Minnesota Twins Pitchers and Catchers Report - 2026
rdehring replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Great way to start my morning, John. It brought a big smile to my face, thanks. Now will the Twins have a spring that will keep that smile coming back every morning? -
Got a good smile from your last comment, bean. Thanks. Could we be so fortunate this guy would work hard for two years with great results. Should that happen, it would then be time to move on from him with a big return. That's assuming he has more than two years until free agency. He does, doesn't he?

Grading the Minnesota Twins' 2025-2026 Offseason
rdehring replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Interesting read, Cody. Thanks. Thought about your grade 'D' and kept wondering, should it be C-? After some thought came to realization that no, your D is probably where it should be. The off-season can get much better should the GM do what they all are saying, ie, bring in another bullpen arm, or two? The only way I can see them doing that is via a trade, which to me means moving Larnach as the most logical move. Regarding the pen, do they really believe they have a couple young arms on the roster who WILL become the next Duran and Jax? We don't know what they know. If this is their plan I sure hope they are right.- 66 replies

Great read, Lucas, thanks. Also enjoyed the comments from everyone. So many young maybe starters with questions. Hopefully, one or even two take that next step those great young arms at Cleveland always seem to make. Should one of these be pushing Ryan for the #2 slot the Twins and us fans could have a nice summer.
-
Was thinking about this, terry, while reading all these comments. How many complete games did Blyleven pitch? Or my favorite pitcher of all time, Warren Spahn? Some of us remember days when the bullpen had one very good closer and several others who almost never saw the mound. Bullpen sure looks different if one of the starter goes 9 innings most games and two others always go 7 or 8. [edit: decided to check, Spahn had 382 complete games, Bert had 242. Both had more than 60 shutouts. Spahn had a complete game in over 50% of his starts.]

Add me to the list of those rooting for Canterino to finally put his health issues behind him. Ever since viewing an interview Seth had with him back whenever, have been very impressed with this young man. Please, let him finally realize some joy out of his professional life. And some success. If the Twins are converting several young starters to the pen, does it make sense that they work more than an inning each time out? Maybe Zebby comes in to start the 7th inning and goes the rest of the way? Or Festa comes in for the 6th inning and gets them to the ninth? They wouldn't be able to pitch every day, but could three of these guys be on a schedule to be available every third game? Say they make 45 appearances averaging 2 or 3 innings (2.5 average), that's 110+ innings.

Tom Pohlad is Saying a Lot, and None of It Lines Up
rdehring replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Another day, another article by you Cody bashing the Twins. Personally, I cannot tell you how tired I am of this. As I read today's post I kept thinking, why do they even play the games. The Dodgers will have the biggest payroll this year, by far. Why not just give them whatever trophy it is for winning the World Series. Why bother playing the season? When we play the Dodgers, if on the road the Twins should just save their travel expenses and give the guys three extra days off because the games are lost. Right? Yes, what I just wrote is ridiculous. But what else can we take from article after article saying the only thing that matters is payroll. I understand the Twins have some problems that need fixing, maybe more than some. But nearly all of these moves were under Falvey's watch and now it seems you are criticizing Tom Pohlad for moving on from him. Also have a question. You guys also have a site that deals with the Brewers. Are you bashing them for the level of their payroll? It was less than the Twins last year. Is it again this year? Just wondering, considering that they had the most wins in baseball last year. -
Please listen to what I am saying, I don't care how he compares and have said nothing about it. All I care is that he does a good job defensively for the Minnesota Twins. If he is the worst defensive second baseman in baseball but still does a good job for the Twins, excellent. Finally being healthy, I believe he has the ability to be that. And yes, I now understand what you are saying about average, thanks.

You aren't listening to what I am saying, DJL. I haven't said anything about comparing him to anyone. I don't care how he compares. All I care is that he does a good job playing second base, ie, he is not a liability. My point being that with all his time away from playing in the field and his arm injuries I ask that people give him a chance to be healthy and prepared for a season. To me, seems like you and many have already determined he cannot play second base.

What's that got to do with Keaschall's ability to play the position?

Have seen comments elsewhere about Keaschall's range. He must have excellent speed and quickness, otherwise he wouldn't have been so successful stealing bases. Someone like that should be able to develop the range necessary to be an above average second baseman. I believe his problem was more related to not having played anywhere defensively for what, nearly two years?

Two comments DJL44 that I must disagree with. Matter of fact, I am getting tired of so many people bashing Keashall's D. Yes, he wasn't great last year. If memory serves, he was a DH all/most of 2024 to get his bat in the lineup prior to having TJ surgery late in the year. Following the surgery, he wasn't able to do much over the winter while rehabbing. He then was rushed to the Twins in 2025, before breaking his arm and missing a couple months. The kid played last year with a less than 100% arm. He also hadn't played hardly any D for nearly two years. Let's give him the opportunity to have worked out all winter and spring training before we dump him on the scrap heap. As for Lee, the player I saw was more comfortable at short than other positions last summer. Was he good a short, no, but to my eye he was better than second or third. He is another player who was rushed and could have a much better bat in 2026. At least we can hope so. If not, then his future probably is as a utility guy.

