Richie the Rally Goat Community Moderator Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 The Twins made room for Hermann by placing Bartlett on the DL for an ankle sprain. Suspicious much?
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 What kind of deal did they make with Bartlett? Why not just cut him?
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 Possibly the end of that experiment.
kydoty Verified Member Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 I could've sworn that you have to be legitimately injured to be on the DL, unlike the NFL where they'll put you on IR for no reason than to make room for somebody else.

jay Provisional Member Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 They saw some sort of value in putting him on the club as the 25th guy. It's hard to see them thinking his value in that role has changed in less than a week, so you can't see them cutting him. Either way, he gets to keep drawing an MLB paycheck... so you can't envision Bartlett complaining about any unspoken arrangement if it does exist.
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 Well there is the very real possibility that Bartlett is and has been in fact injured.... With some of those dives in the outfield it's a distinct possibility.
TKGuy Provisional Member Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 In the NBA its the lower leg contusion... In any event, now Pinto is free to DH further against lefties when Kubel can sit. Hope Aaron has his running shoes on because he has a lot of area to cover.
Hosken Bombo Disco Community Moderator Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 Well there is the very real possibility that Bartlett is and has been in fact injured.... I hadn't heard a single statement from anyone that Bartlett has been injured.
SirLoin Verified Member Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 Can it be the 60-day DL, with a rehab assignment in AA?

As far as I know, there are no independent MLB doctors.
Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 If Bartlett has in fact been injured, this would be similar to the Mastroianni situation at the beginning of last year. The "Bartlett was a mistake, but he deserves a graceful exit" angle makes the Twins look better by comparison.
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 Well there is the very real possibility that Bartlett is and has been in fact injured.... Yup ... I won't doubt it because I don't know ... so, in my book, not suspicious, but have to say it is convenient (not to trivialize the injury in the least)
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 I hadn't heard a single statement from anyone that Bartlett has been injured. Are you sure? That stray knock at the front door may have been Rob Antony bearing the information.
SweetOne69 Verified Member Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 According the the Twins Website Bartlett sprained his ankle sliding home in the 6th inning yesterday.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 I hate it when people get hurt. Good luck to him.
Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 According the the Twins Website Bartlett sprained his ankle sliding home in the 6th inning yesterday. I believe the full quote at the Twins official website is, "Bartlett... sprained his ankle... sliding home in the 6th inning yesterday... yeah, that's the ticket!"
SweetOne69 Verified Member Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 Well that was the inning where Bartlett scored from 1st (after being HBP) on Colabello bases clearing double.
Physics Guy Verified Member Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 And it might be another reason (other than his general lack of proficiency) why Escobar pinch hit for him.
twinscowboysbulls Verified Member Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 Should be interesting to see where we go next. If Willy or Arcia have to hit the DL, I'd expect Mastro to be added to 40 man and called, what do you guys think?
cmathewson Provisional Member Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 With some of those dives in the outfield it's a distinct possibility. I don't know how he changed direction on that ball off the wall without spraining an ankle. Say what you want about misjudging it and getting too close to that wall, but he certainly hustled on that play.

But if needed, I'd say Mastro is the first one up.
notoriousgod71 Verified Member Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 You can't even blame Bartlett for his ineptness because Gardenhire and Ryan/Antony put him in a position where he could not succeed. I'm not sure there is a scenario in which Bartlett would be successful at this point but it definitely is not as a backup to several positions he's never played before.

Did you see the slide?
cmathewson Provisional Member Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 No. I just saw the replays of his plays in the field. The slide makes sense because Gomes was in the way.
