    MLB player is a coveted position with a very limited amount of positions available. There have been thousands of players that maybe could've been good players that just never got the chance because of a myriad of reasons. There are frustrated private conversations happening in minor league clubhouses all over the country on a daily basis.

    Now your changing your tune. Saying he would accept a trade to commence a major league career is not the same thing as wanting out of Minnesota because of the way he is being treated.

    I agree with your whole post and you are correct. That being said when a guy like him is flashing and you know the work he is putting in, I don't want to just dismiss him out of hand. That is why I copied your last paragraph. I would love to watch that play out, especially with the way this lineup is going.

    This is a good point. If you look at Keirsey's recent performance, he is really flashing. Age isn't everything. There are many examples of late bloomers, the Twins have familiarity with the ultimate example, Nelson Cruz. They may be outliers, but they do exist. I get excited about guys like Dashawn. This squad could use more athleticism.

    Reusse doles out one BS take after another with the sole intent of riling up the fan base. Lacking in substance that's all he's got. As an astute observer of baseball, how many times do you actually agree with anything that comes out of his mouth? As a comedian and local character I guess he has a place in a sports market where the other media members are playing it straight, but that's about it. Edit: I'll add that he is at least partially responsible for the mess that is the Strib sports comments.

    I can't tell if I bristle from this suggestion because of a long ago domestic violence incident or his long time as a member of the Evil Empire. The domestic incident was about 8 years ago when he was a much younger man. On the one hand no charges were filed on the other that is common in domestic abuse cases. I think he is still with the mother of his children and now wife, so she apparently has forgiven him. It was also reported that he had begun doing volunteer work with youth in NY before his departure. Of course what I think carries absolutely zero weight here. A quick look at his Baseball Reference page and his stats look pretty good with his strikeout rate through the roof. He only has .3 WPA compared to Duran's 1.8, but some of that may be due to the less competitive team he is on. He did twice end Yankee post-season runs by giving up homers. While he did carry the Cubs to the brink of a championship with an iron man performance, he gave up the lead in the deciding game, but held on to the tie as his teammates came back giving him the win and a WS championship. Ok go get him

    The Twins are paying him the MLB minimum, $750k, for just this reason. They get him back at AAA for depth. He will gladly do what they say so he gets to be a AAAA guy getting paid like a MLB guy.

    Yeah Petty was exciting, electric stuff and confidence reminding me of Ryan. Unfortunately the Twins needed pitching before Petty could provide it.

    Wow this is such a stretch. Rocco just can't win with some fans. Lets his starter go for a complete game shut out and 112 pitches and the next game gets kicked out for arguing with the ump, but man is he soft, smh.

    This would be irrelevant even if it turns out to be true. Every year you must field a team and should be trying to field the best team you can. It doesn't always work out, but a bad team wouldn't erase the value of a good player's performance. Does Mike Trout ring a bell? Two years of top quality starting pitching plus a pick in the mid 30's (or a third year of Gray) for the uncertain future performance of Petty who was a mid twenties pick (26). That is some smart maneuvering. What are the odds even now of Petty having 3 years in the bigs at Gray's performance level? It's still a long shot. Even if he does beat those odds it wouldn't cancel out the excellent calculus of this deal.

    Looking at Wallner's minor league splits this year he has been remarkably consistent. Consistently superb. With almost identical platoon splits as well. C'mon man get this guy up here. A Minnesota kid to boot.
