  1. Add me to the list of those who appreciate and are looking forward to these post, Jamie. Thanks.
  2. Not clear how much he is making or the terms. Can't believe it if $6.5M for one year, is it? The only comment in the post that I don't agree with is that he would platoon with ERod, if/when he arrives. ERod shouldn't be here until he is ready and when he arrives he should play every day....period.
  3. That sure is an option, one I hadn't thought of. The problem I have is that I believe Varland can be a great late inning reliever who just might help the Twins truly have that best bullpen.
  4. Have been one of those who questioned Wallner's future because of his defense. When he came up it was hard to watch. Has he gotten better? Yes, somewhat. If he plays right field every day for the next few years he should continue to improve. The problem is that he is what I describe as a big lumbering athlete. They may be able to improve a lot of what he does, but you can't improve who he is. That puts me in the group who wants to see his future as a DH who plays right field a couple days a week, or less.
  5. Interesting move, yes. I was one of those who was disappointed when they let him go a couple years ago. First move will be finding a 40-man spot for him. Will they release someone? And if so, who? Or will it be a minor trade? A trade so they can option Castellanos to St. Paul sure would help. The other tough decision will come in seven weeks when they are finalizing their 26-man roster. That's going to be interesting. Although he may have earned a spot, got a feeling Varland may find himself in St. Paul until something happens to one of the arms in the Twins pen. I just hope they make the decision that Varland is a reliever and put him St. Paul's pen rather than starting rotation.
  6. No, No, please No. If CAnterino isn't moved, it will tell us a lot about how the Twins view his being available this year.
  7. Very interesting. Thanks for bringing it to us Matt. Spending six weeks out here in the California desert where my wife's sister and husband live. They/she are huge Dodger fans who were season ticket holders until they left LA a few years ago. Sure didn't need to read anything about the Dodgers being most likely to win it all, I hear that crap every day. Said several weeks ago that I believe Castro has played his best half season of his career and that it was likely that one of Helman, Keaschal. Martin or Keirsey would be as valuable to the Twins in 2025 as Castro. Thus, I remain hopeful that he will be included in a trade before spring training is over. Just might be some GM out there who believes in the player he was the first half of last year. As for the projections, should I be ordering playoff tickets?
  8. Very interesting discussion guys. Love it! Got me thinking of the use and importance of the "inherited runners" stat. At first glance has a lot of value. But not all inherited runners are equal. If Reliever X comes into a lot of games with no outs and a couple guys in scoring position, he is gonna give up some runs. Reliever Y comes in with a runner on first and two outs, he is much more likely to strand them. Imagine there is a way for someone in today's world to develop a stat that would both track inherited runners scoring and weigh how likely they should have scored. Don't know if these thoughts have any value to the discussion, but they were passing thru my brain while reading all your comments above.
  9. Thanks, NIck. This is really interesting. Didn't realize there were that few relievers who are so elite. Seems like every time we played the Guardians, they had five or six of them. I will continue to believe that Duran had an off year last year because he missed almost all of spring training. He never got back to 104 regularly, which made a difference in his results. Am hopeful he has a good spring and we see the pitcher we saw in 2023. As for the 11 relievers you list, I don't expect to see Paddack in the Twins pen. Expect to see him traded before opening day or in the starting rotation before being a valuable trade piece in July. The biggest news for us Twins fans is that we should no longer see those guys who no longer belonged on a major league staff. Take away a couple of those guys last year and the Twins pen's numbers would have been better. Much better.
  10. Julien drives me crazy when watching him at bat. Arraez was so good at working counts. He would foul off close pitches until getting one to hit or taking a walk. Julien stands there and watches close pitch after close pitch until the ump rings him up. Flat out frustrating to this ole Twins fan. If he can become more like Luis, the kid could be good. If he doesn't change he should and will be gone.
  11. Interesting. Thanks for a lot of information that many of us didn't know.
  12. Interesting, Cody. Personally, I don't care about his prospect status. What I care about is that he arrives at Target Field as soon as possible and is the best player on the field for a long, long time. Hopefully, that arrival is late this year.
