  1. Most everyone is talking about Fedko, but really there is nothing left to say. What I found interesting was that Keirsey had two nice RBI hits after Fedko got on base. See that his numbers are getting much better. Expect he was glad to be with the big club much of the year, but this kid may still be a good player if given a chance for regular at bats. Great seeing Prielipp on the mound in AAA. With the big increase in innings this year it is reasonable to expect him to tire a bit as he gets beyond the first couple innings.
  2. Difficult topic for us to discuss as we really don't know what was going on in that clubhouse. I haven't been a fan of Correa for some time. May have begun with his 'Dior' comments. Others were comments he made that to me sounded like it was all about him. Not the team. Even your comment above, Nick, "I want to build a championship culture in this organization," Correa said back when he first signed with Minnesota, I read as being all about him as he could have said WE need to build a championship culture. Since he arrived we were told he was the team's leader. To me, the team leader has and will continue to be Byron Buxton. Some time I really have wondered what Buxton thought of Correa? As I said, I don't have a clue what was going on in that clubhouse, just that Correa rubbed me wrong from the time he arrived.
  3. Have seen comments that Abel might be another find for the Twins, similar to Joe Ryan. Expect the Twins would be elated should he prove to be another Ryan. Or even Joe Ryan Lite! Know nothing about Smith, other than what you wrote above and that the Twins took him towards the end of the draft. Encouraging that he was a very young third year college player. Still a small sample, but certainly fun to think about what could be. Yes, he is a first baseman only. Does anyone know if he is good defensively at first? Or needs a lot of work?
  4. Interesting whether Jax or Bradley has the most disappointing start with their new teams. Hopefully, comments that Bradley is working on some stuff are true and the reason his couple starts have been disappointing. Another great relief appearance by MacLeod. Do you see him making the Twins and doing well, Seth? This year or next? As a starter or reliever? When I saw DeBarge was 4-4 with two doubles I was thinking he might not have stolen a base. Wrong! With 62 he has tied the most ever for any player in the Twins organization, correct? Was it Knoblach? Thanks for a great report, Seth.
  5. Thanks for a great analysis, Cody. Wasn't that long ago that the Twins catching prospects were, well no one. A year or two of good drafting and development and two trades sure have made a difference. Gotta believe it is now a strength, although the best prospect, the prospect who could make a difference, is still a way away. Thanks again, Cody.
  6. Interesting. And yes, exciting. Don't know if you noticed that Prielipp was promoted to AAA this morning. Doubt he will join the Twins in September, but with the current shape of the pitching staff anything is possible. Must say with all the ads I missed the 2026 ETA and thought you were projecting all those as this year.
  7. Truth is we all are going to have to wait and see what happens this winter and during the next season. The only thing I think I know is that it will be interesting. Or maybe I should have said HOPE it will be interesting. Personally, I expect to see several moves come winter. I don't know what approach they will take with pitching, but as of today they should have a strong starting rotation. Three top starters at the top, three guys (Festa, SWR and Matthews) who will have over a year of big league experience, and three young guns picked up at the deadline, Abel, Bradley and Rojas. That's nine which should give them an excellent starting rotation, depth at St. Paul and one or two who can be moved to the pen or traded. Should they choose to attempt to compete in 2026, that starting staff would be one of the better ones in baseball, assuming reasonable health. The problem this team has had is in the field. Their position players have been a big disappointment with their bats and the defense has been spotty, at best. With Rodon here and several young outfielders expected to compete for positions soon, I see them moving on from one of Larnach or Wallner. I also don't know what to expect from Lewis, who has to be a huge disappointment for the Twins. Does he still have value should they consider moving him? I remain hopeful that they try to bring in a couple bats and relievers this winter and try to compete in 2026. Like all guys my age, we want to see the Twins compete. And soon!
  8. Keep looking at what Fedko did last night and just shake my head. Yes, 11 games is a smallish sample, but Holy Cow! Checked and see that Prielipp has pitched nearly three times as many innings as last year. Those of you who have seen him may know, but is he starting to wear down as the season goes into its last month?
  9. Aren't the A's moving to Vegas? Isn't there a ballpark under construction there?
  10. I am probably among the minority, but I can see good days ahead for the Twins. But for guys my age those days better be soon. I expect most are correct and this is the result of their not getting the number they wanted. Based on what I read here several days ago the debt isn't outside debt as stated above, rather debt related to their investment in Target Field when built and ongoing enhancements to the ballpark. Expect they also took a big hit during the pandemic. But it sure seems that debt was the issue that muddied the waters when trying to sell. Will be interesting to see who these two investor groups are. Have seen mention that the Cambria family may have been interested. Also curious if one of the groups could include several former Twins? If so, hopefully they will be allowed to provide input into the makeup of the team. The FO recently set the team up for a rebuild. Considering what was given up, hopefully most of the key players brought in will be as good as expected. The starting rotation will be strong next spring. And that's a great starting point. Hopefully, the financial re-set will enable them to begin building around that strength and the Twins will be competitive....soon!
  11. Big night on the hill for Twins lefties tonight. Prielipp and Rojas at AA and AAA. Continue to be impressed from what I am seeing from Tait. The kid is still 18 and playing at High-A with some pop in his bat. Expect he needs a lot of work in most aspects of his game, but sure looks like he could be special.
