Brandon Winokur Made It to Double-A. What's Next?
Rosterman replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Wichta as a team is batting a dismal .221. And the majority of the "good" batters have already advance to St. Paul. Not sure what is going on, as the pitching staff ahs an team era of 5.70 even afetr working in that more than 50 unearned runs have crossed the plate. -
Which Twins Prospects Are Next in Line?
Rosterman replied to Sam Caulder's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Will the Twins give Sabato a major league look to see if he is a keeper? Mendez deserving of a callup? What to do with Gonzalez. The whole "will they walkout" in 2027 means you MIGHT avoid adding anyone to the roster that doesn't need to be... added.- 34 replies

Twins Claim RHP Jack Anderson from Red Sox
Rosterman replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Grabbing guys requiring a 40-man spot. Gotta play them at some point or lose them. They are better than “who” that you have developed as prospects? -
Twins Option Eric Orze to Make Room for Tommy Nance
Rosterman replied to John Bonnes's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
You would think Adams and Funderburk would also be on the bubble (who does Sands replace), except you can only go up-and-down so many times these days. Orza was a potential trade chip if the Twins were sellers, except that now he is worthy of only joining Matt Bowman and others as AAA fodder. -
He is a keeper as long as he produces and as long as he remains cost-effctive. He has two seasons of reasonable arbitration costs as long as he is a regular. Here's a question today... if you could sign him for 3-5 years, would you and what do you think it would take. Here is another question, where does he play. Second base is the open position and seems to be doing great there. No one on the immediate prospects lists to be in that position, assuminng Culpepper isn't fulltime until next season and Houston the season after that and the decision is made if Lee is also a keeper or not.

He becomes a free agent after three more seasons. Should the Twins extend him now?

Twins 2, Yankees 5: You Already Know
Rosterman replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
45,000 fans came out to see the Twins take on the Yankees in New York. Who would've thought. Hey, didn't the Twins let this Headrick guy just walk off the 40-man and get claimed by the Yankees? Aren't you supposed to give players you are developing a chance?- 43 replies

Thank you, Cody, for the wonderful recap of a wonderful Minnesota Twin. I still wonder why Al never made it (yet) into the Twins Hall of Fame. He was the stopper of the sixties. Plus he was so wonderful in the community. He was a yearly fixture on the church father's/sons banquets back then. Plus, I have to say, he was one of those players that always answered a fan who requested an autograph, often with an envelope using his own postage that would include a color photo, a religious tract, and a photocopy of an article or two from his days as a Giant. All signed is his most readable signature. He kept baseball alive in his life by coaching university athletes. He appeaered as a relief ace in 327 games for the Twins, pitching a combined 473 innings, so we often got multiple innings from his aging arm. Teaming with Johnny Klippstein from '64-66 they were an awesome 1-2 punch in the late innings! And for the real oldtimers still here, he was on the diamond for The Minneapolis Millers! Thanks again, Cody!

I'm sure the Twins could trade Joe Ryan for a decent reliever. Right now, looking at any value beyond mid-level prospects blocked by depth in other organizations for ANY Twins player, be it Larnach, Bell, Banda, Rogers, Wallner. The Twins have an abundance of outfielders and I feel that they could basically wipe their current slate clean of Martin Larnach Wallner and replace with Rodriguez, Gonzalez, Roden, Jenkins and not lose current production. They could part ways with Kriedler and maybe even Clemens and replace with Ross and Fedko. I start to wonder what kind of relief arm the Twins could've really signed, considering all the "cash considerations combined" into one salary.
-
Then we should be buying light rail tickets for Culpepper replacing everyone at shortstop, Fedko learning Clemens' job, and Mendez taking the outfield corner and moving Martin to Outman's position, as well as Sabato playing 1st base instead of Bell... while Lewis searches for a spot on the field! Lewis as DH?
-
Ultimately any trade of Buxton means the Twins want to reduce (pocket) payroll rather than be competive in any way. Then, again, you trade Buxton if he ain't gonna play in the field, or, at best, give you 120-130 appearances on the diamond. He will evntually be pushed out of center sooner rather than later, where will he end up, and do the Twins even think about extending him.
-
Can a team acquiring Jeffers sign him to a longer contract? Doubt the Twins would give him a qualifying offer. Would it be wise to offer him (how much) for 3,4,5 years with the option of movin to... first base? Ryan will be able to command $120M+ on his first round of free agency. His worth is that he has one more year for a team to roster him. Hopefully that team would also offer him a longer contract. Of course, the Twins also could have a bullpen selloff again. Banda, Rogers leap out. Sands could be marketed if the Twins are surviving. What do they get in return this round? Would you package Lewis or Wallner, if they don't fit into Twins plans, with another player? You forget to mention Larnach, who was on everyone's "sell" list over the winter.

