  1. Except that Cano also had terrible control in the minors. Is the shuttle less than perfect? Of course. But it's silly to me to think a professional athlete, used to travel since their teenage years (or earlier) who is finally getting their big break, is going to be ineffective because they know they might be sent back to the minors. There's an easy alternative to that and they know it: perform. If a player can't handle the AAAA back and forth (clearly allowed in the contract they signed) then I have trouble believing they can handle the other mental rigors of MLB either.
  2. I see, repeatedly, on their site that I can't bring in a laptop bag. But can I bring a laptop? (For after the game, just to clarify.) Apparently they have lockers, but I'm not sure I want to go that route.
  3. I've always liked Robertson as a pitcher, but I wouldn't pay him that with his injury history. Trade deadline is where you acquire bullpen arms. It's such a fickle role that you strike for who is hot now and not on a long-term contract. Plus they're usually available for lesser prospects. But I appreciate the angle of this article for sure. Asking "what would have happened" is pointless. Show us what is happening.
  4. Love seeing Varland deal at home. It feels like the Twins have had a lot of successful homegrown stories.
  5. Hope they leave him there long to actually reset. They brought Alcala back way too fast imo.
  6. Is it accurate to say they "dumped" him though? They traded him for other assets. Then SD traded him. Then KC dumped him. If the Twins had resigned him again in the offseason all the commentary would have been "getting the band back together/we have too many corner outfielders already." Nobody is saying they're happy that Rooker isn't a Twin. They're saying they're happy that his career seems to finally be working out for him. It's a tough business. If you're mad, imagine how they must feel in KC.
  7. Nah, by then TD will be calling for Correa to be traded because there's too much depth again.
  8. Castro's role is backup SS. Farmer takes that when he's back. I'd say it comes down to the coaches. If they think Miranda's struggles can only be overcome at the MLB level, we get to watch him face that challenge. If he just needs a reset, AAA makes sense.
  9. Radio said that AK needs 20 days in AAA to use an option, or something like that. So I suspect we'll see a move around then. This will work itself out. I have little worry that they "need" to make a trade, unless Kepler is a clubhouse nightmare (and we've never heard anything suggesting that). The best move, if health allows, is Buxton at CF, Taylor to the bench. Then AK and Gallo split 1B/DH. But that decision is outside of my pay grade. Castro to AAA. I also wouldn't be shocked to see Larnach sent to AAA. Larnach and AK have basically been in a 3-way rotation between AAA/MLB/IL for the past 3 years, with whoever is hot and healthy getting the MLB at bats.
  10. I wonder if one injury is causing the other (overcompensation). Fingers crossed that it's that it's relatively short-term.
  11. I wouldn't place much weight to the court of comments sections and message boards. That's a (loud) fraction of the general population. Andrew Yang was a population presidential candidate, according to Twitter, after all. Because, as you nailed it:
  12. And in 12 months we'll be having this same discussion about Paddack. It seems to come with this surgery. But most players do eventually come back to their previous levels, unless they're a Liriano-type where it was (likely) his delivery that caused both his success and initial injury.
  13. Even Joe Nathan lost the closer's role after TJ. Recovery takes time. And it's about more than joints and muscles and conditioning. That said, Maeda has left every game with the trainer, to paraphrase the radio team. That's a problem. I think it's logical to IL him, then let him rebuild with shorter appearances. They have the depth now. Use it.
  14. Moran has had a few chances to earn his spot now, and he's not taking advantage.
  15. Good point. If Farmer had just trained harder, that ball would have bounced off his face for a double.
  16. Thanks for looking it up. I swear they keep changing it or...I'm just getting old. Or both.
  17. I thought they moved it back to a 15-day DL for non-concussions. Or is it back to 10? (Sigh. MLB rules didn't used to change every year.)
  18. I'd argue that you have to be on the 40-roster to be a shuttle candidate. Otherwise, you're probably one-and-done.
  19. Moran and some others are questionable contributors at this time, but if they keep getting "quality starts" the bullpen sorts itself out and you can use relievers in their best roles. It's short starts and blowouts that throw it all off-cycle.
  20. Based on the headline, it seems you encourage the negativity.
  21. Aren't rotations and timesharing pretty standard on A-ball rosters?
  22. Even if Gallo crashes back to earth...he's basically Sano with + defense. I'm curious to see how this year goes.
