Mets 3, Twins 2: A Fun Night, a Tough Loss
Rosterman replied to Sherry Cerny's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Wondering about the decision to throw three different lefties into a game. especially back-to-back to start the game. Rojas goes back to St. Paul to work on challenging hitters. Conrad did okay on the biggest stage in baseball. Can't wait for his next start.- 15 replies

The thing is the Twins still play is a pretty weak division, and if Job #1 is to win (or place) in your division, you have to realize thatn just spending, p[erhaps, a tad more on some quality would put you closer to the top, baring injuries. $2 beers are nice for a Happy Hour before a Twins game, but you still have to (a) find parking (b) take the light rail. The Twins have at least 20 players on their 40-man that will be contributing to the team as players in 2027. Most all with promise of multiple year tenures with the team, and another five beyond that on the cusp. So internatlly, the team looks good... FOR THE FUTURE.

Dodging the Curveball of Commitment
Rosterman replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Target Field was going to allow the Twins to keep their own pending free agent players. You would like to think it would also be spent to award players who look like potential franchise folks, with both sides giving a little. Hey, it worked with Buxton. The Twins got decent return of Span and Polanco.- 16 replies

Larnach is being given an opportunity to become a rtade piece, or to continue to rise in his own pay expectations... basically becoming the new Jim Thome, someone who can DH or come off the bench. Maybe play in the field if necessary. By being exclusively a DH, he is part of a logjam if you want to give at bats to others. But it is up to him to make the most of the opportunbity the Twins have given him for 2026.

Weather, school happening, yet the Saints attendance has been absolute dismal. This from a team that for years in the horible (yet fun) Midway Stadium never had an emptespecially when talking bullpen).y seat. There is still a lot of fodder on the Saints roster that should be disappearing soon, too many minor elague free agents. But, yes, a core of talented guys redy to step up... especially when you look at the current Twins roster and there is a good chance that 15 PLAYERS currently on the Traget Field will have no business being there come 2027. A team seldom advances more than 2-3-4 prospects each year into fulltime slots (maybe add a couple of parttimers, especially bullpen arms). Now the question is who comes up mid-season and who definitely comes up come September to egt an advance taste. And what will the Twins do for 2027. Tom Pohlad says our current team is competitive. Well, maybe. But a lot of placesetters are here. But there will be growing pains with prospects on the major league level. With the fun "Ushertainers" and decent food, and some solid bats and promising rotation arms pitching 3-4 innings, the Saints should be the game to watch. Now the next question, who will advance from AA or A ball, also, to the Saints?

Will Tristan Gray Take (Part of) Brooks Lee's Job?
Rosterman replied to rstuedem945's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Sad to say both are placetters. Only reason NOT to play Lee as a regular is to keep his arbitration salary low. Sadly Lee will be the bench guy once CUlpepper and nayone else materializes, and then maybe only for a season until he becomes (a) two expensive or (b) replacable. If Lee can show some production at the plate, he also becomes viable trade bait, due to his age. But not counting on him becoming gold in a mine full of lead. Gray, Arcia, Kriedler are all guys to replace each other as time goes on. Which speaks ill of the Twins. Especially when they feel they have to find at bats for Clemens with Caratini and Larnach also needed reps at DH. Almsot wish the Twins ahd done total rebuild with Sabato amongst others (Mendez) getting playing time at first base. I wish they hadn't traded Eeles for Jackson. Maybe he would've been a spark plug bench bat and base runner. Still trying to figrue out the logjam in the outfield. I hate to see players destroy their career playing in AAA ball (Gonzalez, Roden, a host of 4th outfielder candidates between AA and AAA). In the end, the Twins will win or lose depending on the strength of their rotation and bullpen, which means the offense needs to score runs, move runners, not strikeout - let along catch and throw the ball. -

In some ways, the playing lineup looks mroe exciting to watch than the one that will be at Target Field. Almost wish they had just rostered another relief arm and let Abel start in St. Paul. I do hope they will allow 3-4 arms go upwards towards 100 pitches as the month turns into May. Yes, John and Conrad could both become multi-inning relief pitchers, at best. But would like to see the Twins develop potential repalcements for 2027.

