  1. If the Twins could just play the Royal for each game in different cities a la the Harlem Globetrotters, we would be in GREAT SHAPE!
  2. All that's left to do is wait for the inevitable announcement of Mahler and Buxton's "Surgery/Procedure To Be Named Later" Nick.... your proposed pathway to being tied for the division lead is essentially 'showing the work' for Five-Thirty-Eight's estimated 8% chance of winning the division ?
  3. Well... that turned out to be fast end to the central division 'race' for the Twins.... If the Twins realized that their stretch run was going to be so short, do you think they would have run harder?
  4. I'm kind of in shock, because I think the bureaucracy got this one exactly right..... This is a really strange feeling....
  5. In related news.... The Baltimore Orioles now leads the Central division by 1.5 games.... There may indeed be a central division 'race' ongoing, but unfortunately it is running in the opposite direction than the other division races in the MLB
  6. Kirilloff the number one for me. The entire career is at risk now for an elite hitting talent (bone shortening is far from a guaranteed fix). Wishing him the best, but I could not be more concerned
  7. To me Gordon is the best story... persevered through chronic health issues and the burden of immense expectations to realize his potential. By all accounts, he also a sparkplug for the team. He will still need to prove that he can continue to adjust in the MLB as teams/pitchers adjust to him (with success comes greater opposition scrutiny), but his disposition makes continued sucess more likely than not. Kudos to you Mr. Gordon!
  8. Yaaaaawn.... nothing surprising or noteworthy here
  9. Congrats to Varland.... I can't imagine how special it will be for him to pitch in the MLB for his hometown team! Let's hope this is the beginning of a long run
  10. I believe the Yankees view the 'series' as more of a small speed bumb
  11. Here is the main question: What are the chances that this team could win a playoff series much less a game? To those who say "look at 1987... you never know!" I watched 1987... I know 1987.... and this is NO 1987. We had two pitchers that could dominate a playoff team on a good day (Viola and Blyleven). This team does not have any pitcher even close. That team had Kirby Puckett who could take over games at any time. This team does not have a hitter like that. The 1987 team lacked pitching depth (Les Straker as the third starter anyone?!), so MAKING it into the playoffs was the challenge but once in, they were dangerous to any team in a short series with days off.
  12. So happy for Wallner... must be really special to in front of his family and friends at AAA and hopefully eventually at MLB for years to come. His hard work is paying off and hopefully he'll join the likes of Mauer and Hrbek as a 'home-town hero!"
  13. Just checked... Yes! All three teams have enough games against other teams left that if they split the games against each other and lose the majority of their other games, we could have a Central Division winner under 0.500 It looks like there is going to be one team left out of the playoffs shaking their collective heads at the record of the Central Division "Winner" Let's Go!!!!
  14. I am too lazy to check, but is it mathematically possible for the winner of the central division to be under 0.500 with everyone playing each other in September? I hope the Twins were very confident about their due diligence on Mahle, because shoulder injuries are still a HUGE worry even with modern medical/surgical capabilities and he literally had shoulder issues less than a month before the trade. We are all guilty of Monday morning quarterbacking at times, but this would not be one of those times. As I've posted previously, I am dreading a future Thoracic Outlet Syndrome reveal.
  15. Woops... I missed the first reference to Erickson! I'll second Disco then!
  16. Scott Erickson's slider for the first half of the 1991 season was unhittable (injury issues compromised it for the rest of his career like Liriano, but like Lirano we was nearly unhittable for 1/2 season)
  17. Dear Twins FO, I hear that you have been having relief pitching issues this year in the MLB (*cough* Pagan *cough*). I think that I could help with that, and I'm not too far away, so I could get there in a jiffy if needed. Yours Truly Evan "Tisk Tisk for not trying me" Sisk
  18. Release the Correa-ken!!!!! If there is going to be a sustained surge, he'll need to lead it. Ironically a hot September will greatly increase his chances of opting out, but we'll take it anyway if possible! The line up (and order) from today's game needs to be repeated many times over the next month. Days off should no longer be scheduled during the stretch run
  19. They let Varland pitch past the 5th inning AND more than 80 pitches?!?! I just hope that doesn't get the AAA manager fired!
  20. He has also neither managed the entire pitching staff particularly well, nor had sensical lineups at times (Arraez batting 5th and Beckham at DH are just a few of my favorites from just the last couple games). But, the main reason that it is time to move on is that he doesn't have the natural leadership qualities required to be a great manager. He doesn't appear to change or adapt his approach to best suit the needs of the team at any given time. He also doesn't adjust well on the fly. Again, he seems to be a quality person by all accounts and I think he will be a fantastic bench coach or front office person in the future with his methodical analytic approach. But, he's just not a great manager. He'll find a better role and thrive. There will be no shame in that game!
  21. "....our guys absolutely do things exactly the way I would want to see it done." This just speaks for itself.... I just wanted everyone to appreciate it a second time (Spoiler alert, you may see it again from time to time over the next month)
  22. Arraez batting fifth..... the run of Beckham, Kepler, and Leon striking fear into the opposing pitchers with Cave and Sanchez lurking to strike as pinch hitters..... Well, it looks like we've almost reached terminal velocity and the parachute hasn't opened yet!!!!
  23. "I really didn't like the lack of communication on a really unusual play." (Because it most it was most certainly NOT on my spreadsheet... and I Iet the umpire know that in no uncertain terms ?)
