  1. Interesting start to the season. Cedar Rapids and the Saints were the two teams that were thought to be loaded. The two had all of the TD top 10 prospects. Approaching the end of April, they are the two that are under .500. Go figure? Don't know where Ft. Myers would be without Pena? The kid has to be in the discussion for hitter of the day, every day.
  2. That Mendez kid keeps crushing the ball. Like that the Twins have him playing some first base. Would seem that might be his fastest track to Target Field.
  3. No question $3.9B is an interesting number. But none of us know anything about the motivation of the buyer. There is another comparison you got partially into. San Diego has the Padres, while the Twin Cities have four major sports plus other summer competition, such as the Lynx. My sister-in-law and husband had season tickets to the Dodgers for probably 15 years before retiring outside of L.A. She often commented that Dodger games were always sold out in part because of the large L.A. Hispanic population that is nuts for baseball. I don't know what percentage of San Diego is Hispanic, but it's gotta be much larger than the Twin Cities. Yes, the Twins could have been managed better over the past 5+ years. But payroll isn't the only reason the Padres are worth more. Unfortunately, it seems it is to too many writers here at TD.
  4. Got a good smile from your lead, Seth. Thanks! Loved Houston and Tait both going 2-4 with a walk and a bunch of rbi and runs. But what caught my eye was Houston's stolen base. Is great seeing he has reasonable running ability to go with his world class defense. Ross needs to move up in the next few weeks or month. That would open a spot for Houston in Wichita. But that means Culpepper needs to make his move to allow those moves to happen.
  5. Thanks Seth, that comment gave me a good smile. You have to remember that some of us old fahrts don't have Twitter (is that what it is still called?), or any other social media stuff. Heck, I'm still trying to learn how to take a picture with that new I-phone I have now had for three years. Or is it four?
  6. Looking forward to tomorrow's report to see how Ellwanger does. After watching him on Twins tv in the prospects game versus the Phillies, cannot be more impressed with this young man. As for last night, biggest smile for me was when I saw Houston having another very good night at bat and on the bases. Hopefully, he will move up to AA by July. If he can continue hitting close to what he has, he could find himself with the Twins by summer, 2027. That's assuming his D is as special as people say as I have never seen him play other than a few chances in the prospects game.
  7. Don't recall which of the games in Toronto, but Buxton, Martin and Keashall led off the game with pressure on the Jays. Don't recall if that was the game they got three in the first, but loved what this threesome can do. Or was that game against Detroit? Anyway, I loved it. Add me to those who are eager to see Martin begin playing more, especially against right-handed pitchers. I also am from the camp who want to see Martin playing with the Twins for the next 5+ years. There aren't a lot of guys on this team I can say that about.
  8. Recall seeing Ellwanger in the prospects game versus the Phillies. Thought he was impressive, very impressive. Didn't see the game, but last night appeared to be another impressive game. Would love to see him move up to Cedar Rapids to see how he does at a higher level. Think that will happen soon? I know a lot of people commented in the past whenever discussing DeBarge that the catchers in High-A don't necessarily have great arms. Sure seems to be off and running now in AA. The catchers at this level may not be Johnny Bench, but have to believe their arms are better than High-A. Aren't they, Seth? Loved the Twins game the other night when they had Buxton, Martin and Keaschall at the top of their lineup. That speed made a difference and is the most speed I recall the Twins having in a long, long time. Crossing my fingers that DeBarge could be a fourth pair of legs joining that group next year.
  9. As we saw last night, the bullpen needs help. A lot of it. When Festa returns, could he become the next Jax?
  10. The most joyful moment I have had this year was watching Buxton's triple the other day. Whether it is in center field or running the bases, the man is a joy to watch. I for one, hope he remains with the Twins for his entire career. When Luke Keaschall has his ten-year moment with the Twins, he might refer to what Buxton meant to him prior to Buxton's retirement a few years earlier. Yes, I hope we continue seeing Buxton playing with the Twins for at least another six or seven years. That pair will bring so much joy to all Twins fans. Hopefully, one of the current group of young outfielders will be as special to make it a threesome. Add a few other solid players, some real good pitching and a great manager and they just might enjoy a championship right here at Target Field.
  11. Isn't it great seeing Keaschall begin hitting like everyone expected. Love this kid. When Buxton motioned to the bench and walked off the field, I feared the worst. So happy he missed only one game. What has been most surprising is the bullpen that is getting decent results. Total surprise after all our super relievers left the organization last July. How long will it continue? Add me to the list of those who want to see Roden up and Outman out, asap.
