  1. Terrible news for Lewis. In business speak, this means one more year 'til he has to be on the 40-man.
  2. While I've made the same "he started in the playoffs means they think he's ready" argument, sadly I don't even buy it myself. I think he started in the playoffs because they were desperate and hoped to catch lightning in a bottle. And it depresses me. It's very off-topic, but I want the team to play playoff baseball the same way they play in the season. Don't get cute and overthink every single decision. Do what has worked. I think starting Kirilloff was along the same lines as using all 3 catchers in game 1 and pulling Maeda so early: making moves for the sake of making moves.
  3. Enjoy baseball this year, because I have I expect a work stoppage of some sort with all the CBA ugliness to come.
  4. He has 1300 career AB. I think he's still adjusting his approach as pitchers adjust to his. The pull rate is unsustainable, but I don't view it as permanent unless he has a Barry Bonds-type muscular change in the next few years.
  5. Are you referring to the trades that helped build the farm system rankings that this post is partially touting?
  6. Except the Twins are a mid-market team, which makes the KC analogy a little inaccurate. The TC media market ranks in the middle and of the pack and Target Field helps offset some of the challenges that faced the previous front office. Either way, nobody can compete with LAD or NYY the way the current system is set up. I should clarify: nobody can compete spending-wise. But as NYM has shown for decades, and I suspect SD will show soon, most of the time you can't buy a championship. It's more complicated that just payroll. But of course a semi-equal payroll is helpful for equity.
  7. No such thing as too many good players.
  8. Thielbar is a good story. But I don't think he's a lock.
  9. I think the Twins will have 8 regular starters and then a rotation for the 9th, mostly in LF but probably a lot of days off for Donaldson too. 2B will be interesting, as Polanco has (going off memory and I may be wrong) started the most games of the position players the past couple years. But I think they want Arraez playing 5 days/week. Is Polanco the backup SS or is this a permanent change like Sano?
  10. A violent deliver and a plus-slider. I hope he can stay healthy.
  11. I don't know how significant his injuries have been, but I feel like Cron deserves an MLB contract.
  12. I'd rather have him than Martin Perez. I'd rather have Rich Hill than Shoemaker. Seems to be a pattern in signing 5th starters. Not opposed by any means, as he's essentially going to be in and out of the 5th spot and the IL, rotating with Dobnak, Thorpe, and a couple of surprises.
  13. It depends if those fly balls turn into outs vs doubles to truly see the impact. The Kepler data is interesting. Polanco seems obvious.
  14. Always enjoy this series, especially the collaborative approach.
  15. I wonder is Wisler would have been cheaper and just as good. Rodriguez is intriguing though, especially if it's a fire sale.
  16. And Rooker was technically getting service time while on the DL, though a relatively minor difference. Kirilloff is only on the roster if he's playing 6 days per week. I think they might give Rooker a bench spot given his age and career projection. Personally I think Cruz took that roster spot, as Rooker is pretty bat-first for a bench role.
  17. I expect Arraez on Opening Day and Kirilloff as the "regular" LF. As others have said, it's possible they start with a Cave platoon of some fashion and buy more time with Kirilloff. My 2021 goal is to learn to spell Kirilloff's name correctly.
  18. It says a lot about service time manipulation in MLB if the Twins can justify starting Kirilloff in a deciding playoff game but not Opening Day.
  19. Is Donaldson 100%? I haven't heard any offseason news on his health.
  20. Kind of on the Chalmers talk earlier, I'd argue that any minor league SP could be an MLB RP this year if they get the call-up. If teams stick to watching young arms' workload after no minor league action in 2020, there will definitely be a lot of inning limits.
  21. I may remember it wrong, but they haven't really carried a long reliever in the current FO so far. I think they like to have a stable of 2-3 6th starters ready in AAA rather than use the spot every day.
  22. Based on the Maeda trade and the failed Dozier negotiations a few years ago, I think they'll ask a lot. Not saying no to any of these ideas (it's a similar scenario to how we got Maeda), but I think it will cost a lot. *Other than Price, who they'll probably sell. And I'm intrigued how he'd do in a small market environment. He's performed everywhere, but doesn't seem to love the Boston/LA media spotlight.
  23. Could be any of the waiver wire claims. I don't think it will be Tortuga. He has another full year of options, the FO loves versatility and he was used as a pinch-hitter in a playoff game, which is a sign that at least Rocco likes him.
  24. The MLB transaction rules never cease to amaze me.
