  1. Sometimes adjustments make things worse. Not all players will respond positively to changes intended to increase power. When the player doesn't respond positively, it is important to stop pounding the square peg into the round cylinder. Knowing when to pull back is indeed part of, wait for it, wait for it..... GOOD COACHING! Good coaches don't implement a once size fits all strategy. Good coaches have the confidence to admit when their initial plan is not working as intended. Good coaches know when to adjust their strategy. Martin regressed when the coaches tinkered to improve his power It makes good sense to back off those adjustments. Buxton was a fantastic example of when sometimes less is more.
  2. This! (beat me to it). Great that he excelled in AFL but need to temper excitement due to pitching quality (look at the Twins pitchers sent). That said, the coaches need to get out of his way this year and let him play. No other player is in a bigger make or break year in my opinion. He could be back as a top 3 prospect (graduated to MLB) or completely off the list next year. It's all on the table. Will be fascinating to watch (but let him dictate his success or failure on his own terms this year please)
  3. Recent reports about keeping Kepler are posturing..... He will be traded before opening day for whatever the best offer is by that time.... .... and then everyone can relax :) '
  4. Festa = Future Elite Bullpen Asset (a la Duran) Wallner = nice depth to have this year and maybe more in the future
  5. I think 11-15 highlights how much depth we lost in the farm system after the trades last year. Hopefully the pitchers we traded for justify that sacrifice with a good performance this year
  6. whoa! You are getting out over your skiis. If Buxton was healthy and playing CF for 140-150 games maybe, but that is not going to happen, So, a good outfield...yes, but the best?! I'll call that a mild delusion of grandeur.
  7. I'm still waiting for a spring report that reads something like... " (fill in the blank journeyman veteran) put on a few pounds over the winter because he added a glass of wine to nightly dinners and now enjoys desert a few extra times a week. But, he still feels confident that he can ride his experience to a couple more one-year contracts to pad his retirement account"
  8. We've officially entered the 'In Best Shape of His Life' season, so real baseball is just around the corner!
  9. If Rocco rolls Gallo out regularly for leadoff, the Twins FO might as well just put a computer in the corner of the dugout where the manager used to stand and just get it over with
  10. Polanco or Buxton or Gordon (probably ranked in that order). I trust Correa's ability and experience to adjust his hitting approach to the game situation the most so I'd like to see him 2-3.
  11. More seriously, if the Twins are serious about this strategy, they definitely need to go after Gallen, because Arizona has a wonderful track record of being fleeced in trades!
  12. "Derek Falvey pulled off another master-class trade" I nominate this as an early candidate for "Most hyperbolic statement within a main TD article-2023" I know there is a lot of time left, but I still like this comment's chances. .... And I am a firm believer in the Arraez trade mind you!
  13. " It’s pretty hard to be disappointed about additions like Joey Gallo and Trevor Larnach." Ummmm.... er..... not that hard? I feel pretty good about the prediction that 2019 Eddie >>>> 2023 Gallo (much less 2019 Kepler >>> 2023 Kepler or Gallo) ... Larnach.... a wild card to be sure but certainly has not proved it enough to count on him yet.
  14. I was surprised to find the rancor for this trade. I wasn't sure that Miami would to a 1:1 trade much less give us a good prospect and a lottery ticket as well! I too very much enjoyed having Arraez on the team, but he is a bit one dimensional and we happen to have a glut of infielders up and coming. Miranda can now start his move to 1st base which is where he needs to end up. BOTH teams could 'win' this trade and I hope they do because it would mean our new additions AND Arraez were playing well. I am also now satisfied with our pitching depth going into the year which is big.
  15. You are definitely in the majority :) I did not hear of any Boston offers because I think they were focusing on their own 300+ million contract at the time (which they got done). If NY had offered 220 million (or even maybe the same 200 million) guaranteed over the first six years... he would have been a Met... and somehow found a way to get over missing out on Minnesota Nice. If Minnesota Nice was actually an important factor, do you really think he and Boras would have aggressively pursued the OPPOSITE Minnesota Nice in New York?!?! This is a blatant PR campaign to make up for ending up back in Minnesota after spurning them for other teams (Minnesota... those other teams meant nothing to me .... I promise!... It's YOU I care about :)
  16. ugh.... I'm clearly in the minority, but Correa and Boras came back because the Twins had the most money on the table.... everything else is window dressing and make good. If having his son grow up Minnesota nice had anything to do with anything, he would not have chased TWO other teams and negotiated for WEEKS with NY! And the fact the Twins were OFFERING THE MOST MONEY when he finally signed with us was just a happy coincidence in his pursuit of Minnesota Nice..... yeeaaaaah riiiiight It's great that we ended up with him and Minnesota IS nice, but the two are completely unrelated in this case.
  17. They need to change the guy in the picture... but that will not happen until the end of this year unfortunately
  18. 'Venomously' was probably an autocorrect for 'vehemently' but upon further review, I really like ' 'venomously against' ... it sounds like a more aggressive vehemently (oh and by the way... i totally agree with shooting for the infield for Lewis)
  19. I'm most concerned about Mahle. The FO is clearly counting on him being a key part to the starting rotation and 2023 success. Shoulder issues can be VERY problematic, frustrating and difficult to fix over the long term. In some ways, the lack of a diagnosis at the end of last season is even more concerning. For example thoracic outlet syndrome would not necessarily be picked up on MRI
  20. 1. Don't sell low with Martin...either let him show better this year and then trade him or work him into the future OF situation with Twins 2. IF Lee and Lewis progress as anticipated trading Polanco and Arraez for pitching should be in the cards (neither excites me as a DH) 3. Eventually 1B: Miranda; 2B: Lewis; SS: Correa; 3B: Lee (Super utility: Gordon; Infield utility: Farmer...lurking to be plugged in for injury: Juilan) but neither Lewis nor Lee ready yet so... stay the course!
  21. Wow... this contract is dare I say..... perfect for us! Unbelievable (ly great)!
  22. This! Make him an outfielder so that he can have positional consistency which will allow him to be more comfortable and better focused to foster his development.
