What if the Twins talent level keeps getting better, but their game execution keeps getting worse

The hitters are good, the pitchers are good, everyone is hurt and the team is fading fast. I traveled through time to give you the beat report from June 6th, 2025:   These Twins are hard to figure out. Sure, they lead the league in run differential but something seems to be missing for the club, now 25-35 and one game out of first place in the AL Central after being swept by Cleveland while being outscored by three runs.   “We’re taking good at-bats; we just can’t seem to scr

Twins/Pirates Draft Trade - Chaos

I want to begin by emphasizing the point that there is less than a 0.01% chance of this ever happening, but reading Kiley McDaniel's mock draft the other day and his mention of "chaotic vibe" got me thinking about a scenario that would qualify as "Willi Castro-level chaos". I want to be clear that this is not something I personally would want to see the Twins do. I think the clear and obvious choice should be to draft and develop whatever top 5 talent drops to them. But if that's not someth

My Jorge Lopez story

I've mentioned my Jorge Lopez connection in several threads on this website and figured I would write it out if anyone is interested in reading it. I met the girl who became my wife in 2015, she is from Puerto Rico, lived in Chicago as a young adult and was a White Sox fan. She moved to the lovely state of Kansas in the summer of 2016 and one of our mutual interests was watching baseball. I spent a few months learning as much as I could about the history of Puerto Rican baseball and I gradually

Thoughts from Saturday night in Wichita

The Good: The ballpark was amazing. It had such a nice feel, the people were friendly and the cost of concessions were far less than an MLB game. I think the ballpark fit around 10,000 people and I think the attendance was around 7,000.  Most of the players were no names, but the fans definitely get behind their team. The players I did recognize were Seth Gray, Yunior Severino and obviously Brooks Lee.  One player I hadn't heard of was a young kid from the DR Yoyner Fajardo.

In Wichita to see the Wind Surge

To say the least being a Twins fan from Kansas can be really challenging. I've not been able to experience much of the fandom that the locals get but one nice perk is being able to drive 3 hours and get to see some of the Twins prospects this Saturday as the Wichita Wind Surge host the Arkansas Travelers.

Did these 10 players struggle the most during their Twins career?

ChatGPT 4 is all the rage these days. If you do not know what ChatGPT, ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot developed by OpenAI and released in November 2022. It is built on top of OpenAI's GPT-3.5 and GPT-4 foundational GPT large language models (LLMs) and has been fine-tuned (an approach to transfer learning) for conversational applications using both supervised and reinforcement learning techniques. It can be a lot of fun to ask it questions about the Minnesota Twins. What

Is Alex Kirilloff the Key to Unlocking the Offense?

The Twins' offense this spring has been frustrating and disappointing to this point in the season. Any team with the worst team batting average in MLB wouldn't be satisfied with their hitting, add in an inordinate number of strikeouts and puzzling underperformance from high-priced talent and it figures that players could be booed at home. As compared to when the 2022 season ended, this club is healthy, especially on the position player side. Max Kepler will be out for ten days, Royce Lewis will

Batting Average is the worst offensive statistic in baseball

As a kid, I remember looking at batting average as the key to the value of a player. OK, not every player, as I was a Harmon Killebrew fan, and he never really hit for average. That should have alerted me to the fact that not all base hits are created equal - and those that sail over the fences are far more valuable than a single to center field. There are a lot of people who complain about trading away last year's AL batting champion, Louis Arreaz. That said, while he hits for a very high

Time To Shake Up that Underperforming Lineup?

The current lineup isn't working and hasn't worked for awhile. It's great that Farmer is back but Farmer isn't likely to provide the lineup spark we need. He was 0 for his last 11 with 8 strikeouts before he got hurt. If you look at the lineup/26 man roster realistically, who can be that spark? The only possible answer I see is Gordon - 6 for his last 20 with 2 HRs. Solano can't play defense anywhere on the field so he doesn't have much value if Buxton is the DH. I guess we now know why Solano w

Are we... TOO good?

I have come to the conclusion, as many other have very recently that the Twins are simply TOO good.   Is there another league we could be promoted to? I mean fo rthe fairness of all other MLB teams? Could we petition MLB to allow for a 10th and 11th position in the lineup? Hands have now been officially and sufficiently wrung with regards to how to get even more 1st ballot unanimous HOF players into this already legendary lineup. It was tough enough to find any spot for the histor

Not-So-Lucky Nick Gordon

You probably tuned out of the second half of the 2022 Twins season. Given the team's terribly underwhelming results and the Bally Sports North TV debacle, there were better things to do than watch Twins baseball. While you were enjoying your summer, you missed Nick Gordon carrying the Twins’ offense, drilling line drives as a middle-of-the-order slugger. From July 1 onward, Gordon batted .281 with an OPS that was about 20% better than league average. In a disappointing season, Gordon’s offe

Start supporting each other like a team should!