The Twins still have two unused pitchers in their pen after four days and three games. If they were starting the season with a 4-man rotation, let Abel start at St. Paul. Watching him last year coming into a game in a relief situation didn't work. After letting him start in spring, why make him come in now. Clemens at lead off second game in a row. Let's give it to Outman and Martin, see what can happen. I admire the Twins being agressive in their baserunning, as now is the time that pitrchers are a little less sure to the plate and catchers are not in their grove, not to mention most fielders. You win some, but the Twins lost bigtime today on the base paths. I'm not sure the secret to lineup construction, but the first three games have shown too many double plays, leaving runners stranded, or not moving runners properly. Happily everyone now has gotten time on the field (except two bullpen arms).

, I think the Twins were going after Rojas more than Roden. As for Outman, the Twins could take the hit on him in the Dodgers trade, as it doesn't look like Stewart is not contributing. But, yes, the question is Larnach. No one wanted him, sadly, and he ahs just become a cog in the Twins plans. Unless he can have a dynamite April into May and someone needs a left-handed bat. Rodriguez (soon to be out of options) and Gonzalez should be up after the trade deadline. Jenkins not far behind. Martin will hopefully offer some speed. Culpepper will move Lee to the bench reserve until Brooks becomes too expensive in arbitration. With more than 100 former Twin players/prospects in Spring camps, it is amazing that the Twins 40-man roster easily has 10 players still on it that would doubtfully break camp with any other team in the leagues.

Is Tristan Gray the guy (instead of Arcia). They really have only one possible roster opening if they have to pass Jackson thru waivers. And that looks like the addition of a non-roster relief pitcher.

You also want, for the first three guys in the batting order, the fellows that DESERVE to get five at-bats in a game. At the back of the order you want the guys who you don't love seeing at bat, or can be pinch-hit for if you need to keep an inning alive (assuming you have a bench) so the top of the order gets a chance for continued production at the plate.

Is a "proven veteran" looking for a comeback worth more to you than a prospect who might get battered coming up to the majors for the first time? And the dreaded "need a spot on the 40-man, who does the guy replace." Both Liam and Andrew will be starting their journey back to the majors on some minor league roster still this year. The Twins seem to have NOT even offered that opportunity, although there is still a possibility. There is no shortage of BAD pitchers looking for a chance to shine, and how much "road to shining" can a team afford is the question. And if I were the Twins, I would be fielding offers on any/all of their outfielders if any of them show an ounce of decency on tthe field or at the plate. Wallner, Larnach, Outman, Roden, even Martin all will be easily repalced during the season, or by the off-season. Maybe one can stay as the distant 5th outfielder who can also DH.
-
The problem is that the Twins really don't have more than one open 40-man roster spot, for sure. Of course, we can all name 3-4 guys that should be jettisoned. But they won't be.

Minnesota Twins 2026 Position Analysis: Shortstop
Rosterman replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
A shortstop is usually made better by the second and third basemen around him. Probably NOT the case with the Twins, as one fears for the defense, overall,g the last couple of years of being thrust into the majors, shuffled around from position to position, and learning on the job. of the entire infield. If Lee is better suited for third or second himself, is he a better choice than Lewis of Keaschall at the moment? If so, why not play him at either of those positions, and the Twins then needed to egt a solid field first guy at short in the off-season, which they didn't. Some of us have argued that Lee needed more seasoning, at least half-a-season, at AAA during any of the past two seasons, insted of learning on the job and shuffling around the diamond on a daily basis. Right now, does he pan out best as the space infielder/bench guy, who may quickly become too expensive because he played two much the past couple (and this) season as a... regular? Is Lee another NOT owning a position guy with less than adequate bat skills that the best the Twins can do is hope for a breakout season that will give him some trade value, or he contributes to a team that is... just playing ball and hoping no one notices (or cares) as long as a budget is met and the game is played. Like the crowded outfield, we have to ask how many of Wallner, Larnach, Lewis, Lee, Outman, Clemens whatever will be on the team come 2027, and if not then, why are they here now.- 15 replies

Sadly Martin could start at St. Paul (which might be best if he isn't going to play more often than not in the majors). He ahs an option. The Twins will have to clear roster spots if they add some relief names being bandied about. Of course, Festa could go on a loooooong injury trek, which won't keep him from working out in Ft. Myers if he does get better earlier than 3 months. I so would rather see the BEST 26 players come north. The Twins could still fluff some trades of Larnach/Wallner, a bench guy, a rotation arm... if someone comes calling and offers a top-flight package.
