    I don't think the FO is basing anything on a "late season surge." Polanco has more than proven who he is (when healthy) as a MLB player. Whatever they do, they're basing it on his physical and their ongoing assessment, not the last 6 weeks of the 2023 season.

    I'd hardly call this a crowded 28-person roster. There are 2-3 expendable names that pop to mind with barely any thought.

    I'm far more concerned about the back half of the bullpen than I am who will be the 5th outfielder on a playoff roster.

    Straight to hyperbole. Why should I make up a scenario to "save you from ruin"? Do you want Vasquez at 2B in a meaningful game? That's a recent example of players out of position. It happens all the time. Of course you want capable defenders as backups...Just in case. There is a difference between "capable and needle-moving," yes. But Gallo is a backup in pretty much every scenario discussed here. His impact is relevant but minor. I'd understand the debate if his roster presence was blocking a big tool prospect. But it's not. I think you can make the case for Stephenson on the postseason roster for speed/defense. But even then, I think they drop a pitcher and keep both players mentioned. And neither of those players gets more than a few AB.

    What if there's an injury in the 2nd inning? Do you really want a makeshift defensive lineup for a whole postseason game? You may as well put Joe Webb at QB.

    Did I miss the official report that he's been "shut down"? (I mean, this article title suggests that 2023 is over and it certainly wouldn't be just a clickbait headline.) And in response to several other posters, the reason he was not put on IL is because is not injured. You can't just make up injuries, even if it seems that way to us sometimes.

    If the FO believes he was dogged by injuries this year, I'd guess he's back for 2024 in a prove-it way. As the last few years have shown, anybody on the 40 will get some MLB at bats. Make the most of it. 1B is a revolving door unless Kiriloff manages to stay healthy. If they think 2023 wasn't about health, I think Miranda is traded as a reclamation project, similar to Lopez with FL, maybe getting a low ball prospect in return.

    The clock is ticking for rehab opportunities with the shorter MiLB season. Fingers crossed, but given Stewart's injury history, I think he'll be lucky to pitch in MLB again. I hope he proves me wrong.

    So Floro is essentially Logan Forsythe as a Twin. I hope he can be a fair 6th inning pitcher for the next month, then he's just Twins trivia... I can't imagine he'll make a post-season roster if they make it there.

    What is Floro's contract status? If he's arb eligible he's gone at the end of the year anyway, so a bounceback doesn't help the Twins any.

    It sounds like few of the 90+ HBPs are to wrists, hands, and shins, which seem to cause the IL-type injuries.

    But will they want to pay them? CLE isn't exactly known for adding payroll in-season.

    This FO is hardly loyal to their waiver wire pickups. The majority don't ever put on a uniform before being re-waived.

    Is it just me, or is every Lewis HR a line drive?

    Harper and AJ, though, were nowhere near Mauer's defensive ability. No idea how Battey and Wynegar were on defense. Before my time. I do agree that he doesn't stand a chance at HOF consideration unless they "ignore" the 1B years. Which won't happen with the current HOF decision makers, but maybe when a younger generation with a better understanding of brain injuries slowly takes over.

    Bad news for him and I don't want to make light of his pain. Now the but... That's why you don't give gigantic, long-term contracts to pitchers (and without fact checking, I feel there's some data out there about pitchers with experience in Japanese league). Way too big a risk. Imagine the hubbub if this wasn't diagnosed until next April in Spring Training on a new team.

    I had the same thoughts on seeing that stat. Then I thought about how, if DET were a contender, he'd be out of a job right now. Strange league sometimes.

    While true, that's more of a focus on players' careers than one-off playoff series. I guess I haven't studied playoff rosters the last few years, but don't most teams add role/bench players rather than stocking a super large bullpen? But, sure, I'd rather see Varland than about half of the current BP.