I'm tired of the inconsistencies and excuses.  This team needs to get it's s*#t together and start playing like a championship caliber team should.  Hitters need to produce offense to support their pitchers.  Pitchers need to win the tough late inning battles.  Defenses need to stop making blundering errors at key moments.  And coaches need to shake things up in the clubhouse and get in players faces.  So much talent on this team, and the rest of the Central Divsion is practically gift wrapping

Twins Offense in April

The Minnesota Twins are off to a similar start to their 2023 season, as their 2022 season. Through 29 games this year, the Twins are 17-12 whereas last year they were 18-11. The pitching for the 2023 staff is much better than it was last year. A rotation of Lopez, Gray, Mahle, Ryan, and Maeda, is far better than Ryan, Gray, Bundy, Archer, and Paddack. So much better in fact, that our opening-day starter last year is now the 4th pitcher in the rotation. This comes off the backs of the 2022 trade

A Successful April

The Twins concluded the first month of the 2023 regular season with a 17-12 record. They stand 3.5 games ahead of Cleveland in the mediocre AL Central Division. What was projected to be a tough April schedule ended up being very manageable. The Twins played seven games against the New York Yankees, winning four, at an ideal time, with the Yankee pitching staff and lineup hamstrung by injuries. They also played the World Champion Astros, winning two of three, while the Astros were in an early sea

Twins April Recap

We have seen one month of Twins baseball, and the team sits at 17-12 (.586) which leads the struggling AL Central by 3.5 games. Though we have seen lots of downs, the positives and flashes of brilliance have far more outweighed the bad. Before they start a six game road trip with two division rivals, let’s take a look at the impressive first month of April.   The Good Starting Pitching The Minnesota Twins, more or less, aren’t known for their pitching. It seems like the Twins

Byron Buxton: No longer a center fielder?

There are few plays in baseball that rival an acrobatic catch from Byron Buxton. Since he debuted with the Twins in 2015, Byron Buxton’s athleticism and prowess in center field have never ceased to impress. Of course, we’re all aware of the downside such fearless play brought too. The violent crashes into the wall and diving plays that have left him hobbled are etched into our memories. The Minnesota Twins organization remembers those downsides as well, and they’ve opted to use Buxton exclusivel

A Deeper Dive after 13 Games

The top line is that the Twins are 9-4 and lead the AL Central by two games. They've outscored their opponents 58-34, the second-best run differential in the American League. 34 runs allowed is second-best in MLB while the 58 runs scored is 17th of 30 teams. Team batting stats are so-so at best--23rd in team BA and OPS, 17th in runs scored, 15 (T) in homers, 20th in walks and seventh (worst) in strikeouts. The pitching stats make up for the poor offense and then some: second in ERA, second in le

On the road again...New York state of mind

21.5 hours. That's how long it takes to drive straight from Mitchell, SD to The Bronx, NY. 21.5 hours. Four games against the Bronx Bombers, the Twins' playoff kryptonite, the &#@%! Yankees. The first road trip through Kansas City and Miami involved a decent 6 hour drive, and a flight to the SE corner of America. Seven nights away from home.  In Kansas City I found the traditional opening day experience. Overpriced tickets, a giant flag, recognizing the whole roster on the fie

Twins take series, win Edouard Julien’s MLB debut

Sonny Gray tossed 5 scoreless innings as the Twins beat the White Sox 3-1 Wednesday to take the three game series 2-1 and cap off a 4-2 homestand.  Gray now has a 0.53 ERA through three starts this season, It appears that he also only went 5 innings today because he is battling an upper respiratory virus. He left with a lead that was never relinquished, earning himself a win. Kind of sweet justice for him after not getting the win in his previous, even better, start because the bullpen couldn’t

Twins talker: Hear about Kirby, Billy Martin and the NY Mob, Gaetti being psychic, Scott Ericksons no hitter from Former MLB Umpire Dale Scott

"I always love Minnesota and the Twins" is what Dale Scott said when I asked him what it was like to umpire Twins games during his career spanning 3,897 MLB games.  Dale has a very unique story, not just from the point of view as an umpire who was on the field for 3 World Series (including the 2001 series), but 3 All Star Games, and 3 no hitters (including Scott Ericksons for the Twins), but also as a human being. You see, Dale was hiding a secret, for his entire 30+ year career as an MLB U

Twins win on Kenta Maeda’s birthday

The Twins came away victorious tonight 3-2 vs. the Chicago White Sox in their first home night game of the 2023 season. The win came on an error on what was supposed to just be a sacrifice bunt by Michael A. Taylor. Instead, the throw from the pitcher hit Taylor on the helmet and went into right field allowing pinch runner  Willi Castro to score on the play. Taylor was given credit for a hit but no RBI as the run scored because of the error.. Pablo Lopez, who struggled in the first inning,
