  1. I don't think I'd ever extend a reliever unless their name was Rivera. They're just too volatile and only grow more expensive. If he's willing to take a below market contract based on his recent injuries, I suppose I'd listen.
  2. Countdown until the "too many SS" threads begin...
  3. If he plays well enough, they'll find AB for him. Never just hand a prospect a starting job. Make them work for it.
  4. I don't really think it's worth considering Correa, but I like the storyline if the Twins did have the first 2 picks of that draft on the same time.
  5. Would be fascinating if he'd make the Hall and Mauer didn't. Which I would assume because of a ring and a bigger market. But he won't.
  6. Flame throwers on the waiver wire tend to have no control.
  7. I'd argue that SS, or OF, are their deepest positions in the minors. I'm fine with a short-term solution. And, while unpopular, I'm also fine with Polanco as that short-term solution. I'm more concerned about a Plan B at catcher. Jeffers is young and could go either way. Not sold on Garver's long-term success. And he had a gruesome injury last year (which can't help). There are a million stopgaps at SS. There are only AAAA level stopgaps at C.
  8. I get it. But the truth is that they need both quality and quantity. And $4m for a starting pitcher is basically Jake Cave money. Meaning...he could be gone tomorrow. Is it a glamorous signing? No. Is it a bad signing? Also no.
  9. 14 years? It felt like 5. In his prime he was tops in the league. That's what I care about. HOF is just a marketing tool.
  10. A team with like 50 openings for pitchers signed one for cheap. I don't really see the rub here. You want them to sign 50 Verlanders?
  11. What does Park/Korea have to do with this post?
  12. You might have talked me out of it, just by saying he's worth less than Nolasco (10 years ago) on the open market.
  13. I think Pineda may resign. I also think counting on his to pitch 160 IP is unrealistic. Maybe 80-120.
  14. Except neither Perkins nor Duffey went to the bullpen in year 2. It took years and riding the AAA shuttle first before they made the move.
  15. Has Pineda ever pitched a full season? He's a fine pitcher when healthy, but he's not an arm you can rely on. He's a bonus.
  16. Andrew Albers is still with the Twins based on his first 2 games.
  17. I don't have much faith in him, but the price is right when weighing cost/reward.
  18. I also don't think digital cards make much sense. But I think MLB needs something for new tech that appeals to the audience the way that cards once did. Few people born after 2000 care about physical collections. As a kid, here's what I liked about cards: - collecting - trivia/stats - pictures - bonding with friends You can get stats/trivia and pictures everywhere now. But I see a void now for the bonding/community aspect, as well as a modern form of collection. I'm not saying cards should go digital -- simply changing the medium and not the product is a recipe for failure. But something new that creates that enthusiasm.
  19. Is Thorpe even a consideration at this point?
  20. It would be great if Ober can stick around, but I've also heard the same thing about Scott Diamond, Randy Dobnak and countless others who had a good year seemingly out-of-nowhere.
  21. Cards make very little sense in a digital era. Develop an app that appeals to the 8-14 age range.
  22. Oh, wow. Missed that. Felt like it was weird and confusing, but also Manfred has to change everything, I suppose.
  23. And, unless I'm mistaken here, the Twins used Cuddyer's supplemental pick on Berrios.
