  1. Lots of obsession with "batting champion" as a phrase. Arraez is great. But he hit .314. That's not exactly Puckett/Mauer/Carew territory.
  2. I generally agree, except for #2. The days of carrying using a roster slot on a designated long reliever are over. I think they're more likely to start with a 6-person rotation and then drop to 5 at the inevitable injury, just like they did last year.
  3. Clearly you don't live in MN. 😁
  4. Or they needed that "veteran clubhouse presence" and thought Correa was off the table. I view vets at that stage of their career more as a clubhouse role than a position on the field. Yes, I grew up in the DH era, haha.
  5. I would argue that all the prospects need healthy seasons ?
  6. If Kirilloff or Larnach can take the next step, this lineup looks solid. As it stands, I'm iffy about the OF and I'd like more reliable pitching depth. Lewis as a replacement if the OF is struggling mid-season adds a little promise.
  7. If they think there's a huge gap in the clubhouse, aka the Nelson Cruz or Correa angle: possibly maybe. But I still don't see a fit. And both of the others I named were full-time players who were still above league average. I like McCutchen as a player but it wouldn't move me in any way unless there's a big OF 40-roster shakeup in the works.
  8. This FO (who I don't mind, unlike most posters here), seems to think they can fix control problems. Lots of AAAA relievers picked up and later let go with similar issues. Speaking of...are the Twins sticking with Wes Johnson's replacement permanently?
  9. But it's a great way for SF to stick it to LAD.
  10. He's already "locked up." That's the definition of team control. There are only a handful of pitchers I'd sign for more than 5 years. Wait and see.
  11. I saw that reply coming. But there's gotta be a reason they aren't putting him at RF, 1B, 3B or C. Especially with all the OF injuries this year.
  12. As I've said elsewhere, I don't care much for Kepler. But Gordon has played 3 innings in RF in his career. He is not a right fielder.
  13. That's not remotely the job of the manager. Maybe the marketing department...
  14. He's hot at the right time and that's great. I do think he's a valuable utility player but I don't expect a lot more. Especially if he struggles in IF positions. I hope he proves me wrong. No such thing as too many players and he's fun to watch too.
  15. I'm not a Kepler fan. But I don't think Gordon has the arm for RF. But if Kirillof and Larnach are health and Celestino can be consistent, then Kepler is definitely expendable. But, given performance, why would anybody be lining up to trade for Kepler this offseason anyway? (which is digressing off topic a bit...)
  16. How does Gordon look, defensively, at 2B? He's an emergency SS only, but if he can play any infield reliably his value increases a lot.
  17. Reported for violation. I'm pretty sure you aren't allowed to be positive on TD. /s
  18. lol. The team won 73 games in 2021 and will match that total in early August this year. They are, at worst, progressing from last to third place in a single year. Rocco's job is secure unless he goes on some kind of Aaron Rogers or Charlie Sheen like self-destructive rampage.
  19. Considering it's a minor league deal, not much. But if the team keeps playing so many extra innings games, a player like Hamilton could be a real difference maker as a designated runner in the 10th. #ihatethatrulesomuch
  20. Half of this game recap is about the two of them standing on base and nobody else driving them in. It's a team game. And it takes a team to lose too. (Yes, both could be playing better.)
  21. There is zero reason, ever, to sign a long-term deal with a player in their pre-arbitration years. They're already locked in for cheap. The only pros are that you might save some money if they don't regress or get injured., and that you build some goodwill with the player. The billionaire owners can afford spending a little more on a proven commodity and there are other ways to keep players happy. Plus, I can only assume many players who lock into these deals regret them years later when they see their market value rise. So it's no guarantee of happiness (if there is such a thing, haha). One could argue that these deals might increase strife. It's pretty common for a player to be upset when a team changes course, rebuilds, hires a new front office, etc, and then they demand a trade or drag others down with them.
