You failed to mention one more decision Baldelli made that just might have cost the team a win on Saturday. After Alcala was hit with a line drive, he stayed in the game and promptly gave up, what was it three runs? He clearly wasn't the same pitcher he was when facing the first hitter of the inning. Of course any pitcher is going to say he is ok and wants to stay in the game. But the Manager has to make the hard decision to get him out of the game. And then to leave him in for another three batters made the situation worse. As for starting Ober, he had two pitchers available, who will pitch today and tomorrow, who were coming out of spring training with lots of rest. Easy decision to go with either, but then he might have to redo his pitching schedule he has in ink for the entire season.

Thanks, Cody. Was surprised at how many innings he got in games this spring with the Twins. Sure seems that the Twins believe he is a special prospect. The Twins need some, heck a lot of good news. Would be nice if he has a fantastic 2025 and breaks in with the Twins as a 21 year old in 2026. As for where he plays, short or center, opportunities will likely arrive considering the health of the Twins starters at both spots. Hopefully, his play defensively in 2025 will make it clear which is best for him and the team.

Keep asking the question, what if? What if the Twins let him settle into playing only in the infield or outfield. If so, would his defense be better? Don't know what to think about his bat. On paper I wonder if he could be someone similar to Arraez, only a lot faster. But his play seems to indicate that ain't likely. His future in the outfield with the Twins doesn't exist with EmRod and Jenkins likely joining the team between this summer and the start of next year, at the latest. With Lee, Keaschall and others getting close the opportunity for the infield also seems minimal. That means for now he is a depth player at St. Paul with his future likely with some other organization via either a trade of being DFA'd.

Don't know who will finish 2025 as the better prospect/pitcher. My hope is that both will have fantastic first halves and pitch the second half for the Twins. That would enable them to move on from both Paddack and Lopez. Don't know what has happened to Pedro, but he doesn't seem to be the near ACE he was two years ago. Keep thinking that this duo just might pitch as well as Pedro/Paddack in 2025 and better for a long time in the future. Yes, I know the season is only two games old, but there was nothing little I saw on the field that gives me hope that this is going to be a good season. Made that change because I liked what I saw from Larnach and Castro's bats and Buxton in center field. Also thought Ryan had a good start yesterday, although he maybe allowed a few too many baserunners. What I did like was the Cardinals. A couple mature hitters at the top of their lineup who do what they are expected to with runners on base. Add a few young guys at the bottom that can run and create havoc doing so. Also loved their overall team defense. Heck of a team that appears to be in the middle of retooling.

Twins Minor League Report (3/28): Saints Dominate Opener
rdehring replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Thanks for the report, Tom. And isn't it great to have baseball back in St. Paul, especially back with so many exciting young prospects. Year after year I would wish that the Twins AAA team would have a starting rotation with some big time prospects in it. Even just one or two. Well, this rotation is like a piece of apple pie with ice cream to this old guy's dinner, ie a slice of heaven!- 13 replies

Very disappointing loss. Pablo wasn't sharp and seemed to get rattled with the stolen base attempts. Two at bats to get back into the game early, but Miranda seemed lost in his at bat with the bags loaded and I believe one out. Add a defense that was mediocre at best and game one certainly points out that there could be problems ahead.

2025 St. Paul Saints Opening Day Roster Preview
rdehring replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Thanks Seth. Almost every year you would publish the Saints/Red Wings roster and I would shake my head as I reviewed the starting rotation. Seems like nearly all of them were AAAA type guys who weren't going to excite anyone if/when they were called up by the Twins. Well those days are over. There is a ton of potential with this group. And every single one of them was drafted by the Twins, is relatively young and an excellent prospect. Still found myself shaking my head as I read this, but today it was with the joy of anticipation for what we are about to see at Target Field. Go Twins!- 30 replies

The Twins' TV Cable Channels Are Here
rdehring replied to Peter Labuza's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
You are comparing apples with oranges. Yes, the Twins were on 1M households last year. But they were only available on those 1M. This year they are available on every tv in a household with internet, via Twins.tv. Expect that number is several million compared with one million last year. Yes, you have to pay extra for it. But didn't you have to pay extra to have the cable/streaming sites it was available last year? The big difference is that anyone in the metro or even outstate who wants the Twins this year can have them. That's assuming they have internet in their home. It's just gonna cost an extra $100. Expect some are like me and still waiting to hear if Directv will have them. If not, will be signing up for Twins.tv on Thursday morning. -
Question. You didn't list Raya as a probably Saints starter. He is going to be in St. Paul as a starter, isn't he?

Royce Lewis Leaves Spring Game with Apparent Leg Injury
rdehring replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
This morning I read that Canterino is out for another year. Expect they will stash him on the 60-day IL and see what he looks/feels like in October before reviewing his status. But does this mean his career is over? Also read that Stewart is hobbling a bit. Now Lewis is out for who knows how long? Hopefully it heals and he is ready to return in a month, say the middle of April? And I was hoping this year would be different. I guess not. -
Thanks for bringing back memories of how good it was when Cruz was here. Is he still playing somewhere? Or has he retired? Hopefully, either Miranda or Julien will hit beginning opening day and lay claim to about 75% of the starts at DH. Hopefully? Expect another option would see Bader playing his way into a starting job in left or right with either Larnach or Wallner getting a lot of games as DH. Was curious who Dameury Pena was as I didn't recognize his name. Clicked on his name and see he is a 19 year old Dominican who was in the FCL last year. Also see he put up good numbers both in the DSL two years ago and last year at Fort Myers.

