  1. Thanks for posting, Rod. I have been thinking that he reminds me a lot of Gladden ever since that first game in St. Louis. The similarities are there right down to his style of play and longer, wild hair. Considering I still miss the days of the Piranhas, I am looking forward to watching him this summer.
  2. Have the same thoughts as several comments above. Which puts the least stress on a pitcher's arm? Is it starting once a week and going 5-6 innings? Or is it going an inning or even two a couple times a week? I don't know. Question is whether anyone outside of a major league coaching staff/trainers knows? Should he stay a starter or move to the pen later this year doesn't mean that is where he will be long term. As many above have said, I see the most important goal for him this year is to pitch every week and end the season HEALTHY! Another question is whether or not the arrival of Hill and Carpenter will play into their decision of what to do with Prielipp. If both remain excellent starting prospects, there may be less need for Prielipp to stay on that parth.
  3. Add me to those who are elated seeing Prielipp as Wichita's opening day starter. To be honest, I thought 47 pitches was a few more than I expected. Probably should have let him sit after that dominant second inning. Don't know what to say about Hill, other than "you betcha, he sure looked fantastic." My son's office overlooks the ballpark in Columbus. He confirmed the weather has been 100% horse crap for the last week, plus.
  4. Thanks for the report, Seth. Has been way too long waiting for these to return. Two excellent articles in today's Strib. One talks about the development of the Twins pitching pipeline. The other talks about eight players who stood out this spring and will be playing in the lower minor leagues. What I found most interesting is three of the eight are left handed pitchers, Prielipp, Carpenter and Hill. Sure looks like Keaschall's bat is saying I am ready for the 'show.'
  5. I seriously hope that Prielipp spends no more than two months in Wichita before moving up to the Saints. I may be missing something, but other than Jenkins it doesn't appear that the Wind Surge will have a tough lineup for opposing pitchers, will they?
  6. Plus, Prielipp making it three. Am so excited about the two lefties which is something the Twins need, badly. Question, Seth. Do you know if Madison College is still a two year school? Back when I was in Madison, it was Madison Tech. Well, actually it was Madison Central High School which later became Madison Technical College sometime in the 60's, I think.
  7. Thanks, Cody. One player who you didn't talk about is the lefty out of Madison Tech, Carpenter. Is my memory correct and the Twins paid the eleventh round pick significantly over slot? Also recall he could have a high ceiling after a ton of success at Madison. Is that correct?
  8. Very interesting group who should provide a wonderful season for the Cedar Rapids fans. A bit disappointing that DeAndre and Winokur will both be with the Kernels. With the Twins needing a couple big time prospects at shortstop, would be nice if both of these young men got to play the position every night. Unfortunately, I don't know how a team can have two shortstops in the lineup every night. Has to be a bit disappointing for both the Twins and Gonzalez that he is back in Hi-A for another year. You didn't mention Urbina in your report. Also a bit surprising he is repeating Hi-A, isn't it?
  9. Well, the second inning is finally over in Chicago and the Twins are down 7-0. This is flat out ugly. Maybe some are right and the Twins don't have a ton of talent. But I still don't understand how they can be this bad. So I will jump on the Baldelli bandwagon. As the head guy, yes, the buck stops with him. Isn't it his job to get his team mentally prepared to compete? It may be the worst thing about this team right now. And to make matters worse, St. Paul doesn't play today to have something to be excited about. t
  10. Interesting, Nick. Two concerns from your article and my watching, was it yesterday's game? First concern is Lee. Wasn't it known that he had back problems coming out of college? Wasn't last year's absence caused by a back problem? Love what I hear about this young man's talent and have zero concern with his hitting last year. My concern is how often he will be injured and how short his career might be. My second concern was watching Correa jog to first on that ball yesterday. OK, he might not want to run flat out as fast as possible. But he sure could have run moderately hard. Seeing your star run like he doesn't care just doesn't look good. And that's one of the reasons I was already asking myself if this year is already over? Keep hearing great things about Winokur. Can he possibly get here by the middle of next year?
  11. You failed to mention one more decision Baldelli made that just might have cost the team a win on Saturday. After Alcala was hit with a line drive, he stayed in the game and promptly gave up, what was it three runs? He clearly wasn't the same pitcher he was when facing the first hitter of the inning. Of course any pitcher is going to say he is ok and wants to stay in the game. But the Manager has to make the hard decision to get him out of the game. And then to leave him in for another three batters made the situation worse. As for starting Ober, he had two pitchers available, who will pitch today and tomorrow, who were coming out of spring training with lots of rest. Easy decision to go with either, but then he might have to redo his pitching schedule he has in ink for the entire season.
  12. Thanks, Cody. Was surprised at how many innings he got in games this spring with the Twins. Sure seems that the Twins believe he is a special prospect. The Twins need some, heck a lot of good news. Would be nice if he has a fantastic 2025 and breaks in with the Twins as a 21 year old in 2026. As for where he plays, short or center, opportunities will likely arrive considering the health of the Twins starters at both spots. Hopefully, his play defensively in 2025 will make it clear which is best for him and the team.
  13. Keep asking the question, what if? What if the Twins let him settle into playing only in the infield or outfield. If so, would his defense be better? Don't know what to think about his bat. On paper I wonder if he could be someone similar to Arraez, only a lot faster. But his play seems to indicate that ain't likely. His future in the outfield with the Twins doesn't exist with EmRod and Jenkins likely joining the team between this summer and the start of next year, at the latest. With Lee, Keaschall and others getting close the opportunity for the infield also seems minimal. That means for now he is a depth player at St. Paul with his future likely with some other organization via either a trade of being DFA'd.
