    Exactly. If he's willing to listen, engage. Otherwise we're talking Mauer 2009 when you have to pay max year. (And Mauer was also "always hurt" prior to that contract.)

    I'm curious what BOS is up to. Hernandez + Gonzalez + Santana is a lot of utility. I bet one of the latter two doesn't make the Opening Day roster.

    When your body is your workplace tool, your body is likely to suffer the consequences. In an inhuman, business-first persepctive, this means one more year before they put prospects on the 40-man.

    Sano with Donaldson giving him a run. Sano has looked good every-other year, so I'm hoping this is the year (as I say...every other year).

    Completely off-topic, other than putting together the 1-9 spots. How fast/slow is Simmons? I'd like him at 9 with Buxton at 8. Unless he'll clog the bases ahead of Buxton. As for leadoff, I expect a platoon of sorts between Kepler and Arraez, based on Rocco's previous usage.

    I'm good with 25-27. But I think more off-days and a 154 game schedule would solve more of the games issues. Simply put, they aren't going to use prospects on the bench. More roster slots means more RP. It might help some service time issues and even preserve some careers but it won't improve the underlying quality.

    While Rooker performed well in a small sample last year, this isn't exactly a Favre/Rodgers situation.

    If Odo signs in PHI, I guess it's the ultimate test if he's learned how to reduce his HR ratio. I think he's a really good pitcher. But I also don't think that's a good stadium for him.

    Exactly. The exact reason isn't confirmed, but travel isn't exactly easy these days. And international, visa-related travel wasn't easy to begin with. And a new presidential administration with changing policies at the same time. Perfect storm.

    Let's hope we have a new #1 next year because he graduated. Technically I don't think he has his first MLB hit because post-season stats don't count, right?

    It's really bizarre that a human being can be traded. No way I'd take a job with that requirement. I love the human side of the game too, so I appreciate this comment, even if I still think the right "business move" was trading those players. Okay, not Lynn. He seemed more like he treated the Twins that way, imho.

    While I've made the same "he started in the playoffs means they think he's ready" argument, sadly I don't even buy it myself. I think he started in the playoffs because they were desperate and hoped to catch lightning in a bottle. And it depresses me. It's very off-topic, but I want the team to play playoff baseball the same way they play in the season. Don't get cute and overthink every single decision. Do what has worked. I think starting Kirilloff was along the same lines as using all 3 catchers in game 1 and pulling Maeda so early: making moves for the sake of making moves.

    Enjoy baseball this year, because I have I expect a work stoppage of some sort with all the CBA ugliness to come.

    He has 1300 career AB. I think he's still adjusting his approach as pitchers adjust to his. The pull rate is unsustainable, but I don't view it as permanent unless he has a Barry Bonds-type muscular change in the next few years.

    Are you referring to the trades that helped build the farm system rankings that this post is partially touting?

    Except the Twins are a mid-market team, which makes the KC analogy a little inaccurate. The TC media market ranks in the middle and of the pack and Target Field helps offset some of the challenges that faced the previous front office. Either way, nobody can compete with LAD or NYY the way the current system is set up. I should clarify: nobody can compete spending-wise. But as NYM has shown for decades, and I suspect SD will show soon, most of the time you can't buy a championship. It's more complicated that just payroll. But of course a semi-equal payroll is helpful for equity.
