  1. I am deeply in the denial stage of this pig show of a season. The weather hasn't turned yet in Minnesota and this club is too talented to be this bad and already be out of contention. Whatever, right... Just enjoy the game and detach from the outcome.
  2. LaTroy Hawkins is so awful on air that he makes Morneau sound like a polished veteran on the mic. And, I think Morneau is borderline unlistenable. Add that to the annoying (yet admittedly competent) Dick Bremer and I yearn for the fun days of Bert Blyleven.
  3. La Russa gave him the take sign and the guy swung through it in an 11 run game. It was a bush league move clearly to simply pad stats and was selfish. Ignoring a sign from the manager seems to be a known (written) rule. Many times in life something is technically not wrong, which does not mean it wasn't a jerk move. I'm glad the Twins at least did something to show they have some fight.
  4. Tim Anderson (and presumably the White Sox in general) basically laughed at the Twins when they signed Happ. https://www.google.com/amp/s/yanksgoyard.com/2021/01/22/yankees-tim-anderson-reaction-ja-happ-signing/amp/
  5. I also noticed the two other players backing up the play weren't really in good position to back up the play since they were scrambling to get over there. There are many subtleties to the shift. Not to mention, we have a third baseman turning the double play instead of the shortstop brought in this season for defense.
  6. Is this is the first wave the white flag recap of the season?
  7. I have tickets to the Saints home opener tonight. I've been struggling with this thought since they announced the Saints are now the Twins AAA affiliate - why is watching demoted Twins players and guys not quite good enough for MLB better than just watching the Twins instead? I guess I see some of the intrigue to see a top prospect, although I fall back to why not just wait until they get promoted to the Twins. I've been a Saints fan since day one and have really enjoyed watching that franchise grow and become what it has. I am a bit skeptical that the Saints can and will keep the same fun vibe and atmosphere at CHS Field. I just really enjoyed having the Saints in a separate world from the Twins - it was a nice distraction from the Twins to follow the independent league Saints. Are we supposed to take care how the AAA Saints team performs as far as win-loss record?
  8. Yes, how do we get to the first unread post. Also, how can we tell if there are any unread comments on a post before we click.
  9. I've felt the same way (in the back of my mind I thought it) since they laid an egg in the 2019 playoffs. It's a bitter pill to swallow.
  10. How is this catcher group even at an OPS+ of 65? I would have guessed more along the lines of the 7 we have seen so far from LF. At catcher, I think they need to choose one of the two and let him play most of the games and drop the platoon. Or, look for a free agent catcher they can sign. For LF, bring in Broxton as he showed some life in spring training and maybe he could finally tap that elusive potential.
  11. I took my brother to the game today and my present to him was the ticket. He is a diehard as well, though doesn't go to as many games as me. He was not happy with the results or the effort. I felt almost bad he didn't enjoy the gift more.
  12. Rocco did the same thing in the Saturday game in the Mariners series. He pulled Cruz to pinch run Jake Cave then we were treated to Mr. Cave hitting in that spot in the bottom of the 10th. I remember because I was at the game and yelled to my wife when Rocco pulled Cruz. Arraez makes the play at second that Blankenhorn muffed and Donaldson makes the throw that Arraez sailed.
  13. At what point do we break the glass in case of emergency? I don't think we are there yet. Still, this team is showing some glaring weaknesses that can't be ignored. I've been a Cave defender throughout. This is getting brutal to watch him. Sano needs to turn things around quickly. How many leads has this bullpen surrendered? This is just the start of the list.
  14. For the last man on a roster, he is a valuable asset. As a spark plug, motivator, and fan favorite he is invaluable. If the dude hits, he deserves it. Tortuga! Tortuga!! Tortuga!!!
  15. How about helping his HOF case with a World Series ring or three with the Twins at the end of his career?!? Along the way he should get to that 500 HR mark.
  16. Polanco was the terrible 2020 version, not the career year 2019 version. Simmons impressed at the plate, yet made a costly Little League error that led to a run scoring. The Twins defense and bullpen were exposed and they are not really a World Series contender.
  17. Amen and amen. If I can't dream like that in March then just stick a fork in me. World Series or bust!
  18. The Twins will beat the Dodgers in 7 games in the 2021 World Series.
  19. I just keep saying I'd like to see this Sox team prove the consistency over 162 games. Whereas the Twins have a bit more of a track record over the long term.
  20. It's only March 20. No worries here.
  21. Or, at least, make a decision soon. The home opener is April 8 and the Twins say they need 30 days to get Target Field ready.
  22. What are the chances of La Tortuga mania taking a grip of CHS Field this summer?
  23. There isn't much as far as baseball songs to choose from beyond the obvious. I will go with Glory Days by Bruce Springsteen since he leads off the song talking about his friend who was a baseball player back in high school. Glory Days was released and I was in the middle of my own glory days and didn't really get the meaning of the song. Now, I get it. I had to look this next one up to spark my memory - Paradise by the Dashboard Light has a cool baseball part in the middle of the song. The internet tells me, "...this hit from Bat Out of Hell is a short one-act about two horny teenagers at a lovers lane somewhere in America, with none other than Yankees announcer Phil Rizzuto providing a play-by-play of their heavy petting."