  14. Don't know who will finish 2025 as the better prospect/pitcher. My hope is that both will have fantastic first halves and pitch the second half for the Twins. That would enable them to move on from both Paddack and Lopez. Don't know what has happened to Pedro, but he doesn't seem to be the near ACE he was two years ago. Keep thinking that this duo just might pitch as well as Pedro/Paddack in 2025 and better for a long time in the future. Yes, I know the season is only two games old, but there was nothing little I saw on the field that gives me hope that this is going to be a good season. Made that change because I liked what I saw from Larnach and Castro's bats and Buxton in center field. Also thought Ryan had a good start yesterday, although he maybe allowed a few too many baserunners. What I did like was the Cardinals. A couple mature hitters at the top of their lineup who do what they are expected to with runners on base. Add a few young guys at the bottom that can run and create havoc doing so. Also loved their overall team defense. Heck of a team that appears to be in the middle of retooling.
  15. Thanks for the report, Tom. And isn't it great to have baseball back in St. Paul, especially back with so many exciting young prospects. Year after year I would wish that the Twins AAA team would have a starting rotation with some big time prospects in it. Even just one or two. Well, this rotation is like a piece of apple pie with ice cream to this old guy's dinner, ie a slice of heaven!
  16. Very disappointing loss. Pablo wasn't sharp and seemed to get rattled with the stolen base attempts. Two at bats to get back into the game early, but Miranda seemed lost in his at bat with the bags loaded and I believe one out. Add a defense that was mediocre at best and game one certainly points out that there could be problems ahead.
  17. Thanks Seth. Almost every year you would publish the Saints/Red Wings roster and I would shake my head as I reviewed the starting rotation. Seems like nearly all of them were AAAA type guys who weren't going to excite anyone if/when they were called up by the Twins. Well those days are over. There is a ton of potential with this group. And every single one of them was drafted by the Twins, is relatively young and an excellent prospect. Still found myself shaking my head as I read this, but today it was with the joy of anticipation for what we are about to see at Target Field. Go Twins!
  18. You are comparing apples with oranges. Yes, the Twins were on 1M households last year. But they were only available on those 1M. This year they are available on every tv in a household with internet, via Twins.tv. Expect that number is several million compared with one million last year. Yes, you have to pay extra for it. But didn't you have to pay extra to have the cable/streaming sites it was available last year? The big difference is that anyone in the metro or even outstate who wants the Twins this year can have them. That's assuming they have internet in their home. It's just gonna cost an extra $100. Expect some are like me and still waiting to hear if Directv will have them. If not, will be signing up for Twins.tv on Thursday morning.
  19. Question. You didn't list Raya as a probably Saints starter. He is going to be in St. Paul as a starter, isn't he?
  20. This morning I read that Canterino is out for another year. Expect they will stash him on the 60-day IL and see what he looks/feels like in October before reviewing his status. But does this mean his career is over? Also read that Stewart is hobbling a bit. Now Lewis is out for who knows how long? Hopefully it heals and he is ready to return in a month, say the middle of April? And I was hoping this year would be different. I guess not.
  21. Thanks for bringing back memories of how good it was when Cruz was here. Is he still playing somewhere? Or has he retired? Hopefully, either Miranda or Julien will hit beginning opening day and lay claim to about 75% of the starts at DH. Hopefully? Expect another option would see Bader playing his way into a starting job in left or right with either Larnach or Wallner getting a lot of games as DH. Was curious who Dameury Pena was as I didn't recognize his name. Clicked on his name and see he is a 19 year old Dominican who was in the FCL last year. Also see he put up good numbers both in the DSL two years ago and last year at Fort Myers.
  22. Assuming he is healthy, I see Ryan being a part of the Twins three headed monster at the front of their rotation. An argument could be made that any of Lopez, Ober or Ryan are a team Ace and in the hunt for the Cy award. Expect this trio will match up with any team's top three, which is all any team could ask for. Will the Twins trio remain healthy and pitch their best in 2025? We won't know until the end of the season when we hope the Twins are still playing ball.
  23. Interesting, Nick, that your entire discussion was about his bat. What the Twins are going to miss is Kepler's play in right field. Will acknowledge that even Kepler didn't seem like himself out there at times last year. Although he was one of my favorite Twin, I understand it was time for the Twins to move on. The player I see out there is a big lumbering man who has almost zero quickness. Yes, he has a cannon for an arm, however, there are a lot of balls he won't get to and others he will misplay. Will his bat overcome those runs that will score because he didn't make a certain play. Probably, but having him out there doesn't help the Twins improve their less than stellar defense. So count me among those who can't wait to see EmRod and Jenkins arrive so Wallner can split his time between being a backup right fielder who gets most of his at bats as DH.
  24. Thanks for the report, Nick. Was driving to EP Mall yesterday with the game on the radio. Caught the ugly inning Julien had defensively. I kept wondering if his D will make it difficult to keep him on the opening day roster? Has he looked good at first and I just heard one bad inning? I keep looking at the box scores and seeing Lee at shortstop. Isn't he a leading candidate for second base?
  25. As I read this Cody, I kept thinking 'are there other guys who aren't top prospects but have one fantastic tool?' Would have been interesting to have a few comments about some of those kids. Perhaps someone who doesn't hit for a ton but is the fastest player in the system. Thanks for the report. Sure looks like the Twins really need a couple of these guys to make it big.
