  1. Great read, Seth. Thanks! Have three comments, err, questions. Also, an observation. First, is really a question. Where will the Twins be drafting in this year's Rule 5 draft? Expect it will be very high, thus, they will likely want to leave at least one 40-man spot open to find that next Santana or Smith. Second, with Gonzalez being a lock and EmRod/Jenkins either on the 40-man or a likely 2026 add, they don't have a need to add any more corner outfielders. Thus, the likelihood of Fedko or Rosario being added goes down. I like both of those guys, a lot. Is it likely they could be part of a trade prior to the draft? As unlikely as that is. Finally, the Twins have a couple promising starters, Festa and Matthews, who have been around for a couple years. Add the big group brought in last July and you have a large group of good starting prospects. Yet, I see the three you call 'locks' having higher upside than any of the above. At least Prielipp and Rojas do, in my opinion. I guess my question is what do the Twins do with more starters than needed? And how/when do they do it? And that leads to an observation. The Front Office needs to decide what their plan is for the off-season and how they plan to compete in 2026? And that's assuming they do plan to compete. For example, this more than needed group of young starters goes away should they decide to trade Ryan, and/or Lopez. Considering there are what you call six locks to be added, I don't see their decisions when adding those will tell us anything about their plans for the winter. [Edit. On this Veteran's Day, wanted to add a thank you to all of us who served America at some time in our lives.]
  2. Remain hopeful that the Twins will pick up a young first base prospect who will be ready come spring. Doubt they will get that for Larnach, who I hope is traded for a reliever. But a catcher or first baseman who is both very good and almost ready must be included in a Ryan trade.
  3. Add me to those above who say no way to the proposals you suggest. First, the Twins could and maybe should keep Ryan. That would give them a trio of excellent pitchers to head their rotation. You know, three pitchers capable of being competitive in the playoffs. Don't know what the front office is thinking, however, they shouldn't trade Ryan unless they get blown away. And that doesn't mean a couple `18-year old shortstops years away. They must get two of whatever team's top half dozen prospects. And only if those are good prospects with at least one ready to join the club in 2026 and the other at Hi-A or AA. Throw in a solid prospect back in rookie ball and you have something to consider. Should they get such an offer they also should be looking to fill holes on their squad with filling one of first base, catcher and the bullpen a must.
  4. Great read, Cody, as your comments are what I have been thinking the last month. Continue to believe that Prielipp is too valuable to be a reliever. But perhaps he can be that bulk reliever in 2026, pitching two plus to four innings every three or four days. Continue to believe they need to bring in one good free-agent reliever. Also want to believe that Canterino will finally be healthy and an absolute stud working out of their bullpen come late June.
  5. Was wondering about Rortvedt while reading this. Then saw his name in the comments but was surprised he was with the Dodgers. Recall he had a great start last year with Tampa. Must have missed the trade to the Dodgers. Recall he was thought to be very good defensively so he again could be a good backup to Jeffers.
  6. Interesting, thanks Jamie. A lot will depend on where the Twins draft. When is the lottery? Of the opinion that the Twins need a ton of help and soon. So my first thought is that they take a great college player rather than a high school kid. Also doesn't help that I continue to be reminded of their recent high school picks that haven't set the world on fire. You know, Cavaco, that high school pitcher from Texas who was a big time quarterback, that tall California lefty, and others. Remain hopeful that Lewis turns it around this summer before moving on as a free-agent and becoming an all-star for some other team. Should the Twins take a high school kid who is the next Bobby Witt, he could/should be playing by 2028. That could be the same time as a college player should there be no or little baseball in 2027.
  7. Very true, Mahoning. Now should Buxton stay healthy and plays like this year, Lewis remains healthy and becomes the player he could/should be, and Keaschall improves rather than has that sophomore slump, the Yankees may only have the better player at six of the nine spots. That would be an improvement from 2025, a big improvement.
  8. Have a suggestion, Cody. How about waiting until next November to grade him? You know, give him a year to see how he actually does as Manager?
  9. Great seeing Amick playing first base. Sure is a position of need for the Twins. Also good seeing Winokur playing about two-thirds of their games. Interesting that it all has been at either short or third. Kid is still so young, should be exciting watching him grow into his body as he matures. Both physically and as a player.
  10. Great article, Cody. And would be a fantastic choice by the new Twins manager. Only negative is some of us would miss him on the tv broadcasts.
  11. WOW. Didn't have a clue he was this good defensively. Knew about the speed, but not the glove. Should he hit last year's numbers for the Twins with 50+/- steals and gold glove level D at second base and you have a player who would be in my lineup. Every day.
  12. Time for my smiley face disclaimer, La Z boy. I use it when I get a good smile from a comment, not as something negative. Do have a question, do they still make La Z boys?
  13. Thanks, Nick. None of know what the future holds for the Twins. I remain hopeful that the front office will make a couple smart moves this winter, albeit likely without spending a lot of money. Add improvement from the current batch of young players together with the arrival of a couple top prospects and we just might have an enjoyable summer. Hopefully, Mr. Shelton will be a manager who will stress good defense together with being aggressive along with a little fight from the guys. Should that happen, I will enjoy 2026 and beyond.
  14. Very detailed analysis, Matt. But is it possible the main part of his problem was his hip injury? Gotta wonder what he would have been like in September had the Twins shut him down when he first began having problems. Wasn't it in May that he began dealing with his hip problem? Yet, no mention of the injury until I began reading the comments above. I remain hopeful that Ober is the pitcher he was prior to last May and that pitcher will return in 2026.