What Does Royce Lewis Need to Improve at Triple-A?
Rosterman replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Is Royce the second coming of Miguel Sano? A guy without a true solid position? So much potential, but something is... missing? In some ways, Keaschall may be in the same position... a man without a position. Not the hitter you want at first base. Is he a better long-term bet for average and speed than Martin to play one of the corner outfields? He is NOT the longterm second baseman of choice. The complications of developing players, finding best place for them to play because of their bat or their glove, and hoping you can find long-term solutions. Right now, Royce may be doomed to having great numbers in the minors that might increase his worth. The longer he stays down, the less he gets in arbitration for 2026. But what to do. Will he be bumped off third by Lee or Culpepper, especially if and when Houston comes onboard. -
Well, he could job into the Kody Clemens roster spot next season. Especially if he would egt a look. Right-handed and cheaper/ Play the same positions. I'm curious about his base-stealing skills, and how well he can backup centerfield. Sometimes you wonder why not just give guys a good chance that you have had on a develoopment path all these seasons rather than keep going to the waiver wire or signing minor league free agents.

Raya needs time to adjust to the new role. I think he COULD do it. But he needs to be told that he needs to be effective for 3-5 batters. And has to follow a pitch plan. Klien should still be considered a back-end starter. He's 7th right now, unless Rojas reenters rotation plans bigtime. I'm glad Rojas is getting some innings in the majors. He shoud learn what he can't get away with and then go and work hard on it at AAA. Funderburk will be back. Culpepper is best for the bullpen. Like Klien, he would quickly be passed by guys at Cedar Rapids in the pecking order for future rotation spots. So why not learn to dominate now. I'm glad he is throwing at AAA. Rozek is an aging rookie that should get a look. He's a lefty, damnit. He has to be soooo hungry. That should make him try extra hard if he gets his major league cup-of-coffee. The Twins need to find 26-man spots when Abel, Bradley, Sands, Acton, Lawyerson return. So who goes from the mix. Will Bowman get a last shot? Can the Twins keep one swing 40-man roster spot open? Tune in tomorrow!

Will they give SWR time to jell in a bullpen role. You can't send him down to the minors. It is a change. It could take all this season to adapt with disasterous results. But I always say there is room in the bullpen for a guy to pitch in blowout games to save a bullpen. Just like you can afford to carry one guy playing regularly hitting below the Mendoza-line, as someone has to make 27 outs in a lineup. And hopefully that guy is batting last. But besides Wallner, the Twins also have Lewis stinkin' up the plate, Outman being the ultimate guy set as late-inning play in center or a pinch runner. Plus the $15m tandem of Bell & Caratini flaying away and Clemens and Keaschall playing like bench guys you carry just to give them experience, although one could be replaced easily next season by a minor league guy (Fedko) and the other could probably use a tune-up at AAA as well as a decision made on where to play the guy longer term than this season. Still waiting to see what happens if and when the Twins need to add Abel, Bradley, Sands, Lawyerson, Acton into the pitching mix, where would Matthews go in this situation, and will Rojas return to St. Paul to be groomed as a rotation arm. When you look at the pen... Garcia, Topa, Banda easily have no busness of hanging arpound, Morris (like Adams) can go back and try harder at AAA in a decided role (long or short relief). And Funderburk still has to stay in the mix.
-
Picturing Culpeper at third base when fast-tracked Houston is added to infield. Question is where tom play Lee, and Keaschall. Lee could be an expensive backup. Not sure Keaschall is the bat you want at first, depending on the results of Jenkins and Rodriguez. Lewis needs to do soemthing if he wants to stayt even for consideration in the picture for another season, let alone two.

Mets 3, Twins 2: A Fun Night, a Tough Loss
Rosterman replied to Sherry Cerny's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Wondering about the decision to throw three different lefties into a game. especially back-to-back to start the game. Rojas goes back to St. Paul to work on challenging hitters. Conrad did okay on the biggest stage in baseball. Can't wait for his next start.- 68 replies
