  1. Fantastic outline of what the Twins should be doing in 2026. But do you really think the Twins FO and Rocco are capable of following said plan? I'm not.
  2. Interesting that two of the three are with the Kernels. Wishing them well for their upcoming series against the Twins former affiliate. As for Amick, there is an open spot in the Twins lineup awaiting he, or anyone, at first base. Unfortunately, he won't be ready to fill it in 2026.
  3. Agree with this logic, DJL44, but feel that Matthews is better suited for the pen. Maybe next year's closer? If Lewis can only have a good winter and spring. If he is healthy on opening day he could have a huge season and be that difference the Twins will need to compete in 2026. They have the starters, add an improved Martin and Keaschall along with the Buck Truck and the Twins could be fun to watch. Yes, they have to restock the pen, but they should have the assets to complete a few trades this winter along with signing one or two good relievers.
  4. Andy Pafko, that's a name from the past. Recall he was an older guy on that team, but a team and fan favorite. Also see that Covington played a bit in '56, so expect he may have began '57 in the minors with the outfield being Pafko, Bruton and Aaron. Really liked Covington and his power. If memory serves, his career with the Braves wasn't all that long. What is most interesting was that Aaron was 100% capable of moving to center after Bruton went down. Not a lot of power hitters who would be capable of that. That and the fact he was a second baseman when he began his career in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.
  5. Even though I was a farm kid who got to Milwaukee for only one game a year, was a huge Braves fan in the late '50's. And what an A-B-C outfield that team had, Aaron, Bruton and Covington. Can't recall who got hurt to get Hazle his playing time. Or was that before Covington arrived? [edit: checked and see that Covington was with the Braves in '57, with around 350 plate appearances. Expect he may have missed some time with an injury.]
  6. Would love to leave two hearts for this comment, LA, but they don't have that option.
  7. Are you referring to Hurricane Bob Hazle with the Braves? When was it, late '50's? Recall he was on fire hitting around .400, before he ran out of season. Never did anything after that. Sure was a headscratcher.
  8. Will agree with both the article and those criticizing Martin's play. I see a lot to like from what he can do well, hit for average and get on base with some speed both in the outfield or on the bases. Unfortunately, as several of you pointed out his running decisions and outfield routes leave a lot to be desired. Can he get better with experience, certainly. Will he? That remains to be seen, although I expect it is likely. Like many of you, I expect Larnach to be part of a trade over the winter to bring in a player to fill one of the Twins many holes. I also don't see Jenkins being at St. Paul much later than May 1, if at all. So the position the Twins have for Martin is that #13 bench spot who can play several positions reasonably well. Will he be that player?
  9. Jenkins' best game at AAA last night got me thinking about a callup. Will the Twins bring him up when the AAA season ends? But then I looked at when he was drafted to see that he doesn't need to be added to the 40-man this year. Expect that may be a big reason for them to not bring him over later this month. Lots to like about Rojas, however, six walks in three innings isn't one of them. See that DeBarge extended his organizational stolen base record to 66 last night. Also noted he was in center field. For those of you who have seen him play, is his speed that special? See that several of you are wondering where EmRod goes this coming week. I have a similar question, will Jiminez move up to Cedar Rapids for the playoffs? Would be fun seeing he and Tait in the same lineup.
  10. Excellent article, John. Am out of town so got to it a day late. I see the normal gripping about the owners and level of payroll. Haven't the Brewers taught us anything? It isn't how much payroll you have, it's what you do with it. Thanks to Correa, beginning next year they will likely have both a smaller payroll and more free dollars to spend than the past several years. It's what they do with it that will dictate what the team does in 2026. Unfortunately, at least for me I don't have a lot of confidence in the guys making those decisions. Like most Twins fans, I will be hoping they surprise me. Heck, change that comment to "shock me."
  11. Best news, at least for me Seth, was Prielipp on the mound pitching in September. Granted, he hasn't been Cy Young this summer. But I like what he did and expect the Twins also like it. Your final comment about the Saints was exactly what I was thinking. It took Jenkins exactly one week to settle in at AAA before hitting like the player he is. None of us have a clue what the Twins are going to look like when pitchers and catchers report next February. Doubt we will see Jenkins with the Twins on opening day. But will be surprised if he isn't with them when the calendar turns to May. The most disappointing news for many of us is how this has been mostly a lost season for Rodriguez. He played what, 40 some games with the Saints? When was the last time he played most of a season? I can't remember. Could he be a fixture in the Twins outfield as soon as next year? Certainly. But 2025 did nothing to prepare him for that, thus, he remains a huge question mark.
  12. Wasn't that long ago that we were concerned Culpepper was wearing down from the long season. Sure seems to have found another gear the last week or so. Another two hit night from Jenkins. But what I really liked was his beating out an infield grounder and taking third forcing a mistake by the defense. Too few of the top Twins prospects play with speed. Love it! Also see that Jiminez was at first base again last night. With this pair of young catchers on the horizon, appears the Twins are working hard to be able to regularly play both when they arrive at Target Field. Was nice seeing last night's outing from Armstrong. Wasn't he considered a throw in from the Castro trade?
  13. Great look at the situation Cody. Thanks. My son played college ball at Denver U and remains in Denver 35 year later. Huge baseball fan and fan of the Rockies. Asked him last winter how the Rockies continue to draw so well considering they are terrible every year. His response was that Coors Field is the place to be all summer. There are a lot of younger adults living in the immediate area. He said many aren't baseball fans, they just go there for the party. I guess it may help to have the ballpark named after a beer.
