  1. Thanks to another rain delay saw most of Abel's start. I doubt he could have been any better. What impressed me the most was no, nada, zip walks and all those first pitch strikes. After spring training was hopeful he could be the guy to step up and join Lopez and Ryan at the top of the rotation. Although last night was in AAA, sure looks like that guy.
  2. Don't disagree with anything you and others are saying. It seemed Detroit's pitcher last night was also having problems, although not as obvious as Bradley. Gotta believe the wet field and humidity was making it difficult to grip the ball.
  3. Like what the Twins are doing during rain delays. Enjoyed watching the first X innings of the Saints game in Toledo. Unfortunately, other than Culpepper there wasn't a lot to like about the Saints last night. KC sure looks like the complete ballplayer that does everything very well. Gotta believe we will see him with the Twins, soon. Like many, have a couple questions about Diaw. Is he a legitimate catching prospect? Or is he more of a utility guy who can be very valuable being able to be that third catcher? Do those of you who have seen him play believe he can be a solid big-league player? Seems like an unusual prospect seeing there aren't a lot of catchers with the speed to play center field.
  4. Great article, Cody, thanks. It's easy to get excited about a young man with his tools, potentially all five of them. As I read this, I kept wondering, "what if he had gone to college and was in this year's draft?" His college career may have been special. Fun to dream about how high he would be drafted come July.
  5. Like many of you, I thought the Twins made a great pick when Marco Raya was drafted during that crazy Covid year. Continued to be a big fan year after year as his performance was for the most part disappointing as he moved up to higher levels. He now finds himself one step away in AAA. I don't want to compare him to the average age in AAA because I expect many older players drags the average higher. In any case, 23 is still young for a prospect one step away. After reading the article and above comments, took a look at his splits this season. He was absolutely terrible in April (11.68 ERA) before having an ok May (4.08 ERA). It is only two games and 3+ innings, however, he has been unhittable in June. Should he keep pitching anywhere near as well as the last couple games, he just may have earned a callup come early July. In a year when the Twins must build their entire bullpen, Raya certainly has an excellent opportunity. Hopefully, he meets that challenge. Speaking of relievers. Does anyone have any information on where Matt Canterino is in his attempt to return to the mound?
  6. Spent several days, maybe 45 years ago, in Wichita looking for a site to build one of our properties on. Being from Wisconsin at the time I recall the liquor laws were shall we say interesting. Overall, liked the city.
  7. Looking at yesterday's Wichita lineup, four of the starters were hitting under a .200 average. Another four were between .200 and .211, with the top at .233. Ouch! Found your discussion, Seth, of the name change at Wichita to be interesting. Or maybe puzzling is a better word.
  8. After a nagging injury and a few quiet games with his bat, appears Houston is back hitting like we hoped. Agree with bean and others that it is time he gets promoted. Great seeing Quick with another very solid start. Appears we have another Rojas to begin watching down with the FCL Twins. The DSL Twins have only played a few games so looking at player stats is meaningless, but Holy Cow, 21 runs!
  9. Am surprised he is coming back this soon. But none of us, or the Twins, expected he would be hitting like he has over in St. Paul. Could the injury limiting Buxton's availability the next X number of games be a reason he's back so soon? Considering Outman can play center, unlikely. Will agree with the above comments that it is going to be interesting seeing who is playing where the next couple weeks, or longer. Lord, please let this young man finally be the player we all know he can be.
  10. Forgot about him as he wasn't here all that long. Don't follow those hated Dodgers. Is he doing well for them?
  11. Question Seth. It seems there are several really good International pitching prospects in the DSL, with the FCL Twins and even the Mighty Mussels. Is this an accurate observation? I can't remember the last International free agent pitcher signed by the Twins to even make the Twins; much less be good. Is this correct? Or is my old memory failing me?
  12. So exciting to see Soto, on a mound and pitching. He and Hill have so much potential. Wouldn't it be fantastic should both be anchoring the Twins rotation, say in 2029. Were the FCL and DSL Twins idle yesterday?
  13. As I read this Martin crashed into the right field wall and is being checked out by the trainer. Looks like he is going to stay in the game, maybe? Twins sure don't need any more injuries.
  14. Although it has only been a handful of games great seeing Jiminez off to a fantastic return, even if it is at Low-A ball. Two of the Twins top prospects are doing very well at Cedar Rapids. Winokur has all the tools and is hitting very well after a slow start, very slow. Houston is often referred to as one of, if not the best shortstop in minor league ball. He continues to hit very well. Houston can be a huge part of future Twins teams if he even hits a little. Should he continue hitting like he has, he will be a star. Today's question is when either or both will be heading down I-35 to Wichita?
  15. I see Hernandez is 19 and from the D.R. Also see he swiped 36 bags two years ago in the DSL. But this year he has been on base 10 times and has 10 stolen bases. We need to know more about this kid, Seth, a lot more.
  16. This injury may be a blessing for he and the Twins long term. Assuming he gets back on the field by mid-summer, there won't be any pressure to call him up later this year. That means he can stay off the 40-man and be playing for the Saints next spring when all the big leaguers are sitting at home.
  17. Gotta agree with you Mike. Yet, they keep running him out there at shortstop some of the time.
  18. Seems like an easy situation for management. Talk to Joe in July with the intent to sign him to an extension. If he and his agent say no, or their demands are unrealistic the Twins need to attempt to trade him before the deadline. But only trade him if they get an excellent return, including a player or two who are ready to join the big club. If they don't get that return, try again this winter at either an extension or trade. Unfortunately, as mentioned above no one knows what will be happening this winter so a real decision is best made come July.
  19. Was also going to comment on Winokur. Gotta believe he will be heading down to Wichita later this summer. And he is only 21. Should he continue hitting, he would arrive in St. Paul next summer as a 22-year-old with the potential to be a late season callup. Question remains whether he will be a shortstop or outfielder when he arrives at Target Field. Looking forward to seeing Hill on the hill for the Kernels tonight.
  20. Great comment, Tony. But must disagree with two words. I would replace "after the" season, with "later this" season. Twins have been a huge surprise, but hopefully there will be several smart moves made a couple months from now.
  21. Thanks for the report, Tom. They are appreciated. Every year there is hope one top Twins prospect will arrive and be that guy. You know, a star rookie who is in the running for ROY and future stardom. Seemed this year just might be that year with EmRod, Jenkins, Rodon, Culpepper and Gonzalez all one step away at St. Paul. But they can't become that player if they aren't playing and the year is already one-third over. Probably too late in the season to become that stud rookie, but Mendez sure is getting it done on the field. Not only didn't his production take a hit when moving up to AAA, but it got better. Don't recall which of the many trades he was in last July, but it sure looks like a good one. Also noticed the ERA's of the Twins pitchers at St. Paul. And AA and Cedar Rapids aren't much better. Ouch! Was excited seeing another good game from Jiminez, until I read the report and learned he may have again been injured.
