Twins 4, Rangers 1: The Piranhas Strike Again
rdehring replied to Eric Blonigen's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Love how the Twins have been running and putting pressure on the other team since the deadline. My question is, why didn't Rocco have his team doing this for his first 6+ years? And more important, will it continue in 2026? -
Not sure I want to thank you, or not, for reminding me of that game/inning. The same for Patzky above about the Dodgers game and that ump. The good news I guess is that in 2026 the players will be able to challenge those bad calls, assuming they haven't used their two challenges. I guess a good word is that I found the article interesting, Cody. On the other hand, I choose to anticipate the moves the FO should be making this winter, spring training, 2026, and the arrival of a couple potential super stars.
-
Lots of problems with your roster, Cody. First, you have no backup at short or third. None. Nada. Second, no mention of Zebby Matthews, who has been a regular starter for the Twins late this season. Now personally, I think he may be best suited for a move to short relief. But he is missing in action. Third, I don't see the Twins non-tendering Larnach. Although it seems many here at TD have zero respect for the young man, he has been one of their better hitters this year. Will agree that he may be the most likely to leave, but he should bring back something in a trade. Maybe he and a pitching prospect are moved for a decent late inning bullpen guy. And there is no way they don't bring in some bullpen help. I expect them to sign at least two relievers, one good late inning guy and another like Columbe this year. They should also trade for another and likely convert a starter to a relief role. I doubt that starter moving to the pen is going to be Prielipp, who just may be their best pitching prospect not already pitching for the Twins. Also, likely they sign several AAAA guys with some big-league experience, much like they have done in the past.

Thank you Seth and to all the writers at TD. In a year that turned too far South, way too early, your reports have been so important. Good seeing Jenkins getting another double yesterday. I really believe this guy is special and will have an impact for the Twins next year. Along with all the young players on the current Twins who should improve next year, there is hope for 2026. Thanks again and also thank you to all those who comment.

Thanks Nick for an excellent look at what could be. If even a couple of these happen, we could enjoy 2026.

I don't know if today is your last day of duty this year, Seth. But if it is, wanted to say thank you my friend. Thanks for a long summer of information about the teams many of us came to care most about. Great seeing Jenkins playing after missing a couple games. Seems like the player we saw yesterday is who this young man is. Will second those comments for EmRod. Hopefully, he can be healthy next spring so the Twins can see what he can do for them. Question, I see the Berrios pitching against the Saints yesterday is from Puerto Rico. Any relation to Jose?

The Twins acquired Duran in a trade. My comment was specifically about players signed by the Twins who later played with the Twins. Patrick mentioned Fernando Romero and there may have been a few others with a cup of coffee. My point was that I cannot remember anyone who became an established Twins pitcher who they signed as a young kid from the International signing periods.

Not really because he was a high draft pick. My comments were related to International signings who for as hard as I try I can't think of anyone.

Thanks Seth. Haven't followed the rookie leagues like I used to, thus, really appreciate your end of the season discussion about who we should be watching going forward. Hope like heck one of these young pitchers makes it to the Twins. And is good when he gets here. Keep taxing my brain but I cannot come up with any International pitcher the Twins signed and developed who actually made it to the Twins. Much less was good when he got here. Considering how many good Latin pitchers are in the league, that is a huge failure of the Twins organization. Is there someone I am missing?

Thanks, Seth for this report, although I am getting to it a bit late. What impressed me the most was that they spent real dollars, although not huge dollars, to sign a boat load of decent prospects. Is there a Luis Arraez in this bunch. Won't know for probably 6 or 7 years, which is well past the shelf life of many of us here. But with this number of good prospects there is a real chance. But thanks again, I loved it.

Curious, Seth, why we haven't seen Jenkins in the Saints lineup the last few games? Has he been playing thru a minor injury? Mentioned yesterday, but wanted to say thank you to you personally for all you do for us farm club fans. It has become the highlight of our day since the end of July. Thanks!

What surprised me the last two nights was how long Rocco stayed with Zebby and Taj. Don't recall him letting pitchers stay in games through several big innings. Announcers kept saying he was allowing them to battle thru and learn from it. Was that it? And does that make sense? Cannot tell you how pleasantly surprised I have been with Martin's play the last few weeks. Both his bat and defense have improved to the point that you look forward to him being in one of the top two lineup spots. Expect he will get better defensively if the Twins let him stay in the outfield and concentrate on left and center fields. Looking at his stats in this morning's paper I noticed that he has had 9 (of 12) stolen bases in 147 plate appearances. Take that out to a full year of say 500+ plate appearances, he would steal over 30 bags. We always thought he should be able to steal a lot of bases. Is good seeing that happen. Now if he can only eliminate most of his base running mistakes, he will be a huge asset for the Twins come 2026.

