Interesting that many of you assume that injuries will create X number of openings this year. In a year that the Twins have fantastic depth, yes depth of excellent young prospects rather than AAAA retreads, is this the year that most of their opening day guys stay healthy and they don't need many to come up to help? If that is the case, they may just have some arms that could be sought after come July. Arms that just might bring back a load of younger talent. Wouldn't that be FANTASTIC, being both in the hunt and able to be a seller! As for who, that's up to the guys earning the big bucks to decide.

What memories, DJL. When I was probably 12 years old went out goose hunting one morning with Bob Feller. -

Minnesota Twins 2025 Prospect Previews: Dasan Hill
rdehring replied to Jamie Cameron's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Love these reports, Jamie. Yes, Hill seems to be uber exciting. And going that far over slot meant the Twins really wanted him. But the one I am most anxious to see is when you get to Carpenter. Those eleventh round picks can always be interesting. Add that his performance at Madison Tech was beyond good, if memory serves, and you have my favorite pick from last year's draft. Twins could have one heck of a starting rotation two or three years down the road. GO TWINS, GO! -
Loved the article, Nick. Also got a good smile out of a lot of the comments. Thanks guys! Don't have a clue whether or not they will win 90 or more. Also don't know if that will win the Central. What I do know is they gotta play the games for us to find out. With the Twins being available all over our television sets this summer, its gonna be a good one.

What are we going to get from Paddack in 2025? Truth is, no one knows what they are going to get from any ballplayer every year. Any player can go down with a season ending injury before opening day. Granted, someone with his injury history may be a bigger risk, but sounds like he is as healthy as he has been for most of his career. I like what I am hearing from him. Considering the Twins have several young arms chomping at the bit to get that call, there is no reason to baby Paddack out of the gate. So the Twins should be able to get the maximum out of his arm the first half of the season. Should that be a good four months, they just might get one heck of a return come the trading deadline. That is my hope, lots of solid starts and then a couple really nice prospects at AA of AAA. Hopefully, the best will be a catcher.

Yup, it could or probably will be a problem. I do think that the kids, whomever is playing second and third, will be better. But damn it was enjoyable watching Santana at first last year. Remember watching the Braves back when I was a lot younger. They had that big guy, Joe Adcock, at first most of the time. But his back up, Frank Torre, was an amazing defensive player. You know, Joe's relatively unknown brother. Best I have seen of late was Dougie M, you know that name I used to be able to spell. Thought he was even better than Santana. But defense at first can be HUGE! So count me among those who love D and will be cussing at my tv a lot this summer.

I am elated that the Twins are in camp and playing baseball. Will not spend any time thinking about who will make this squad. Let the players decide that by their play over the next six weeks. GO TWINS!!!

No question, the bullpen decisions are going to be interesting. Impossible to guess who will make the opening day pen, although who has options will be a big part of any decision. Unless Alcala is much better than pitcher X, gotta believe he is optioned before opening day as he can't be sent out a week later...interesting. See lots of talk about working out a trade to keep the Rule 5 kid, but what if the Phillies aren't reasonable in their request? Continue to believe that Paddack is going to be his old self and a big part of the opening day roster. I remain hopeful that he has a great first half and has a ton of value come the trading deadline when I expect Festa moves into the rotation. Wouldn't it be great to get a very good catching prospect about ready to move up to AAA? Count me among those who want/expect Lee to win the second base job and play second for the Twins for the next ten years. And yes, that means I don't have a clue what they do when Keaschall is ready later this year as I also expect him to be a long term Twin.

Twins 2025 Prospect Previews: Kyle DeBarge
rdehring replied to Jamie Cameron's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Thanks, Jamie, really appreciate learning more about last year's class. Especially looking forward to those guys taken lower in the draft who we know little about. Looking at his size and speed, could DeBarge be our next Nick Punto? Does he have that level of hustle and grit? -
You know I always appreciate your writing, Nick. Today I loved it. Thanks. My only comment after reading your article and the comments is that I knew the Twins pinch hitting last year was bad. But I didn't realize how awful it really was until I saw your .186/.268/,273. That's ugly, really ugly.

Use early spring training to play about half the team at first base. You know, guys like Miranda, Julien, Keaschall, Larnach, Wallner and probably a few others I can't think of right now. See who has the potential to be average or better defensively. Then put the guy there every day during the last week or two and stick with him when the season starts. I think we learned last year that a good first baseman can save the infielders a lot of errors which too often lead to runs.