  15. Add me to Cory above as being an optimist. Heck, guys my age will be glad to be around for the next couple World Series. Everything you said Cody is right on. Although unlikely, heck very unlikely, the Twins could be in the World Series next fall. Truth is should things break right any of 30 teams could be. What would it take for the Twins? They keep their three top starters who all stay healthy and pitch like they are capable of doing. Buxton has another healthy year and performs like 2025. Royce Lewis has a good off-season, is healthy the entire year and becomes the player we all expected when drafted. You know, someone like Derek Jeter. Luke Keaschall continues hitting like this past summer and works on his D at second base so he is a bit above average in the field. Trevor Larnach is traded along with a prospect for a solid late inning reliever, with the Twins signing one good and one solid bullpen arms. Walker Jenkins joins the club in early May and becomes the 2026 Rookie of the Year. Toss in a solid season from SWR and one of the young arms being a solid #5 along with a couple other minor moves and all could be good for the Twins. Very Good. As I said at the beginning, is this likely? No, but us old guys can dream, can't we?
  16. Another day, another article talking about what the Twins payroll is going to be. I have a suggestion, Cody. Why don't we wait and see what it actually is? As for me, I am more concerned with what they do with whatever payroll they spend, rather than how much they spend. And if it is a total teardown, I will enjoy watching all those young kids we have followed the past few years playing at Target Field. With a bit of luck and some smart decisions, maybe they will become something real good in a couple years. And yes, I will agree with most of you reading that last sentence that smart decisions aren't a given.
  17. Have liked Larnach since he arrived. Like most, continue to be disappointed with his play. With so many impressive corner outfielders close, have to believe the Twins plans include moving on from both Larnach and Wallner. Only question is when and what they get in return, if anything.
  18. What a fantastic comment TopGunn, thanks. Have been on the road the past couple days so am late looking at this. What a wonderful conversation. Hopefully, someone in the front office is reading this. Will begin with a question for those talking about trading him next summer or next winter. Until there is a settlement on a new CBA, next winter very likely doesn't exist. So for me, that makes a move this winter more important if trading Ryan is near the top of their off-season plan. That's assuming they have a plan. And if there is no baseball in 2027, they really have him for only one more year. Not two. We read nearly every day in some article here and elsewhere about the Pohlad's being cheap. But that's not their biggest problem. At least in my opinion. Their biggest problem for me is not holding Falvey and the front office accountable. Why do I say that? In part because too many of their trades have returned pitchers who have been injured when acquired. It began at the deadline several years back when they got that Giants reliever who pitched what, a couple innings? Then there was Mahle from Cincinnati. And that was followed by the Polanco trade with another starter who never pitched an inning. Fool the front office once, ok. But three times in about as many years in baseball is a big K. While reading the above comments I also began thinking about their catching situation. They have a need for a backup catcher in 2026. Several comments suggest part of a Ryan trade should return a big league ready catcher. Got me wondering why because they have Tait? But Tait is one to two years away and in better fits the plan as a Jeffers replacement. So getting a catcher this off-season does make sense. A lot of sense, although it doesn't have to be part of a Ryan trade. Could also be the return for say Larnach, or Larnach plus one of our catching prospects not named Tiat or Jiminez.
  19. In 2023/2024 he was as good as any of their starters. Seems he has a real clunker early in the year that distorts his overall numbers. But it wasn't that long ago I was seeing articles that all three of the main Twins starters, Lopez, Ryan and Ober, were pitchers who could be in the Cy Young conversation. What happened in 2025 was the result of his injury, at least in my opinion. The Twins probably should have shut him down earlier for a month, or longer, so he could heal. Had they done that I expect we wouldn't be having this discussion. As for the future, should the Twins intend to compete in 2026 they will need their three top starters. And that includes Ober. Should they catch lightening in a bottle with a couple of their young arms, they could move one of them in July.
  20. Where would the Twins have been the past couple of years if Lewis had been the player he could have been? Or is that should have been? As much as we all are anywhere from disappointed to plain out p..... off about the Twins, had Lewis been an all-star these past few years everything might have been so different. Agree there is no way the Twins don't offer arbitration. So the Twins and us fans will hope/pray that he has a healthy off-season and returns next spring as the player he was destined to be. Alhough many of us have already punted on 2026, Lewis playing in next year's all-star game could change those expectations, a lot.
  21. Found it interesting that Mendez' home run came off a lefty. Also liked him striking out only once in 15 PA. Thanks for the report. Had forgotten that the AFL was already under way.
  22. Great article, Nick. Also, excellent comments from the TD faithful. Thanks to all. The Twins have three strengths, starting pitchers, top corner outfield prospects who are close, and Byron Buxton. I will join Nick in that I expect Ryan to be dealt, and hope Lopez is not. Their starting pitching depth should enable them to still have a very good starting rotation with a couple more down at AAA for depth should Ryan be traded. So, the question becomes what do the Twins get in return for Ryan? The Twins greatest weakness heading into the winter is their bullpen. Thus, I believe part of the return must be a young reliever who is capable of being a late inning stalwart. You know, someone like Louis Varland. Add a top pitching prospect who isn't too far away and a third piece who also is a very good prospect and I could see a Ryan trade helping the Twins in both 2026 and beyond. And as long as we all are dreaming, maybe Toronto would be interested in Ryan and Louie could come home!
  23. Would like any of this trio to become the Twins next manager. How can you not like Lombard, who is a 'hard ass' who can both connect with players AND hold them accountable. Reminds me of a coach in another sport from back in my younger days. Except he had an 'i' at the end of his name.
  24. My guess would be that they tender him. With that said, I don't see him being on the team come opening day as he should have some value to another team. Will he bring back a top prospect, probably not. But maybe they can get a decent prospect back should he be a bit further away, say A-ball.