Don't know what to think about EmRod. Want to believe he will report to spring training, play very well and win a job with the Twins. On either opening day or soon thereafter. But every spring we get all excited about him, then forget he exists as he is missing from his team's lineup for weeks or months. Personally, I question the people doing their national Top 100 lists that include him because he seems to never be on the field. On the other hand, I pray the Twins will finally find some luck and this young man will put his injury problems behind him and play 140-150 games in 2026, most with the Twins.

Interesting. Don't recall if Dominguez was one of the bigger signees a year ago, was he? Or was he signed in 2023? Clicked on his name and see he is 18+ and from Mexico, which was a bit of a surprise.

Thanks Steve, and all you guys as TD for keeping us informed on the Twins farm teams this year. You cannot know how much it is appreciated. Got a feeling it is going to be an interesting winter for the Twins front office. Don't have a clue which way they will go. Whatever way it is I hope they go all in, either total rebuild or spend a few bucks and make some smart moves to get back into the hunt in 2026. Thanks again to all of you at TD.

One of the best posts I have read in a long time. Couldn't agree more with everything you have said. And Cody threw me a curveball. By the title I thought the article would be about three of the players the Twins picked up at the trade deadline. Wasn't that, but was an excellent post Cody. Add me to those who want to see Martin work very hard on outfield defense this winter. With his athleticism and speed, he should be a solid outfielder. Or better.

Twins 7, Yankees 0: Signature Simeon Woods Richardson
rdehring replied to Nate Palmer's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Fantastic start by SWR, certainly the best of his career. Should they keep their top three starters for next year, they will have the starting pitching needed to compete for the post-season. With five young starters battling for the #4 and #5 spots, they should have the depth that will allow them to either trade one or move one to the bullpen. They also have the two with perhaps the highest ceilings, Rojas and Prielipp, on track to join the team by late summer. On the other hand, should SWR pitch like last night his last two times out, will that encourage the FO to consider trading either Pablo or Ryan? Either should bring back both a top reliever and a top prospect as well as freeing up some cash to spend in free agency on another reliever or position of need. Will they feel they still have a playoff caliber starting rotation without Ryan or Lopez?- 29 replies

Great game to end a great season for GG. Also great seeing Jenkins with another home run to end his season. And for a third great, or is it fifth, it's great seeing EmRod playing baseball. Now if the newish ownership group and the FO can have a 'great' winter, we will all have a great spring!

Will second the above comment about Prielipp. After only 30 some innings total in professional ball, he is pitching in September. The box score wasn't great, Seth, but I appreciate your explanation that showed he was fantastic other than a short stretch in the fourth inning. Don't know what the future holds for this young man, but am excited he will be pitching at Target Field come 2026. He along with a few others currently in AA and AAA just might be that extra something the Twins need to be competitive in 2026. Also liked what Jenkins has been doing the past few games as he settles into an every day role at AAA. Looked a bit deeper at what Mendez has done prior to joining the Twins last month. See that he is having his best year since rookie ball as a 21 year-old at AA. Gotta believe he has a nice future with the big club. Lets hope for the best for both the Wind Surge and Kernels today. Found it interesting that both starting pitchers joined the Twins at the trading deadline.

Great seeing Houston have a game like last night. If his defense is as good as advertised, he just needs to hit a little to be a valuable part of the Twins future. And thanks to all of the above comments from you all who are watching the games. They are appreciated. Can the Kernels bring back another championship? Please!

If you follow my comments here since Wallner arrived, you will know that I have a problem with the Twins playing Wallner anywhere other than DH. Not a huge fan of Larnach out there either, but would rather see him in the field than Wallner. Yes, a lot of you have responded negatively to my Wallner comments, but I like to see outfielders that can get to most balls, like Kepler could before he also got old.

Haven't seen the Twins live this year. My wife and I are old, don't want to deal with the hassles or cost, and she has no interest in crossing the Minneapolis city line other than on I-94 going towards Wisconsin. Have watched most of the games. Being old, I don't understand most of the data you all talk about all day. Yes, Buxton appears to play a bit more careful in an attempt to stay healthy. But any data that says Buxton is one of the four worst center fielders in the league is just plain hog wash. At least in my opinion.