  13. Lots of comments above about "until Rodriguez gets here." I have never seen him play. Is he a good center fielder? Really good and ready to play center for the Twins? Or will we be talking about finding someone to back up Buxton after he arrives?
  14. One other point, jm. Martin is a youngish player, experience wise. Add to that the fact that the Twins were playing him all over the place, it felt to me he was flat out overwhelmed with the entire first trip to the 'show.' Could be a totally different player in 2025. Will he?
  15. True. But that is what makes the trade, Berrios for SWR, a good one as SWR is much younger and has many more years at affordable salaries.
  16. Always enjoy reading your articles, Nick. Thanks. As far as the state of the Twins is concerned, count me among those who believe the team is in a good place heading into spring training. My only wish is that those March games begin soon and a lot of them are on tv?
  17. Interesting. I would think/hope the Twins watch a kid who is signed/drafted as a shortstop for a year or so at that position, exclusively. If he looks like he could be a special defensive shortstop, I would hope they keep him there full time. If he is suspect defensively, then it would make sense to begin moving him around to see if he can find another defensive home. If he fails to find one, then working on various positions makes sense. Whether or not they are doing this, I don't have a clue.
  18. Love this kid. Also, believe that Lee, Lewis and Keaschall will be huge for the Twins for many years. Biggest question is who's on first, second, etc? My question is can any of them play shortstop? Well?
  19. Canterino comes up in May, Prielipp in July. LOve it. Still believe Prielipp is a future starter, but this is a great idea in 2025.
  20. Have been waiting for this report, thanks. At first glance, seems this class is larger than most? Is that true? Also seems to have more pitchers than I recall from past years. Considering I can't remember the last Twins pitcher who was an International signee, that they signed, the number of pitchers is encouraging. Also fantastic seeing three catchers. Could the Twins find a diamond in this group? Sure would be nice. Also expect Papa Leon is the happiest man in the entire Twins organization. Congrats to him.
  21. Good question, Nick. But like a few of the above, I expect he still shops at Dior. So all is not bad in his world. And unlike many, I believe the Twins have a roster that can compete in the Central and beyond. Will they is another question? And the answer will in large part be determined by the health of so many. Should Correa, Buxton, Lewis, Stewart, Topa, Duran, Paddack and a few others play most of the season, the Twins can be good. Very good! Sure, the Twins could tinker around the edges and strengthen a few positions. But I don't see them needing all that much. Kind of like when many were concerned that the Wild didn't do much last summer. And that turned out very well if they can get a couple of their stars off the injured list.
  22. Off topic, Seth. But I read in today's Strib something about the International signings. Seems the Twins, and others, may have benefited from the Dodgers and a few others waiting for the Japanese pitcher. Sounds like the Twins did maybe the best since that year they got the big 3 what was it, fifteen or maybe twenty years ago? Will you be doing a complete report?
  23. Interesting. Want to get back to Paddack and my belief that the time to trade him is not now. First, let him pitch half a season to confirm he is the quality pitcher the Twins traded for. Second, keeping him until the break allows the Twins to confirm that 1) SWR is the pitcher we saw last summer, and 2) Festa and or Matthews are solid big league starters, or 3) One of more of the younger guys makes it all the way to the Twins and proves he can pitch at a big league level. Assuming the answers to two are positive, then you look at trades for Paddack this summer. Should he be pitching well, the Twins just might get a nice return. Maybe that young catcher or first baseman?
  24. Most of us are excited about Jenkins, who I understand is ranked first or second in all of baseball. Would be great to see an article of how previous highly ranked prospects have done. Say a look at where the top 3 or 5 from the past ten years are now and what they have done. Are there any/many busts from the top 3? How many all-stars? If there are few or no busts, then we have reason to really get excited.
  25. Love this exercise, Nick. Thanks! Will agree with those who believe Buxton must be on this list somewhere. If he is healthy and plays, say 125 games, he is the one player capable of taking the Twins to the promised land. And he is under contract for several years with a contract that doesn't break the bank. It wasn't that long ago that I can recall most Twins fans praying for a top of the rotation starter. They haven't had one since the days of Radke and Santana. And now they have three. FANTASTIC! Go Twins.
