  1. Everyone keeps thinking the Pohlads are still in the banking business. They haven't been for some time. So yes, they are borrowing money from whatever banks they deal with. We also don't know how said banks consider a baseball team as a credit risk. Or the Pohlad's for that matter. With interest rates being very high for the past several years, yes, an interest rate approaching 10% could be possible. But I showed a range, roughly 6% to 10% as none of us know that the actual rate is. And paying 10% or above is not 'money laundering.' I am very much aware of the rates one of the best restaurant companies in America is paying on their loans, and that's over 10%. And I am somewhat disappointed how you jumped on my comment, which was intended to point out that a good chunk of the loss would go away when/if the debt was paid off by the new investors, by not considering that I used a wide range of interest rates in my $30M to $50M guess.
  2. Perhaps the most important fact regarding this happening, Nick, is that there is a high likelihood that baseball will not be played in much of 2027, if at all. So tearing this down and setting the team up for success in 2028 and beyond kind of makes sense. As stated above I see Larnach as the most likely to be moved. Agree with all your expectations, Nick, with the exception that Buxton just may stick with the team thru this mess. Hopefully, the Twins will get some very good young talent back from these deals. As for this year's selloff, contrary to a lot of the comments of late we won't know for another year or two how good the returns actually were. Personally, I am hopeful.
  3. You have to take the interest on that debt into consideration, DJL. Assuming it is actually $500M, the interest would be in the +$30M to <$50M range. So its possible nearly half of the loss would be wiped out by retiring the debt, which allegedly will be done by bringing in the two partners.
  4. Gotta agree, Doc. All of the best prospects who are close are corner outfielders. For that reason, I see Larnach as a definite trade with Wallner also a possibility. Personally, I would be ok with both leaving. That's assuming they get something reasonable back, most likely prospects at Hi-A or AA.
  5. Thought today was a good day for my occasional disclaimer. My use of the laughing face isn't my saying ha ha or laughing at the comment. I use it when I read a comment and get a good smile. Adding the smiley face is my way of saying thanks for bringing that smile to me.
  6. Interesting. My preference would be Martin but can't argue with your report. Any comment about Varland reminds us of the one trade that really hurt. At least it does for me. Have to believe the FO hadn't considered trading Varland when Toronto made an offer they couldn't refuse. Hopefully, they know enough about the Roden and Rojas and they end up being right. I guess time will tell.
  7. I could not agree more, MLB. What a wonderful reasonable comment. Thanks!
  8. Finished reading this piece, John, and was flat out disappointed. Was going to comment, but that was before reading Rufus' comment above. Fantastic response, Rufus. Also appreciated Nashville's comment and others like DJL who referred to the idea that what you do with said $$$ is as important as how many dollars a team spends.
  9. Thanks for posting this, Cody. There actually were two separate articles in this morning's Strib. What may be most interesting is that both were in the Business section and written by Business reporters. Thought both articles brought us more insight into what has been happening the past year. Also believe they deliver some hope that things may be better sooner than many fear. At least that was my take on it.
  10. As for the above comments about keeping him away from the Twins hitting coaches. I remain hopeful that the Twins will have an entire new coaching staff next year. Personally, would like to see Watkins return, just not as third base coach.
  11. Had an interesting thought while reading the comments. Maybe someone at TD could do a piece about it. Was wondering what percentage of players chosen in the first round actually make it. And maybe even break that down to separate discussions of high school kids or college 21 year-old picks. Would think that making it also needs some examination. Maybe broken down to being in the major leagues more than 2 or 3 years, being a starter and a third classification could be being chosen as an all-star. When talking about Twins picks never making it, have a feeling that is not all that uncommon. Especially when choosing high school kids. Gotta agree however, the Twins have chosen some real clunkers over the years. Seth may remember the name of that big first baseman they took some years ago, Henry something. He lasted what, three years in the minors? Then there was the rapidly rising shortstop from SoCal maybe what, six or seven years ago? And who was the outfielder, I believe from Washington State, taken high a few years before Morneau?
  12. You gave us a stat for AA players under 25. Isn't he 21? Expect that could make a difference in any comparison. Perhaps, HUGE!
