Expect Wallner is on a plane to Seattle today, isn't he? Is it possible Bader goes on the IL and they don't have to decide who either gets DFA'd or sent back to St. Paul? Looking forward to how MacLeod does tonight. When was the last time Prielipp pitched? Did he miss a turn? Also wondering if the Saints are limiting Festa to 60 or so pitches coming back from his recent pause? Great seeing Winokur with another two-hit game. Especially with one a home run. Thanks for the report, Seth.

Beginning with the Lewis injury in spring training, I have been wondering why? These players work so hard at getting bigger and stronger. Does that mean that their muscles are more prone to the types of injury that Royce just came back from? Maybe players would be better off staying in good shape, but not trying to be the biggest and strongest possible. As for Jenkins, a high ankle sprain isn't the same. Seems just like bad luck, unless he has had a history of ankle problems. Does anyone know if that is the case?

Took a closer look at that KC prospect. Looks like the real deal after being the #6 pick last year. With KC's pitching, this kid will look awfully nice hitting behind Witt and that first baseman. Impressed with the team KC is putting together. What a night for Cedar Rapids. Culpepper hits one out and their pitching made that work. Personally, don't know much about that pitching staff. Are there a couple big time prospects pitching for the Kernels?

Great seeing Wallner with another bomb. They like to see players on rehab play back-to-back games. Expect he will play tonight in Omaha, then catch a flight in the morning to Seattle. If so, expect McCusker will be on a flight from Tampa to Omaha tonight. Great seeing Miranda with a three hit night. Am I remembering right that he has been hitting better the last week or so? With the infielders the Twins have, don't see a future for Jose with the Twins going forward. So hopefully, he will start mashing the ball so he has some value come late July. [Edit. See he will be playing 9 innings today, Thursday. Looks like he won't be going west for another day or two]

Not a lot to like about yesterday's games. Only thought I had was that we are at the end of May and still haven't heard a word about when their top prospect would be back on the field. Hasn't played in soo long have forgotten his name, Walker something, isn't it?

Add me to the list of those intrigued by MacLeod. Will second Dman's comment that I will be shocked if Culpepper doesn't soon move down I-35 to Kansas. Add that it is good to continue seeing a lot of positive every time Hill is on the hill!

Interesting seeing that Prielipp gave up the home run to his last hitter as he was approaching 50 pitches. Expect he needs a couple more starts with a 50 pitch limit before moving up to maybe 60. Doubt he will go beyond that as I HOPE the Twins plan is to move him up to the Saints soon. That will put him in a position to join the Twins in August. Could be a fantastic reliever, one who can go two+ innings, for the playoff run. Gotta love Culpepper as the kid is flat out lighting it up. Looks like time for a move to Kansas, at least to me. Although his first starts haven't all been awesome, excited to see Carpenter pitching tonight.

Thanks, Cody. After a very slow start to the season, his bat is starting to pick up. Kid is so young, hopefully, he makes it AA later this summer. Will be interesting to see if he can stick at shortstop?

Did I read the summary correctly? Winokur had 6 hits, 3 were doubles and 2 home runs?

Thanks for the report, Seth. Very nice start for Macleod with the Saints. Expect I am not alone in being excited about what this young man might become for the Twins. Your thoughts on how high his ceiling might be? Also, he began the season at Fort Myers. Was he coming off an injury and is he still on a pitch limit? See that Sabato is having a decent start to his season. He is someone I gave up hope on about a month or two after he was drafted. Do you think he will ever make it all the way? Lastly, other than Beltre and Acuna, I don't recognize any of the kids playing for the Twins complex team. Expect a few were big signings a year or two ago. Anyone there you feel has the potential to make it big? Thanks again, Seth.

Interesting move. As I watched SWR the past year plus, am always anxious to see if he would get out of trouble. Also always seems to struggle to finish five innings. With that said, the results were good most of the time. Also seems, at least to me, that he hasn't been as successful this year as last. So it isn't a shock that they made this move, especially with the need for a starter this weekend. Expect it will be either Zebby or Festa. Will give whoever arrives a chance to make a statement that says, "I am here for good." With France and Bader leaving yesterday's game and today's collision the position player moves, if any are made, are going to much more interesting. Will McCusker finally get his chance? Or maybe Fitzgerald?

He was at 49 pitches, Doc. I think, don't know, his limit is 50. Yes, he had a rough start with two runs in and runners on second and third to start the game with no outs. But I must disagree with Matt's comment that he "coaxed three outs." He struck out the next two hitters before getting the third out on a ground ball. He then had a clean 1-2-3 second inning. I believe Prielipp is the most important prospect the Twins have in the minors, or one of two with the other being Jenkins. It has been way too long since the Twins have had a top starting left-handed pitcher, since Santana and Liriano. Hill may be as important, however, is much further away from pitching at Target Field. Prielipp could arrive next spring. Or this September if things go well. [Edit. Thanks Bean for the excellent above comment. After getting hosed, he pounded the strike zone to get those critical 2 K's.]

Question, Cody. In the summary you show Beltre going 0-11. But you also show he had 4 RBI and 5 runs scored. With 3 walks, something doesn't make sense?

Got a couple questions, Seth. First, McCusker deserves a shot with the Twins. But looking at their current roster, how can they fit him in? The only move I can see is flipping him with Kearsey. But as we saw yesterday, Kearsey does some things very well for the Twins. Also a bit intrigued by Diaw. Kid is hitting well in his first full season. But, as with all catchers what is his defense like? With a couple years of experience, can he be an adequate big league catcher? Or better than adequate? Also great seeing Winokur's bat come alive. Thanks for the report, Seth.

