  1. Like the idea of keeping Jax, Duran and Varland. Then re-sign Coloumbe for another year and the bullpen is set for the next few years. That would make Stewart available for a decent return. With two more years of control, can they get some teams #6-#10 prospect? Not a MLB top 100 prospect, but maybe somewhere in the #200-#300 range?
  2. Nice night for Julien, 3-4 with a walk, double and home run. Sure would be nice if he would be thought to be worthwhile to some GM out there so the Twins could include him in a deal that brings back a nice player for the future. Meanwhile, Miranda continues hitting a buck 95. DeBarge stole his 51st base last night. I don't remember anyone in the organization being close to that in July. Who has the most steals in Twins minor league history?
  3. Loved how Zebby pounded the strike zone last night. Also liked his pace which seemed faster than most. If memory serves, he was a lot like this his first couple times out last year. Question? Was last night a glimpse of what may come next year and beyond?
  4. Great article, thanks. As many above have said, none of this trio would return much in a trade. Will agree with those who believe keeping Martin for another year makes sense. That is unless someone offers something of value in return Should the Twins be looking to trade some of their core, say Duran or Jax, they must be both careful in evaluating the prospects coming back and get a huge return. Why? This article reminds us that many top prospects can end up having zero value a couple years from now. For example, just think about trading Duran for Miranda and Martin?
  5. Congrats to the FCL Twins. This is the first time they have won their division, isn't it? Is there a reason none of the scores are linked to their box scores? Thanks for the report, Matt.
  6. Interesting that you are all in for trading Larnach while keeping Wallner as part of their future plans. We don't know, but it is possible the Twins view Larnach more favorably than Wallner. Wallner is equally bad as Larnach on most of the things you mention. Larnach is getting more hits and has a lot more runs driven in. Wallner has more raw power, but that power hasn't been seen much of this year. Agree with their trading one of the two, provided they can get a reasonable return.
  7. If it is both for two top 100 guys, no way. As for trading one of the two, I expect one of them won't be a Twin 8 days from now. And I am ok with that. Hopefully our FO is smart and gets both a good return (perceived value) and the right return (they both make it and one turns out to be really good). Let the bidding begin! As for which one, I would lean towards Duran. First, he should garner the better return. Second, he is going to be both harder and likely much more expensive to extend at some time over the next 18 months. And third, Varland is ready to step into either the 8th inning set-up or closer role.
  8. Thanks for the update, Seth, on the draft and signings. Had been wondering about that. A quick calculation tells me they have around $25-$50k available and still remain within their draft pool. It's doubtful, at least to me, that the infielder from Hawaii will get signed. Also thought that what I read about the pitcher from SUNY would require their going over budget. See that they did and really glad they got him signed. Thanks again for this information, Seth, and have a great day.
  9. Even with a limited budget, you can develop a team that can be competitive with the big boys. How? Get very good pitching, defense and a lot of speed. Was so impressed when we had that stretch of games a bit ago against the Reds, Brewers and another team I don't remember who. Unfortunately, what impressed was the opponents. What have the Twins done, they have created a team that in the field is the exact opposite. Yes, they have a great center fielder who can run, really run. But the rest of the team is slow, weak defensively and couldn't hit their way out of a paper bag. I remain hopeful that the FO will change and bring in some speed, defense and grit like when we had the piranha's. Like Milwaukee, they have the budget to be both good and exciting. Please make it happen. And for us old guys, hopefully they will do so soon.
  10. Looked at the new catcher's minor league stats. Consistently hit around .300 average with a 20% or so strikeout rate in AAA the last few years. Know nothing about his defense, but seems like a good pickup. Also looked further into Fedko's stats. Saw he was at first base last night and wanted to see if he has been playing there of late. Has had 11 games this year with none the last few years. Seems like moving a kid with power to first base with their glaring void a smart move by the Twins. Got another good smile and shake of my head when I opened the box score for Wichita. Gotta believe Culpepper should be pushing for a spot with the Twins by this time next year, at the latest. Can the Twins open their shortstop job by then or the start of 2027?
  11. Today may be the biggest start of the year for Paddack. Should he pitch like earlier this season with a good start, he may have some value for the Twins over the next week. It is extremely unlikely he will be back next year. Thus, I hope he has a good start, or two, and gets the Twins a nice prospect before the end of the month.
  12. With both Jax and Duran needing extensions a year down the road, the cost to keep both beyond 2027 is probably too high. With Varland becoming another great late inning guy, this might be the time to make hay. Of the two I would trade Duran. Reason is he will likely demand a higher cost come extension time. A second reason is that he would likely also bring the bigger return. No matter who they trade with, the return must include at least TWO very high prospects. And they all can't be somebody's #3 ranked prospect down at hi-A. At least one must be close to big league ready and playing like a future star. Would also be great if the closest to big league ready would be a catcher. In that case, your Dodger deal makes sense, I think. Truth is I know little about Rushing.
  13. I remain hopeful that our boys will get swept by the Dodgers, then drop 2 of 3 to Washington. That will get them to July 27th with four days till the deadline. Maybe then the FO will realize this team ain't gonna make it to the promised land and get serious about making some deals. I would be elated if they at a minimum moved those not returning in 2025. Hopefully, they will get something of value in return. But after thinking about all those past trades that were disasters, I just don't know. But if they aren't trading for established major league pitchers who may be injured, there could be a better result.