Clear from the data that you presented, Nick, that Bader was the only choice. The Twins need a reliable defensive center fielder to back up Buxton. Of the four presented, Bader is the only one that can be that. I like Keirsey and hope he gets a chance to prove he is what we hope/think he is, ie, a very good defensive center fielder who can steal some bases and be a solid hitter. But we don't know if that is who he is. So I understand the signing. What I don't understand is allocating $6.25M for him. As the Twins opened their checkbook this week I kept wondering. Is it possible that they are very close to finalizing a deal to sell the team? And if so, have they had conversations with the Buyer about adding a bit to payroll to improve the team in 2025? If so, it appears the Buyer said go for it.

Twins 2025 Prospect Previews: Kaelen Culpepper

Sure hope, madtown, that the similarities are physical only. Not a fan of Mr. Anderson as a person. -

Add me to the list of those who appreciate and are looking forward to these post, Jamie. Thanks. -
Not clear how much he is making or the terms. Can't believe it if $6.5M for one year, is it? The only comment in the post that I don't agree with is that he would platoon with ERod, if/when he arrives. ERod shouldn't be here until he is ready and when he arrives he should play every day....period.

Have been one of those who questioned Wallner's future because of his defense. When he came up it was hard to watch. Has he gotten better? Yes, somewhat. If he plays right field every day for the next few years he should continue to improve. The problem is that he is what I describe as a big lumbering athlete. They may be able to improve a lot of what he does, but you can't improve who he is. That puts me in the group who wants to see his future as a DH who plays right field a couple days a week, or less.

Interesting move, yes. I was one of those who was disappointed when they let him go a couple years ago. First move will be finding a 40-man spot for him. Will they release someone? And if so, who? Or will it be a minor trade? A trade so they can option Castellanos to St. Paul sure would help. The other tough decision will come in seven weeks when they are finalizing their 26-man roster. That's going to be interesting. Although he may have earned a spot, got a feeling Varland may find himself in St. Paul until something happens to one of the arms in the Twins pen. I just hope they make the decision that Varland is a reliever and put him St. Paul's pen rather than starting rotation.

Very interesting. Thanks for bringing it to us Matt. Spending six weeks out here in the California desert where my wife's sister and husband live. They/she are huge Dodger fans who were season ticket holders until they left LA a few years ago. Sure didn't need to read anything about the Dodgers being most likely to win it all, I hear that crap every day. Said several weeks ago that I believe Castro has played his best half season of his career and that it was likely that one of Helman, Keaschal. Martin or Keirsey would be as valuable to the Twins in 2025 as Castro. Thus, I remain hopeful that he will be included in a trade before spring training is over. Just might be some GM out there who believes in the player he was the first half of last year. As for the projections, should I be ordering playoff tickets?

Very interesting discussion guys. Love it! Got me thinking of the use and importance of the "inherited runners" stat. At first glance has a lot of value. But not all inherited runners are equal. If Reliever X comes into a lot of games with no outs and a couple guys in scoring position, he is gonna give up some runs. Reliever Y comes in with a runner on first and two outs, he is much more likely to strand them. Imagine there is a way for someone in today's world to develop a stat that would both track inherited runners scoring and weigh how likely they should have scored. Don't know if these thoughts have any value to the discussion, but they were passing thru my brain while reading all your comments above.

Thanks, NIck. This is really interesting. Didn't realize there were that few relievers who are so elite. Seems like every time we played the Guardians, they had five or six of them. I will continue to believe that Duran had an off year last year because he missed almost all of spring training. He never got back to 104 regularly, which made a difference in his results. Am hopeful he has a good spring and we see the pitcher we saw in 2023. As for the 11 relievers you list, I don't expect to see Paddack in the Twins pen. Expect to see him traded before opening day or in the starting rotation before being a valuable trade piece in July. The biggest news for us Twins fans is that we should no longer see those guys who no longer belonged on a major league staff. Take away a couple of those guys last year and the Twins pen's numbers would have been better. Much better.

Julien drives me crazy when watching him at bat. Arraez was so good at working counts. He would foul off close pitches until getting one to hit or taking a walk. Julien stands there and watches close pitch after close pitch until the ump rings him up. Flat out frustrating to this ole Twins fan. If he can become more like Luis, the kid could be good. If he doesn't change he should and will be gone.