Assuming he is healthy, I see Ryan being a part of the Twins three headed monster at the front of their rotation. An argument could be made that any of Lopez, Ober or Ryan are a team Ace and in the hunt for the Cy award. Expect this trio will match up with any team's top three, which is all any team could ask for. Will the Twins trio remain healthy and pitch their best in 2025? We won't know until the end of the season when we hope the Twins are still playing ball.

Minnesota Twins 2025 Position Analysis: Right Field
rdehring replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Interesting, Nick, that your entire discussion was about his bat. What the Twins are going to miss is Kepler's play in right field. Will acknowledge that even Kepler didn't seem like himself out there at times last year. Although he was one of my favorite Twin, I understand it was time for the Twins to move on. The player I see out there is a big lumbering man who has almost zero quickness. Yes, he has a cannon for an arm, however, there are a lot of balls he won't get to and others he will misplay. Will his bat overcome those runs that will score because he didn't make a certain play. Probably, but having him out there doesn't help the Twins improve their less than stellar defense. So count me among those who can't wait to see EmRod and Jenkins arrive so Wallner can split his time between being a backup right fielder who gets most of his at bats as DH. -
Thanks for the report, Nick. Was driving to EP Mall yesterday with the game on the radio. Caught the ugly inning Julien had defensively. I kept wondering if his D will make it difficult to keep him on the opening day roster? Has he looked good at first and I just heard one bad inning? I keep looking at the box scores and seeing Lee at shortstop. Isn't he a leading candidate for second base?

As I read this Cody, I kept thinking 'are there other guys who aren't top prospects but have one fantastic tool?' Would have been interesting to have a few comments about some of those kids. Perhaps someone who doesn't hit for a ton but is the fastest player in the system. Thanks for the report. Sure looks like the Twins really need a couple of these guys to make it big.

Let's add Varland to this discussion and have a shutdown Group of Four! Not only being formidable, that would give each a day off every couple days.

Disappointing to see all the negativity about Paddack. The young man was once very good. Can he put those injuries behind him and be nearly as good? Don't know, time will tell. But our hope as Twins fans should be that he has a good to very good first half of the season. One, it would help the Twins battle to be in first place come July 15. Second, it would give the Twins one of the better starting pitchers who could be available at the trading deadline. With at least one of Matthews, Festa, et. al. ready to step into the rotation, let's hope Paddack has that good first half and delivers an excellent young prospect, or two, to future Twins teams.

When I looked at these, Seth, I thought that 9-10, Prielipp and Hill could have been higher. Can't recall the Twins ever having three lefties with the potential Prielipp, Hill and Carpenter have. One gets a feeling that either Prielipp or Hill could develop into something like Liriano was. Based on what I read about Carpenter, seems like he would be more of a left-handed Radke. Hopefully, one of them makes it as I can't recall the last good leftie starter the Twins had. Was it Liriano?

Minnesota Twins 2025 Position Analysis: Shortstop
rdehring replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Thanks for another outstanding report, Nick. My wish for the Twins in 2025 is 150-135-120. That's 150 games for Correa, 135 for Lewis and 120 for Buxton. Should that happen, the Twins will be playing a lot of baseball come mid-to-late October.- 14 replies

Count me among those, perhaps few, who remain hopeful that all deals will not materialize and the Pohlad's will remain owners of the Twins well into the future. Years beyond my time watching them. Over the past few years they have dealt with a pandemic and explosion of their television contracts and a big part of their revenue. Two years ago was one of the most exciting runs in their history. And they would have been a playoff team again last year had not nearly the entire team either gotten injured or gone in the tank the last six weeks or so of the season. I continue to appreciate a team who is managed like a business and spends within their means. Yes, management and ownership could have handled a few situations better, but who among us hasn't done or said the wrong thing from time to time. With an exciting group of young players on the team and a pipeline, hell, a storm water run-off sized pipeline of pitching talent nearly ready the future is bright. Very bright.
-
With his long and difficult journey, cannot be more hopeful that something good will finally come to this young man. Still believe that he can not only be a part of future Twins pens, but that he can be special. Considering how many players have been removed from the 40-man this winter, certainly seems like the Twins continue to believe as well. Let's hope his big league career begins this summer at Target Field.
-
Have the Twins ever had a AAA rotation of all or mostly young prospects? I don't remember any, at least in the recent past. But it sure looks like that will be the situation this year. Expect Canterino needs lots of work before he will be ready for the big leagues. This young man hasn't pitched much since, well, coming to the Twins however long ago. But when he does pitch, he seems to miss a lot of bats. Expect he will be considered as a reliever, at least for now. Build him up a bit in AAA to maybe going 2-3 innings, get his velo back and get him ready to be a HUGE addition to the Twins pen by early summer.

Minnesota Twins 2025 Position Analysis: First Base
rdehring replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Yes, NIck, good question. Expect it will be answered in spring training. Or not. Have thought for some time the biggest need the Twins had was a young catcher who would grow into #2 or #1A. Beginning to think that a young first baseman who can hit and play good D may be the new #1.- 28 replies

Don't disagree with what you are saying bean. But remember last year, didn't their two opening day catchers start every game of the year? Was just trying to say that when they now have fantastic young depth, will this be the year it isn't needed? If so, they will have some trade options come July. Not saying that will happen, just that fate may break to the good side this year.