  14. Thanks, Seth. Great seeing Keaschall back on the field playing baseball. Loved that he stole two bags and attempted a third. How long do you think it will be before he rejoins the Twins? Hadn't looked at Gonzalez' numbers recently. He has been at Wichita for awhile and it no longer is a small sample. What impressed me the most was 23 walks to 21 K's, which are around 10% of his plate appearances. Let's hope he is that special player the Twins thought he was when that trade was made. Could be big long term win for the front office, HUGE.
  15. Always like him as a player. And from what I have read about all the work he has done helping others, a better person.
  16. Saw mention of EmRod above. Didn't he go back on the IL yesterday or the day before. Bloody shame the Twins can't keep all these potential stars on the field for any length of time. Absolutely loved the photo at the top, Tom. Jenkins is bigger than I expected. Sure would be nice if that trio became the core the Twins could build around for the next decade. And all three can run which would be out of character for the Twins. Personally, would love it.
  17. Expect mid-August for a Lopez return is optimistic, Cody. Considering he will probably need most of a 20 day rehab, early September seems more likely. Will he help should the Twins be real close come Labor Day. You betcha! But much of their chances for making the playoffs falls on Correa's shoulders. He is making over 25% of their total payroll and playing like, well I don't know what to say. Should that continue, they will need everything else to be perfect. On the other hand, should he begin playing like Buxton all would be good.
  18. Thanks, John. My son is a baseball guy who went to Denver U forty years ago to play ball and never left Colorado. Have often asked how the Rockies have really good attendance with seemingly crappy teams year-after-year. His response was simple...tons of people come to games to party more so than watching baseball. Enjoy your weekend.
  19. The FCL Twins are having a wonderful season. Are they in first place, Seth? I know DSL numbers don't often mean much. With five hitters having 800 plus OPS, sure looks good. I know they are all young and several got nice bonuses last winter. How do you feel about this group?
  20. There probably aren't many here that remember a tall pitcher for the Braves back in I don't know, maybe late '50's. They had Gene Conley, who if memory serves was 6'10 or 6'11. All players worked during the offseason back then. His winter job was with the Boston Celtics.
  21. Lowed the first two picks, Jamie. Have a question about Barr. Is he going to be a tough signing? As a juco pick, I am guessing he has at least two years eligibility remaining. At #5, his bonus slot isn't all that big. Love the talent, but am concerned about signability. On the other hand, they didn't pick a high school kid at #11 who would require an overpay. So maybe they have the money to get Barr signed. Eight college pitchers from the final ten picks. Love it. Only problem I see is their taking no catchers. Are they more happy with several of their current catchers in the organization than we fans are?
  22. Thanks Jamie for doing a great job in keeping us informed about this year's draft. What surprised me the most was that all four picks were right around where the pundits had them ranked. If memory serves, that is unusual for the Twins. Loved the first pick when I heard several of the guys on ESPN talking about his being the best defensive player in the draft. I value defense more than most and am of the opinion the Twins need a lot of help. With C4 starting to slow down defensively, hopefully he can get here by mid-2027 at the latest. Agree with the above comments about the two flame throwers. Please Lord, let one of 'em be the real deal. As for Young, expect they are rolling the dice and hoping they don't come up snake eyes. Should be fun seeing what they get today. As also mentioned above, hopefully there will be a catcher, or two coming soon. As for the draft in general, was surprised with both the number of shortstops selected in the first dozen or so picks and the number of high school kids taken in the first round. Was that expected, Jamie?
  23. Loved your lead, Seth, Saturday in the Park. That was Chicago, right? Gotta like how Jenkins is having a solid game followed by another solid game, with a couple big nights mixed in. The good news is that he is playing. Unfortunately, EmRod is out again. Like what I am seeing from Winokur as the summer wears on. Was a bit surprised to see that yesterday's home run was number 12 to go with 47 rbi. Should he end the year with 20 or so home runs and 75-80 rbi, that's a heck of a year considering how young he is. I see the FCL club is winning two-thirds of their games. Am I correct to assume they are in first place? Or not?
  24. Appreciate all you do, Jamie, leading up to the draft. Seeing I know nothing about any of these players, am eagerly awaiting what the Twins actually do tonight and tomorrow. Will then look forward to your in depth analysis of who they actually took. Do have a question, however. With the changes to college athletics these past months/years, will there be changes on how the top high school athletes look at their college options? Yes, most big schools, like the Big 10, won't be giving much or any revenue sharing dollars to baseball. But I suspect some of the better Southern and West Coast schools with the big baseball programs may throw some dollars to the sport, as well as some NIL money. Also, those smaller schools with big baseball programs would be free to find money for their top recruits. My question, have you heard anything or suspect that it will be more difficult to sign some of these college bound kids now that they can make a lot more in college than in the minor leagues, not counting their bonus? Doubt it will affect any of the higher first round guys with the multi million dollar bonuses. But sure could make a difference for those guys picked after round one or two.