  14. See Jenkins was the DH last night. Nice 1-4 with a walk and one K after his 3 hit night. And that hit was a double. He has struck out only 7 times in 35 plate appearances. That combined with five walks seems to indicate he is the same hitter in AAA as at the lower levels. Expect he has settled in and will have a nice finish to his season.
  15. Doubt every game will be like last night, but Jenkins seems to be settling in after his first week at AAA. And who is this Jiminez guy down in Fort Myers? Kid is tearing the cover off the ball. Found it interesting that he was at first base last night. He and Tait just might play well together. Has Tait also played at first? Or will he be a DH when not behind the plate?
  16. Excellent article, Nick. And loved the comments. Thanks guys. Don't have an opinion on whether they should try for an extension, whether his agent would agree, or not. But add me to those who believe in the young man and hope he will be a Twin for a long time. Probably a lot longer than I am around to be a Twins fan. Agree that the Twins seem to be developing a group of young players who could become a really good core for the next 5+ years. Jenkins, Keaschall, EmRod (? health), those young catchers who are maybe a year + away, and others. And that doesn't include Lewis or Lee, who both could become very valuable players. How they develop this core and keep them together for more than five years is the job of those smarter than me. Also, those who write the checks. Reading this I kept thinking where would the Twins be had they never signed Correa? What if they had raised their payroll a little every year and never had the big jump and subsequent cuts? Would the fans think better of management? Or better of the owners? Well, that and had they not had any press conferences. But that's all behind us. Kind of like my Dad used to say, "If the dog hadn't stopped to raise his leg, he would have caught the rabbit" So its on to the future.
  17. Everyone has to be excited about those two catchers the Twins got last month. Not certain who we should be most excited about. Tait turned 19 two days ago and is performing well at Hi-A. But Jiminez is tearing the cover off the ball at Fort Myers although I guess we have to consider him a bit old at 19. [Don't know how to do the smiley face as that comment was tongue in cheek.] Only problem is that neither will join the Twins until 2027 at the earliest. That's assuming there is baseball in 2027. In response to your question regarding the Twins soon having seven starting pitchers, I will refer to something I think Tom Kelly once said. "You can never have enough starting pitching."
  18. And who says you can't teach an old dawg a new trick? Now if someone will tell the guys in the front office, maybe they will get more players who actually can run a bit.
  19. Interesting, Lucas. Very interesting. The fact he plays several positions relatively well, I can see some value in having a guy like him around. Probably won't happen, but how can you not cheer for someone like him?
  20. Although a bit surprised they moved him this early, am elated. Assuming he has a good month in St. Paul, I can see him making the 2026 opening day roster. If not, have to believe he will be with the Twins by early summer as I believe this is the one player in the organization destined to be a future star. Just look at this kid. The biggest question I have is will he make more playing baseball or with his outside endorsements and marketing deals?
  21. Since he was acquired, the vast majority of comments I've seen here are saying he has already failed. How many great players struggled in their first 50-100 at bats? Don't have any interest in researching that but would guess the answer is many or even most. Will agree with your comment that the real dislike for this kid is the fact most or all of us were so upset they traded Louie. As you pointed out, his results at AA and AAA were not only good, but very good. Again without spending a lot of time researching this, expect his numbers were similar to Jenkins, EmRod and Gonzalez. Probably a bit less power than EmRod, but certainly better defense than Gonzalez and maybe EmRod also. As for his age, he got to the Show as quickly as most college draft picks not named Kurtz, Let's give this young man a chance before sending him to the Twins Daily trash can. As for openings in the outfield in 2026, agree that one of Larnach or Wallner will probably be gone before spring training. Probably Larnach. And unless Wallner begins hitting a heck of a lot better than he has this year, he could also be gone by then or next July at the latest.
  22. Thanks for the report, Seth. One of the enjoyable things every morning of late for us Twins fans. Two interesting tidbits today. At least for me. One was Winokur stealing his 24th base. The other, Jenkins putting down a bunt and beating it out. The biggest news was Jenkins moving up to St. Paul following their game yesterday. That will give him a full month of AAA. He should have every opportunity to win a job with the Twins next spring.
  23. You probably should have included Wallner in this discussion as he hasn't performed any better than Larnach. Yes, he hits a few really long home runs and is a local kid. But look at the number of runs he's driven in. Just plain disappointing considering how many home runs he has hit. Also don't think you should have included Miranda as he has been out of the Twins picture for at the last year. Expect both Miranda and Julien will be gone in some manner this off-season. Also expect they will move on from one of Larnach or Wallner. Considering there is still a bit more hope with Wallner, expect it will be Larnach. That will give Wallner and Lewis one more year to prove they merit being part of the Twins future plans. But yes, great look at the sad state of the TWins.
  24. Must disagree a bit with some of the above comments. Doubt that any other prospect will be blocking Jenkins' opportunities when the Twins decide he is ready for the move to Target Field. Yes, there are a couple other fine outfield prospects. But there is only one potential super star, and his name is Walker Jenkins. When I look at this kid and consider his bat, speed and defensive ability I continue to think the next 'Mickey Mantle.' If only he was a switch hitter and could wear #7. When the Twins were playing the A's last week, I kept hearing about that rookie they had who is amongst the league leaders in almost everything. Heard he was a 2024 draft pick and kept thinking, "why can't the Twins ever get a prospect like that?" Although he was drafted out of high school, maybe, please let Jenkins be that player for the Twins. And wouldn't it be nice if the Twins have the #4 overall pick next year and draft the next Nick Kurtz? Was aware of the bonus pick for rookie of the year, but thanks Cody for the description of what it is all about. Appreciated it.
