  1. Another outfielder is the least of the Twin's worries. Now why did they sign another left-handed hitting corner outfielder that is a strike out machine? That would be a fair but irrelevant question because it is a done deal.
  2. Hope is not a plan and we do NOT have great SP depth....
  3. VERY well written Matt!!!!!!
  4. Great article Nick.... you actually convinced me that in this market, taking a 3.7 million flyer on Pagan was probably the right choice..... which is a complete 180 for me (and I don't feel good about it ;)
  5. I haven't seen Boras acting desperately many times in his career. He is the best in his business for a reason. He seems to have started acting desperately after the SF medical review. That made me very suspicious about a potential chronic injury related to his leg/ankle. The Mets reluctance only adds to the suspicion. High AAV for 5 or less years is the only rational way to go at this point for any team (not that Cohen has to be rational). Unfortunately, it is most likely the Mets are still the most likely to provide the best one of these offers.... Twins best hope is that Boras and Correa are feeling a bit vindictive with the big market teams and would take a strong AAV short duration contract with them.
  6. Yaaaawn... It's really neither here nor there as it is not a 'move' that any team serious about a deep playoff run would make. Once that is established... as for the rest of the details.... yaaaaaaaaawn....
  7. And here I thought it was all about his desire to raise his family in the Minnesota Community! (And I always believe what Boras and his clients tell me just like our FO)
  8. And here I thought the most important thing was that Correa wanted to raise his family in Minnesota ? Apparently the FO 'strategy' if selling him on 'the community' didn't work which was.... shocking!
  9. "....but is just a season removed from Cy Young contention" "But is just a season removed from (fill in the blank)." is another winning annual Twins marketing plan. Trademark this ASAP Ted!
  10. "Like many businesses, they hoped the relationship between the manager, club, ownership, and player meant something." If this is true, this specifically highlights Flavine's ignorance. Borras only takes on clients that desire to get the biggest contract possible. He is not interested in "the relationship." Ergo, the fact that Correa took Boras as an agent told Flavine the future. They simply chose to ignore it.
  11. Let's all just get along and agree that the Twins are STILL PIVOTING.... though one could argue that they are pivoting so fast now that they are just spinning in circles.... Dang.....this was supposed to be a unifying post!
  12. The short answer is none of us will ever know and you could be correct. But I suspect that they overbid because: 1. Teams don't usually share with each other what they are bidding (Boras fosters) 2. The Twins were a bit desperate to save face once they realized that they whiffed on FA (Boras knows) 3. Gallo future is suspect at best, so no true contending team is clamoring to include Gallo as a key member of their 2023 efforts. This leaves a bunch of mid and lower market teams and/or non-contenders as potential 'competitors' at best (Boras knew this; Possibly the Twins did too, but.... see #2) Therefore at best.... there may have been another 3-8 million offer out there somewhere from KC, or Detroit, or Baltimore... or Pittsburg.... But again... none of us really know and you could absolutely be right Riverbrian!
  13. Based on reliable (...ok made up...) information the Twins offered 150 million and were sooooo close... They plan to pivot by signing another LH corner outfielder or second baseman!
  14. I think that Flavine collectively made the same face as Gallo in the picture above after whiffing in free agency with presumably a ton-o-budget to work with.
  15. "They did this to themselves though" Yes..... yes they did....
  16. Replied before I saw yours.... great minds and all... :)
  17. "Can (fill in the blank) Rebound From Rock Bottom? " should be the Twins annual marketing campaign. Nick... you need to trademark this ASAP!
  18. The problem is that if he has 'fallen off the cliff' he will NOT be DFA'ed by June. Not when they gave him 11 million and NOT with this front office... I think we can all at least agree that the FO does not cut bait easily on obvious FA mistakes
  19. In 'real life' Boras gets teams to bid against themselves and capitalizes on desperation like any good business person does. Were there any rumblings what-so-ever about all the teams that were 'in' on Gallo? Does anyone think that his signing was imminent if we didn't jump in? Was Baltimore going to swoop in and offer 12 million a year out of nostalgia for Davis? And again, even for the few that think this was a wise move and 11 million makes good sense...... do you really think that money would not have been better spent elsewhere? Really?
  20. Personally, I'd like them to spend their funds elsewhere as stated.... but if another corner outfielder was really their priority.... they could have waited out the market.... who again were they 'bidding' against for this reclamation product? Even Boras knows Gallo's future is suspect. Otherwise, he would have cast the Gallo bait into deeper waters... but he knew none of those big market fish wanted anything to do with Gallo. The Twins FO was just desperate and got played badly on this one. We all may 'care' a little more about this 11 million when the bullpen is getting thrashed during the year I suspect
  21. 11 is likely 11 million more than the 0 dollars being offered by another MLB team right now Boras led the Twins around by the nose for a year on Correa to get the contract he wanted elsewhere and left the Twins with such few options that Joey Friggin' Gallo (who happened to be his client) was their next option.... so yeah... Oh and he got the Twins to give Correa the highest SS contract for a year as a holder until he could sign him a long term contract which he didn't have to share the commission with his prior representation. Boras has done just fine manipulating the Twins FO. And although he is very bright and talented. These particular moves were hardly Rocket Surgery... or Brian Science.... or.... ask the Twins FO... they'll know what I'm trying to say... One little last passing thought... If 11 million isn't all that much... please refer to a bullpen in need and not a corner outfielder glut.
  22. Don't blame you for not seeing Joey Gallo coming when you wrote this because... you know... no one trying to have a successful offseason would...
  23. For those few of you that inexplicably think this was a good signing.... Who do you think the FO was bidding against for Gallo besides a figment of Boras's imagination? What other team do you think was clamoring for his services? Above and beyond a nonsensical signing, the FO got pantsed on the contract itself. I bet you Boras is most thankful this Holiday Season for the Twins FO.
