  1. Ditto, this has been a great series so far. I am in the camp that Johan losing out on this Cy Young derailed any chance of a serious HOF candidacy. I still can't recall Mauer stealing bases, although I know he was a great all around athlete as I watched him play high school football.
  2. Wasn't the celebration in the clip subdued because it was the Twins only clinching a tie for the division instead of outright winning the division?
  3. Thanks for the memories. Taking a detailed dive like this really highlights how much fun and how special it is to follow a team long term. Johnny Damon on the Royals! I haven't thought of that game in 20 years, it's weird to spark that memory of such an obscure game.
  4. Fear is the opposite of faith and there are no guarantees in life (especially in this COVID-19 new normal). If baseball does things the right way and uses common sense and logic in regard to safety then things should (hopefully) be OK. To call the season off quibbling over dollars would be a travesty and tbe lost fans will dwarf the 1994 numbers.
  5. I will echo what others have said so far and state that I expect Mitch to be solid behind the plate for the next 3-5 years. I love the swing and disciplined plate approach and it should serve Mitch well as he ages.
  6. A.J was a legit pick. The guy acted like a horse's patooty. Don't hate Jeter because he roasted our Twinkies for all those years. He was the epitome of class. Even though the Twins beat the Cardinals in the 1987 World Series, Ozzie Smith always annoyed me to aggravation.
  7. Even though he had one rough start against the Twins last season, I fell like Lucas Giolito will be in this list in 10 years.
  8. Either go universal DH or no DH at all. I am totally against expanded playoffs and neutral site World Series in principle. However, I will take what I can get this season. Anything to make MLB more like the NFL is a loss for MLB so I would hope the neutral site World Series would be a one-time deal.
  9. July 1 with no fans in the stands seems the most optimistic and aggressive prediction for the start of the MLB season.
  10. Minnesota Vikings 1999 NFC Championship game and Gary Bleeping Anderson and his ONLY miss of the season. Not much for the Twins since they have either won the World Series as underdogs, lost to superior teams in the playoffs (Yankees) or been mediocre. The Vikings are the Minnesota team that has broken hearts.
  11. Tough division for our Twins. Who cares, right? I will keep praying for baseball, not sweat the details, and hope for the best.
  12. Buxton is the best defender I have ever seen. Now, his success is obviously in spurts here and there so it depends on your criteria if he should win something like this.
  13. Interesting, I didn't know Carew wrote a book. I remember reading Lau and Ted Williams' books, both back in the 1980s. I also had a videotape of Lau's.
  14. Slim pickins at 3B and SS. What a strange decade, the franchise really saw all ends of the spectrum.
  15. I am afraid that piling COVID-19 on top of the existing MiLB contraction plan is not good news to franchises such as Elizabethton. I can see new independent leagues popping up if the economy kick starts and society can get back to large gatherings such as baseball games. That might not be until 2022 at the earliest that a new league could get started. There are lots of obstacles that didn't exist even 60 days ago.
  16. Why didn't the Vikings draft an offensive lineman?
  17. Not much for starters after Bert and Frankie V. I still have nightmares from the Ron Davis (RD) Experience in the 1980s.
  18. Kent Paulson was a great guy. I played baseball and varsity basketball for him at Roseville High School in the late 1980s.
  19. I was sitting in the very top row in left field in section 329 the night of that #1 Sano blast (free tickets from a friend). I thought that shot was going to reach me.
  20. Dozier will be in the Twins Hall of Fame, and deservedly so. He was their best player for 5 years, won a Gold Glove, and had one of the best individual Twins seasons ever. Top that off with being a fan favorite and a man of high moral character.
  21. Come on now, Jordan was no angel by any stretch of the imagination. Honestly, some of his actions and baloney would not have been accepted had he not been one of the greatest. The details are murky, I recall he had quite a dark side when it came to gambling, just as an example.
  22. Kirby meant more to Minnesota. Without Kirby this is the losingest sports town ever in men's professional sports. At least Chicago had the Bears winning a Super Bowl. Without Kirby, Minnesota is nothing (unless you are old enough to remember the Lakers).
  23. Woulda, coulda, shoulda... Would the Twins and Gardy's guys have won a postseason series or three if Morneau didn't get that concussion? It might not be a huge stretch to say the Twins might have another World Series banner if Morneau and Mauer had stayed concussion free.