  12. Interesting article, Cody, and great analysis After all the deadline moves, I was thinking about starters for 2026. The Twins currently have a staff headed by three frontline starters, Lopez, Ryan and Ober. Next are three starters who all have starting experience beginning last year, SWR, Festa and Matthews. Add three top arms from deadline moves Abel, Bradley and Rojas who all are close. That gives the Twins nine potential starters in 2026. Of the three currently in the rotation, I have been thinking Zebby would be an ideal candidate for a move to the pen. So many similarities to Varland that I really could see him as the Twins closer by some time next year and pitching as well as Louie was before the trade. As to who is in the 2026 pen, expect one or more of the above will likely be there along with candidates like Ohl and Adams. I would like to throw one more name into the mix, Mike Canterino. The Twins signed him to a two-year minor league contract which gives him time to rehab this year and return to the mound in 2026. Unlikely he would be available out of spring training, but he sure could become an option by say next year's trade deadline. His days of starting are likely behind him, but when pitching he was special and could be another strong candidate for a late inning role.
  13. I don't know what type of power Houston will, or will not develop. There is a chance, and in his case a real chance, that he could become a star player even if he doesn't develop that power. Shortstop is one of, if not the most important position defensively on the field. If he is as good with his glove as they say, he could be that special player who becomes a star with an average bat or good bat with minimal power. Was a long time ago, but I don't remember Ozzie Smith hitting many home runs. Yet he was a star, a real star. Is he in the Hall, or didn't he make it? Anyway, a shortstop who is one of the league's best doesn't have to hit all that much to be invaluable to any team. But then I value defense and speed much more than a lot of folks.
  14. Thanks for the report, Seth. And how bout them Twins? See that DeBarge got two steals last night. What is it, four more for the organizational record? What I found more interesting was the Winokur got his 22nd. Didn't realize he had that type of speed? Always interested in Carpenter's starts. Wasn't his best, but 4 hits, a walk, 5 K's and one earned run in 4 innings is solid. Enjoy your weekend!!
  15. Don't often disagree Dman. But my frustration is with everyone talking about power, power, power. I don't disagree that power isn't important. It is. And much of what you say above is true. But there is more to winning games than just power. Let's not write off players just because they aren't a power guy. A winning team needs some of both. Otherwise you have a team of Wallner like players. It wasn't long ago that he had something like 12 home runs and what was it, 19 rbi? Yes power is important. And some fast players get a lot of doubles because they stretch that single. Or they get a single and steal second. Just think about DeBarge. How many of his singles became doubles one or two pitches later? Yes, power is important. But it isn't the only thing. At least for me.
  16. Why does everyone have to talk about power, or lack thereof, for most players. The Twins just drafted what was reported to be the best defensive shortstop in the draft. He begins play in A-ball and proceeds to hit well over .300 average. Add he also has reasonable speed. The Twins should be ecstatic if that is who he would be when he reaches the majors. I know I sure would. Question. Does steal #57 give DeBarge the most steals of any Twins minor leaguer, ever? And there is what, about a month of season remaining?
  17. Is it possible this team is playing better since the deadline than before? I don't think Detroit is all that good. Granted we didn't face Skubal, but that team sure didn't look like a team who could do anything in the playoffs. Not saying that I expect this team to go on a run and make the playoffs, like Detroit did last year. But the last few games were a lot of fun to watch. Heck, the two losses in Cleveland were one run games that could have gone the Twins way with a couple small changes. If Buxton is back in a few days and playing like he did before the injury. That's one more bat that can make a difference. And love the way some of these new guys are running.
  18. Speaking of Keaschall, does he remind anyone else of Bobby Witt. His size, build, hair, speed, clutch hitting all reminds me of someone I consider one of the top five players in the game. Will he ever be close to as good as Witt, probably not. But who knows?
  19. Add me to those with overflowing excitement regarding Jenkins and Culpepper. Also see that Mendez had another nice night as well. Great seeing the start Houston is having with his bat considering he is a glove first guy. Have been pleased with how Lee looks at shortstop but would love to see a decade of one of the best in the game at short for the Twins.
  20. Thought this comment is another time for me to explain my use of the smiling guy. I really don't know what that is intended to mean. In my case, I use it when I get a good smile from the comment. Thanks jm for giving me that smile this morning.
  21. After missing almost all of the first two months of the season, it was reasonable to expect Jenkins to have a slow start when he returned. And that he did. But he sure has been the player we all hoped for the last month plus. Including that start, his average went above .300 yesterday with a +.400 OBP and +.900 OPS. Those are fantastic results which I hope will continue to climb as the season winds down. As great as Jenkins has been, Culpepper has been getting even better results since moving up to Wichita. Amazing season. Also interesting, at least to me, that he played third base yesterday.
  22. Understand your position Doc. Expect the Twins will give him a lot of at bats the next month. And if he continues as is, hopefully, his playing time will lessen and he will be gone come winter. At least that's what I think the front office should be considering. What I would be doing is leaving him in St. Paul before moving on come December. Would much rather see Martin at second when Buxton returns this week. Hopefully, Martin won't be on the bench with Julien at second every night.
  23. That building was still Central High School when my wife and I were wandering around the UW campus.