  13. Interesting comment Riverbrian. It probably does make sense that there be one person in charge. And the owners chose Falvey. The question we probably should be asking is how is he doing in that role? Just as you mentioned about marketing, etc., has Falvey hired or promoted qualified people into senior management positions? Has he given them the opportunity to manage their departments without excessive interference by him? As for the team on the field, that person should be Jeremy Zoll. Is Zoll making the decisions regarding the team that is on the field? Or is he an errand boy for Falvey? Sure seems that he is an errand boy and that is the problem.
  14. Thank you for pointing out that the Twins had as much or more player payroll than several similar teams in the upper Midwest and most have performed better. Would be great to see TD writers and the sports writers in the Twin Cities pivot to focus on what the Twins have been doing with said money. Why are other teams getting more bang for their bucks? Great comment in Reussie's column in the Strib this morning. He was at the Twins press conference and after 20 minutes or so of Falvey talking he asked Zoll a question. The reason he said was that he felt badly for Zoll sitting there for that long and not being included in the conversation. Comment gave me a good smile over my coffee. Also found it interesting..
  15. I wish there was something stronger than saying I "love" your comment. Couldn't agree more.
  16. Trevor Plouffe apparently made two suggestions yesterday, Hunter and Justin Morneau. Expect it will be likely that the manager chosen is none of the above. Also likely many, or most, of us here will be disappointed by their choice. As for the suggestion above that it be TK, I for one would love to see whomever it is brings back the principals with which he managed.
  17. Which team had the largest payroll this year, the Twins, Guardians, Detroit, Kansas City or Milwaukee Brewers?
  18. Thanks for doing these this year, Nick. They are appreciated, a lot. Add me to those who are both excited and intrigued by this past week's starting pitching. Is it for real? Can these kids, and Ober, maintain this into next year? Their four veteran starting pitchers, yes, I include SWR in this group, are capable of being as good as most of the good teams. Four young starters, plus Prielipp and Rojas a bit further away, provide more than adequate depth for the season. Seems to me that they not only might trade one of their front-end starters, Lopez or Ryan, but it is the smart move. The key will be getting a return that not only includes a top young prospect, but also a younger very good late inning reliever. Should they do that, moving either top of the rotation starter can help the team actually compete next year and beyond. Personally, I hope they keep Lopez even though his salary will be more than double Ryan's. Most important, however, is they maintain a good line of communication with Buxton all winter long so he understands what they are doing and is on board with their plan.
  19. Great seeing Prielipp get thru the entire season, pitch over 100 innings and get the Twins MiLB Pitcher of the Year. His numbers were very good. But I was wondering. Considering his few innings over the past X years he often tired as he got to the third or fourth innings. Expect his stats would have been off the charts had the last inning in each outing not been included. As he builds his arm strength, expect he could/will be special come 2026 and beyong.
  20. Going to be an interesting question, Nick, one that won't be answered until spring training. We just don't know what the Twins plans will be until then. As for who I expect the Twins will trade for one late inning reliever and sign a couple free agents. Hopefully, one is capable of being a late inning guy. Of those you mentioned, I see Matthews as being their next Varland. And Festa reminds me a bit of Jax from a few years ago. Don't know if it is a pipedream, but those two could prove to be solid. Or better.
  21. Thanks, Seth. Found it interesting that the top two were both low picks from the 2021 draft. Would be exciting to see low picks like this duo spend four to five years working their way up the ladder before enjoying success on the big stage. We all know that the Twins will need to bring in at least four top relievers from outside the organizaiton if they are to compete in 2026. Can see both of these young men as part of the competition for those last four spots coming from within.
  22. Thanks, Cody. With this group there is real hope that the Twins can have two or three young outfielders doing very well in a year or two. May the Baseball God's please let that happen. Don't know what to make of Rosario. Have liked the kid since he was drafted in that weird season. Loved what he did in the AFL a couple years ago and his hitting this year. But with GG, Jenkins, EmRod and others, don't see a place for him with the Twins. My question would be whether he has enough value to be included in a trade to bring back a very good reliever this winter?
