    I'm honestly surprised how many have turned into serviceable MLB players. I'm curious how that compares to other teams. Though the first half of R1 is far different than the 27th overall pick. People place too much stock in rounds.

    There are countless AAAA players they can drop off the roster at any point. People make too big a deal of this issue. This team has depth, but not that much depth.

    Um, what level of [uncontrolled] player do you expect for $1M? A back end reliever at $1M is as cheap as it gets. And if he can't contribute, they aren't spending a roster spot on him. He'll be waived or on the 60-day IL.

    They have enough "are they healthy?" players on this roster. On a Solano-type deal, where there is no risk, in a heartbeat. But that isn't happening. Spend the that kind of money or RP or everyday starters without spotty injury histories.

    I think that it forces decisions about the 40 roster spots it why it sticks. That is a good thing for all players, even if DFA limbo has its own set of drawbacks. The MLBPA signs off on this for a reason, and they generally look out for their best interests.

    You have to trade quality to get quality. It's really that simple. I'd listen to all offers. And unless there are health concerns in the middle IF going into Spring, go from there...

    No mention of Ryan Pressley? As others have said, it's more about the concept as a whole than that 1 year rule change. The draft forces teams to carry developmental players on the MLB roster -- often for multiple years before they peak (even Santana). I'd be curious to see actual pre/post 2006 data though. How many players have stuck for the year? What is their WAR within their controlled years and how does that compare before and after? All Star appearances are interesting trivia, but they don't mean anything in terms of value.

    With most players I'd agree. But I think Stroman possibly just really didn't like being with the Cubs. (I mean, who can blame him if that's the case.) In most opt out scenarios it's about the market. Stroman is enough of an individual that it's possible he just didn't like the fit.

    I think it might be referring to how something like only 130 of 162 games were on TV each year. Maybe it's finally going to be 162. The fact that nobody here even knows what, exactly, was blacked out tells you how bad the marketing has been.

    Attebury as a sub is the definition of average. You get very little personality and he tells it like it is. You almost don't know he's there. I'm curious if that style will change with the regular gig. He's earned it, I'll give him that. Was hoping for Marni.

    For a while it was fun to listen to Gladden grow and learn the ropes. But he hit a wall and...it stopped. I still enjoy his off the cuff criticisms of players, but it seems that he either can't stay focused on the details we need over radio or that he just doesn't care anymore (see Blyleven, Bert).

    I enjoyed saying his name -- nice rhythm to it. Hope he can catch on and have a career.

    You aren't wrong, but you are debating the value of the rookie league wild card player TBA you'll get in return, basically. You get an 18 year old or a 20 year old. Other teams already know he's in a roster crunch and at peak value he isn't worth much in a trade. I think the difference here is negligible.

    Well, given that the offensive expectations of a league average CF hitting is basically Michael Taylor, they'd have to really not be hitting. But I agree, I'd prefer a starter-on-a-bad-team, Taylor-level insurance policy in CF again.

    This. He seems buried on the depth chart by now. But there will be 3 injuries before we know it...If not, let the DFA system work itself out. Maybe they work out a post-DFA trade for something minimal.

    It's strange to me how many people value AAA stats more than MLB stats.

    Based on 2023, it's important to have starting quality backups. Farmer and Taylor were huge. And there will be injuries. But I'm not sold that Bader is starting quality. He sounds like a platoon-type to me, which just clutters the bench more than it needs to.