The Best Twins Prospects Outside Top-100 Lists
rdehring replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Wasn't my point, Over the Hill. Was trying to say there are probably lots of people here today who were very young and not even following baseball when Frankie broke in. Yes, all us old and older guys (and gals) remember him well.- 20 replies

The Best Twins Prospects Outside Top-100 Lists
rdehring replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Really don't care all that much about these rankings. What I care about is how they are going to play in 2026 and after they join the Twins. Like most of us, was disappointed by GG's play in 2024. Looking back, it seems that his injury may have been a big part of why. My only question going forward is whether or not they will even try to move him to first base as his outfield D is only ok and first base is a huge position of need for this club. Hill is so young, I just want to hold my breath and hope this kid develops into that special young stud who comes up to the Twins by mid-2027 and never looks back. It's been way too long since the Twins have had that special young lefty. Heck, I suspect a lot of us on this site don't even remember what it was like watching Liriano that first year? I don't care if Houston hits only .225 if his D is as special as most seem to think. My question is whether Lee is holding the position until Culpepper arrives? Then Culpepper holds for Houston? Finally, Houston will hold it for this year's third overall pick who will be the Twins shortstop for a decade plus?- 20 replies

The Twins Should Make A Last Minute Swap With The Mets
rdehring replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Not interested in either of these guys. As the most recent Pohlad said, Go big or go home. Or something like that. So if you are doing any trades, trade Ryan and/or Jeffers for a big return. A HUGE return, including a couple guys already doing better in MLB at positions of need. That along with a couple great prospects who are very close. -
Tremendous post, rosterman. Liked the idea of bringing back Rortvedt. Recall he was hitting well the first month or two of the season for Tampa, was it last year? Don't know what happened after that. Maybe he was dealing with injuries? Maybe not? But his return would give the Twins two players from the Middleton, WI area (Verona and Middleton are almost adjacent). How can you not love that? Can't believe how everyone has given up on Roden after a handful of at bats followed by a trade/move to another club then an injury. My only other thought is I believe Martin is becoming a valuable player who can be a big part of a winning team, both on the field and in the batter's box. Would love to see him starting at least 140 games next year and beyond. Kind of see him as a lesser version of that left fielder Cleveland has, who's name I can't recall.

Twins Bring Back a Familiar Face Behind the Plate
rdehring replied to Cody Christie's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
The Twins keep adding catchers who could be called up, if needed due to an injury on the big club. Certainly seems like they are postering to do something. Maybe trade Jeffers?- 11 replies

Very interesting, Nick. Thanks. As I see it, yes the Twins can compete. But to do so they need to have better health than the past several seasons. Much better with all of the key players playing most of the year. They also need the new manager/coaching staff to light a fire under some of these guys and get some fight out of them. That together with getting a few of these guys to play closer to what they are projected to be and they just might surprise. Yes, I am thinking of you Mr. Lewis, Wallner and Lee. Add one or two of the position prospects and pitchers living up to their hype and the Twins may be more than a surprise. But yes, lots need to go right. So I don't see them making a move on Ryan or Lopez. The more I read about trading Jeffers, must agree it makes a ton of sense now that Caratini is here for two years. With all the corner outfielders here and on the way, a Larnach trade is an absolute must. Maybe they need to add a decent prospect to get a good, young reliever, just do it. Finally, love the idea of extending both Keaschall and Jenkins now. Totally disagree with those comments about Keaschall from Baseball Prospectus. No one seems to want to remember the kid was hurried to the big leagues and dealing with an arm that wasn't 100% from his surgery and then missed another couple months with a broken arm. Heck, wasn't he limited to DH most/all of his last year in the minors? Lets give the kid at least one healthy year to work on his defense before we throw him on the scrap heap.

Twins Prospect Hendry Mendez to Get Time at First

Twins Prospect Hendry Mendez to Get Time at First
rdehring replied to Matthew Lenz's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Absolutely great news. Zoll has been in control for less than a week and we already have one very good decision. -
Another great post and fantastic comments. Sounds like there is a real chance that both Zebby and Festa are better suited for the pen. Perhaps the Twins are also of this opinion, which may be why they haven't been overly concerned with signing a bunch of middle of the pack relievers for $xM each. They may feel that both of these guys will be at least that good.
-
Great post and loved the comments. I don't believe he achieved what we hoped for when hired. That was the development of a Cleveland like pipeline. The pitching pipeline for the Twins is better, maybe even Cleveland light. But it seemed every time Cleveland had a guy go down with an injury, some kid most of us never heard of came up and went 6 innings against the Twins leaving with the Tribe up 4-1 or 3-0, or something like that. Did we know who Bieber was when he came up? Or several of the guys pitching there the last few years? That has yet to happen for the Twins, although he has found some good ones in trades. So I see him as doing a good job on the pitching side. But not great, at least until some of these current kids come up and get votes for the Cy. A lot of votes. But as many of you said he failed on the hitting side and the defense for the Twins has been just plain awful. Why Falvey is gone is another interesting question? I keep wondering if it is more related to the fact he was given total control of both the business and baseball side of the organization. Don't see that often in sports and maybe, or probably, is why he is gone.

Love the comments. But this move doesn't address their biggest problem, the bullpen. Will say it again, trade Larnach or Larnach plus for a good young reliever. Then use those saved dollars to sign another player for either the pen or shortstop defense. That's assuming there are still players out there who could help.