Hell of a game. Will say that again, hell of a game. Really enjoyed it. Sure hope that the real Twins are closer to this team than the team we saw throughout April. Please? Had a thought when we were all commenting on that post ten or so days ago after Falvey said he had no idea what to do. Kept thnking that on paper this should be a good team. Was wondering if they could play their last 100+ games much like their first 100+ last year. If the answer is yes, they will be in the playoffs. Still too early to say yes, but maybe?

Great seeing two prospects, EmRod and Zebby, who just might help the Twins before the season is over have good games. Have been seeing comments that made me think Zebby has struggled, yet, see his ERA is under 2.00. Can't be struggling too much. Also nice to see MacLeod off to a very nice start to the season. He is coming off an injury, isn't he? Seems like Acuna is also off to a good start. Surprised he is back at the FCL for what, a third season? Anyone here know why?

Thought I had, Seth, looking at the AAA box score is that it is interesting that Gasper has been their catcher the past few games. The Twins are going to need a #2 catcher next year. Are they taking a longer look to see if Gasper should be under consideration? Add me to those commenting about Prielipp. Have a question, Seth. Can a pitcher throw too many strikes? Will batters eventually have better results if they know that most of the pitches are going to be in the zone? As for how many innings he is throwing, I expect they won't stretch him out too much further. The young man hasn't pitched more than a few innings since high school. Was that 2019? Expect their goal is to see him, 1) stay healthy, and 2) gain experience and eventually move up to AAA. Should he stay healthy and remain this successful, will he move beyond AAA this year? Truth is, I have not been as excited about a lefty, heck any pitcher, since Liriano arrived on the scene.

Interesting post, thanks. Yes, Amick could move to first and be a good, or maybe even great, option for first base two or three years down the road. Truth is there are lots of good prospects in the minors who you could say the same about. But I was shocked to see no one mention Royce Lewis as the near-term answer. Would he be injured less at first? I don't know, but would think maybe. Have seen lots of concern the past year or so about his defense at third. Presumably, first isn't as difficult to play defensively as third. At least that's the supposition of this post and reason to move Amick there. Finally, the Twins have Lee as a better defensive option at third, and Keaschall returning for second. Both their bats need to be in the lineup, as does Lewis' bat. Sounds to me that moving Lewis to first may be in the Twins best interest.

Add me to the list of those clamoring for McCusker to move over to Target Field. Can this kid hit a home run say once every 10-12 at bats? If so, I don't care if he strikes out 40% of the time. Also great seeing Festa settle in with a run of very good outings. Sure looks like he is ready to step into the rotation, for good. Should there not be a long-term injury to one of the starters, I remain hopeful that Paddack will continue pitching like he has so the Twins can move him come July. Maybe, just maybe, they could get a decent prospect in return. Would also save a couple million bucks which could be important considering how attendance is down. Looking down in Iowa is good seeing Winokur's bat heat up the last week or so.

The most exciting news in awhile came this week. That was reading in the Strib that the Twins signed Mike Canterino to a two year MiLB contract. Will spend this year rehabbing in Fort Myers, then should be back on the mound next year. Hopefully, he will finally be healthy so we can see how dominant this young man might be. Seems the Twins still believe he could be good.

Edouard Julien and the Very Hard Game
rdehring replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
All of last year, Julien was the most frustrating Twins player for me to watch. Don't know how many times I watched him work the count to full or 2-2 and then watch strike three. Yes, some of those were bad calls by the ump, but he still struck out. I can't count the times I was screaming at my tv, "swing the f.........ng bat. By contrast Luis Arraez would work the count to two strikes and then foul off any number of pitches until he finally put one in play. Have been saying for going on two years that Julien needs to find a little of what Arraez had when hitting with two strikes. If he could only learn that. Problem is he doesn't seem to make any progress towards changing his approach. As for his defense, thought it was less bad last year. A couple games this year make me wonder. Add that he seems to have a couple huge blunders on the bases every month or two, and you have a player that doesn't help a team trying to win. Should he be moved to first base as some above suggest? Probably. Can you live with two or three baserunning mistakes a season? Yes, if he is hitting. But unless he becomes more of a Arraez type of hitter with two strikes, doubtful we will see this young man back at Target Field. -
Great article, Nick. Too bad the subject is too bloody depressing. I don't know what the future holds for the Pohlad's, Falvey, Rocco, or most of the Twins players. I do know that the product on the field ain't working. My biggest question is whether or not Falvey has the "you know what's" to blow this up come July and trade some of the high paid stars who ain't getting it done. Yes, I'm looking at you Mr. Correa and others. Heck, it may even make sense to part with Paddack and Pablo. Yes, most of the top prospects are a bit further away, injured or both. Let's open some slots on the field come August and see what they have in guys like Lewis, Lee, Keaschall, Festa, Matthews, ERod and others. Hopefully, they bring in a few new top prospects to compete with this group. My comment about whether or not Falvey has the ??? to blow this up assumes he is still with the Twins come the end of July. Will he be?

First thought has to be related to Hill's short start. Please let it be something like food poisoning. Please? Great seeing Beltre begin his season just as last season ended, on a roll. Let's hope he is for real and unlike so many of the stars ahead of him, he remains HEALTHY. Is he related to the Beltre that joined the HOF last year? Also curious why the short-season hitter of the year didn't make your Top 20? With all the hitting in northern Iowa, don't recall seeing as much about Culpepper as his numbers suggest we should have. Kid sure seems like a solid player and top prospect.
