  1. I would try and get Cueto for less and two years, if possible. Probably a better return in the end. And, who knows, might have some money leftover for a bullpen arm.
  2. Balazovic has to make an appearance in 2023, or else why keep him on the 40-man. Unfortunately he is behind Woods Richhardson, Varland, Winder, Sands and maybe even Dobnak for that guy you call up if you have a double-header. Probably even see Brent Headrick jump ahead of Balazovic. I wonder if they will try Balazovic in the pen if he blows up in St. Paul. (Any reason to have him start the season in Wichita?) Julien and Martin in the same lineup, in St. Paul. Let's see some base-running that could translate well to the Twins going into 2024, especially with a healthy Buxton.
  3. Again, the injury wagon. Who's on it, who is not. Is Polanco winding down his career as a Twin? What is his future status on the team as he is pushed out by younger talent. Be interesting to watch Joe Ryan in 2023. Can he adjust?! When he controls the rhythm of his game, he is an Ace. But when he slows, or gets flustered, watch out.
  4. If the Twins trade Kepler, who plays right? I guess that what spring training is all about. Teams know the Twins have (currently) too many outfielders. What can they actually get for Kepler, compared to his worth to the team. Sadly, barring breakout spring trainings, I would just as soon see Larnach, Celestino and Kiriloff start the season in St. Paul to get back up to speed and worry about Kepler (and maybe Gallo) shining enough to be seasonal trade bait. Of course, we suddenly have a logjam at St. Paul. Wallner is also in the mix and would be nice to play him in the field instead of making him a permanent DH. And is Martin or Lewis an outfielder, or shortstop. Twins, make decisions on players and where you truly want them to play AND succeed. Going forth.
  5. I wouldn't want him for mroe than a season. Someone will offer him a multi-year.
  6. Depth is a plus. Especially if you throw left-handed. He has done well for the Twins in his limited roles. Glad to have him back.
  7. I was...astonished. But Trevor May also got, what, $8m from...OAKLAND! Hell, you could sign starter RICH HILL for $8m and one year. Can't wait to see how the demand market for Fulmer, Hand, Moore and...Wisler will play out. Heck, Joe Smith and Sergio ROmo are still out there (not to mention Alex Colome, Ralph Garza Jr. and, coming off a brilliant season in Mexico, Sam Dyson). So many choices for the bullpen menu. And nothing too filling!
  8. Those three don't even have to be added to the 40-man in the 2023 off-season. All will be given a chance to advance, which is a plus. The prospects I am most concerned about are Jordon Balazovic, Matt Canterino, Blayne Enlow...and in a minor way, Cole Sands and Josh Winder. Time is running out for those five pitchers who may only keep a roster spot if they pitch from the back-of-the-bullpen, but we only need one (or maybe two) if that is the situation.
  9. The Twins do have room for another bench guy (spare infielder) on the roster projection. I'm surprised they couldn't trade Kepler to Toronto for the catcher and the right-handed outfielder that went to the Diamondbacks. I'm sure the Twins could have sweetened the deal with a young pitching prospect. Having the catcher the Jays dealt as the next in line, or perhaps Jefefrs replacement, would've been a big plus. The Blue Jays needed a lefty hitting, defensive outfielder. Kepler ahd two years of control yet. Back to the post. Wonder what it would take to get Escobar back to the Twins?
  10. Let's give him $40m a year for the next three years with opt outs........
  11. And the Twins thought he was expensive in his last arbitration year. Good for Taylor and you get to play on the same team with your brother.
  12. Hey, things could still change and tomorrow announce that Correa has signed a 3-year-deal with the Twins for like $50m a season with opt outs!
  13. We have to find positions and roles for players to play.
  14. The Twins also signed ARMANI SMITH, a corner outfielder with some first abse experience. Right-handed hitter. Only 24 with a bit of pop and some speed. https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=smith-002arm
  15. If the Twins wish to be competitive in the central division, no reason to trade either right now. If they fall out of contention, both should bring back something of value at trade deadline, if they stay healthy, and the Twins would then have to say they are in full rebuild mode.
  16. Good public relations or just blowing smoke? The thing is, if you can offer one guy $300 million, then you better be signing some quality!
  17. They kinda drag a line behind the boat ...........
  18. Yeah, I',m confused about Jair. A catching prospect the Twins should have under a minor league contract, considering their overall depth. But I'm not seeing it as official, compared to the aging guy listed on the Saints roster as an infielder.
  19. The killer is losing Paddack for absically two seasons. He's still young, so that is a positive. The other thing I didn't understand was the Twins sending along money. Basically I saw the Twins as NOT feeling Rogers could be the closer, and that he was too expensive. I was dreaming that it was going to be an even bigger trade, with the Twins including Sano and taking Eric Hosmer (but only part of his contract) and maybe getting Padre catching prospect Luis Campusano in the deal, too. Hosmer might've been a good DH and bench guy, and the Twins would've had their second catcher. I saw mroe value in Sano, as he wasn't injured yet for a full season. Miguel might've loved San Diego and really thrived. The Twins still have Pagan who COULD rebound, be a tradechip, whatever. Rooker is also gone from the Padres. The only downfall for the Twins was having to pay Rogers salary. In a minor way, Rogers might've contributed a few extra wins if he was the Twins closer coming out of the gate. I'm still urious to see what kind of contract he will be signing as a free agent. Trevor May got $7m from the A's after an injury plagued no-nothing season.
  20. OKAY, HE COSTS MORE AND IS A TAD OLDER THAN kEPLER. STRIKES OUT MORE THAN SANO. AND BATS LEFT-HANDED. ALSO MEANS WE HAVE TO DESIGNATE SOMEONE FOR ASSIGNMENT (CONTRERAS, PERHAPS). I'm all for opening the pocketbook. So, we replace Sano and Sanchez skill set at the plate with...Gallo? Who can at least play a position, I guess. Meanwhile, the A's gave Trevor May $7 million to pitch.
  21. I still think the Twins can get Rodon on a five year conract with an opt out after year one and year two. Probably in the $120m range.
  22. Heck, give him six years at $300m. Really screw the salary amrketplace. Correa would still have six more years to do another contract. You would hope he would be a superstar for at least four of those six years. By then, most of the taent you are currently developing will be getting expensive, but you will also have greater revenue.
  23. Well, the Twins did do $105 for 3 years with an opt out. Looks like they were willing to continue that price for up to...9 years!?! Let's spend money mroe wisely. But shows the Twins would not be afraid to spend $30m on the...right...player.
  24. If he can hold the running game and do his best framing techniques, plus not be a total weakness (all or nothing Sanchez) at the plate, the contract is well worth the price. Assuming we can get 120-135 games from him behind the plate in 2023. Hell' I would consider adding Sandy Leon as the back-up for most of the season and have Jeffers take his reps as the starting catcher in St. Paul. Especially if you can keep him behind the plate and working for sure with any pitchers (Woods Richardson, Balazovic, Varland, Sisk) that could be part of the Twins in the future. One year of solid work as a starter and I would be more than happy with more limited service time for the remaining years of his contract.