  12. Guessing you thought hard about Moring being the Pitcher of the Day. Did a double take when reading the Strib earlier as I didn't have a clue who he was. Nice professional debut. Any word on how long Buxton is expected to be out? If its around 10 days, will be interesting who gets the call from St. Paul?
  13. Found your comments about Ross's defense interesting, Seth. Very interesting. Curious how he would compare to Houston, who some have called one of the best shortstops in minor league ball? Also surprised you included AJ. Didn't know his D at short was that special. What an odd start to the season for DeBarge. Wins the minor league gold glove, then commits a throwing error in his first game. I think he led the minors in stolen bases last year, then gets caught on his first attempt. I know he set the Twins organizational record, did he also lead all of minor league ball?
  14. Have said all spring that if this is the start of the Twins rebuilding into a competitive team, one of Abel or Bradley must take that last step into becoming someone comparable to Ryan. A legit Ace or very good #2. Don't know which, if either will take that step, but Bradley has looked awfully good in his first one-and-a half starts.
  15. Any more information on Soto's injury? What is it? Any idea when he is expected back? Although I hope neither Soto nor Hill is on this team come season's end, that would be one heck of a pair to start the playoffs with. Maybe they will get to do that in Wichita? As mentioned above, I think Winokur will spend more time in the outfield than as an infielder. The five I will be most interested checking on in every morning's box score are: Hill, Soto, Tait, Winokur and Houston. With a bit of luck, we could see all five of them at Target Field a couple years from now
  16. Will be interesting how Wichita does this year. Not a lot of top prospects on that team. On the other hand, Cedar Rapids looks a lot like the Saints, loaded. Recall that a 2025 draft pick, Ellwanger, pitched very well in the prospect game a few weeks ago against the Phillies. Don't see him on any roster. Does anyone know where he is headed? Also, when does the FCL begin play?
  17. Thanks for another report, Seth. Should Roden keep hitting like his first few games, when will the Twins be forced to bring him up? A couple weeks? Early May? Later? Will Culpepper be joining him? Love this Saints team. Love'em!
  18. So good to have you back for the start of another season. Welcome back Seth. And all of TD. After a couple early walks, Prielipp seemed like the pitcher we hope he will be for the Twins. If we can believe gameday, ball four on his first walk was strike three. And three of the four balls on the second walk were strikes. Seeing how little contact they made, his stuff has to be just plain filthy. Both Culpepper and Roden had fantastic first games. Expect they want the Twins to take notice of their intent on playing at Target Field. And soon. The Strib said the game was on Twins.TV. Unfortunately, it wasn't, so followed along on game day. Didn't realize it was in the low 40's, which can affect how they handle the pitchers. Several AAAA relievers had nice nights. Will one of them work his way into being this year's pleasant surprise? TD should have some type of pool projecting how soon these six young guys will arrive at Target Field? Can't be too soon for me.
  19. Don't know if the Saints would win a three-game series against the Twins. Maybe? But they sure as heck are going to be more interesting to watch this spring. Great seeing that TwinsTV will carry the game tonight. Does anyone know if some of their games will be carried on that over the air station that had games last year?
  20. Thanks for a great message as opening day is upon us. Like most of you, this can be an exciting season if the Twins get at least a half dozen of these prospects playing at Target Field by August 1 at the latest. The most enjoyable game I watched this spring was the prospects game against the Phillies last week. Surprised TD didn't have more coverage of that game as there were several players to be excited about.
  21. Interesting article, Nick. Also very sad. Don't have a clue what the new GM plans on doing about this situation, if anything. As you stated they did nothing over the winter to improve their D. Matter of fact, it probably got worse. The only point I will disagree with is labeling Keaschall as poor defensively. With all his missed time the past three years and playing with a recovering arm, I will give him the benefit of the doubt. Hopefully, he worked hard this winter and will be at least average at second base. Did those of you who went to spring training see any improvement from him?
  22. Question MLR? Who has the better lineup, the Twins or Saints?
  23. Here we go again, another article about a prospect talking mostly about power. Had he gone to UNC, or wherever he was headed, he would be playing college ball this spring before being a top draft pick. Let's give the kid a few years to develop into whatever type hitter he is destined to be. I for one will be enjoying watching him play for the Twins. Beginning?
