  1. Save it for Rule V. Deadline trades need to be win-now moves, not wild cards. There are dozens of bullpen upgrades available via midseason rentals and those can usually be acquired for fringe prospects (e.g. Romo, Fuentes, even the Dyson trade).
  2. I don't see it happening. Maybe I'm thinking of their previous regime, but it seems like OAK always asks for the moon in return on trades. That, and I'm not personally convinced his past two seasons mean he's the real deal.
  3. The Twins are in first place because they have depth.

    Sano Situation

A month ago I would've thought sending Celestino down was crazy, but I could see it now, depending on general OF health. And I agree that a position player for pitcher swap is unlikely. But about half the bullpen could be optioned/outrighted without much of a hit to roster quality overall.
  5. This wasn't a response to your post, which I think was done tastefully.
  6. Cool, we're back to calling players who play through injuries "coddled" and implying they aren't really hurt. It's like Joe Mauer all over again.
  7. This certainly clears space on the 40 roster. Other than Lewis and Larnach, is anybody left in AA/AAA? I think some of these moves make sense, but not all combined.
  8. No Polanco love? I also think this concept involves players who came up through the system together at (more or less) the same time.
  9. I just realized while reading this thread that the DH will now play every day in the World Series. Which is a significant change for building postseason rosters.
  10. I'm honestly indifferent about bringing him back. But a first place team should be playing to win now, not making sure their utility player gets more ABs. And, with Rocco's rest cycle, everybody will get their ABs...
  11. Any pitcher who is not a pending free agent will likely cost something close to what the Twins got for Berries. Just noting that overlooked detail. It's not a dealbreaker for me, but choose carefully and few of these pitchers move the needle that much.
  12. Now can we stop using the term "closer" for this team? He gets the majority of save opportunities, but he is not the closer (a specialized role that only appears to close tight games). He is used in innings 6-8 far too often for this term to apply.
  13. He's hit/miss -- take that as literally as you want. On his good days he's great and efficient. On his bad days he doesn't know where his pitches are going. There doesn't seem to be an in between, so I'll armchair coach and say something must be going on with mechanics.
  14. It seems Cruz would actually fill that role. But I think you're proposing some type of Sano/Larnach/Miranda/Arraez/Garlick rotation at DH (in a dream scenario where the team is mostly healthy).
  15. In other words, I view a Cruz addition in 2022 as a Phil Nevin or Don Baylor equivalent. If you can improve a roster spot at low risk, sure. But he's too inconsistent at his current age to give up anything of value.
  16. I'm not opposed as a depth piece, playing 50/60% of the time instead of the Jeffers/Sanchez DH rotation at present. But not if he has a player option for year 2. And not if he costs more than a fringe prospect. Would the Nationals take Sano for him? It would be the same roster spot from MIN most likely and that gives a bad team a player who might be able to give them something next year (and they can opt out if not).
  17. I think it's way too early to be praising Lewis for his versatility. As others have said too, I don't think Gordon is comparable to Lewis. Other than the internet decided that Lewis could be a superutility player for a year while waiting for SS to open. And then Lewis got hurt, immediately, while playingan unfamiliar position. Gordon's role is closer to what Marwin or Adrianza served.
  18. As others have said, he's not on the 40-roster, so shy of a player going on the 60-day IL, I don't see him in the bigs this year.
  19. FWIW, I appreciate a trade proposal that offers too much value for once, instead of trading the Duffey, Duensing, Gordon and maybe Happ.
  20. If you meant "Something along the lines of Trevor Larnach, Austin Martin, Josh Winder OR Jordan Balazovic could start the conversation and get the Diamondbacks interested in a potential deal with the Twins," I might entertain this offer. But, given the UCL, probably still not.
  21. Serious question: is it called "head coach" in college ball?
  22. Pro sports are fascinating. We're fine with an employer literally trading or demoting employees to different organizations and locations, but if they make their own career decisions we get upset.
