    You're right. That decision may well have come down to him or Emilio Pagan. Now take your Emilio Pagan sucks goggles off an compare the two objectively. Is it REALLY a slam dunk either way?

    You may be right. In a vacuum, Pham's presence might not impact the Twins for many years. His biggest impact MIGHT have been preventing Joey Gallo from breaking the team strikeout record. Personally, I'd DFA Gallo and HOPE that Wallner or Larnach or Austin Martin or Kala'i Rosario would make a breakthrough, have a magical, Randy Arozerana type post-season run and put a choke hold on LF for the next three quarters of a decade. But, alas, HOPE is not a sound strategy so we've claimed Jordan Luplow. If MLB bans right handed pitching this will be a home run move.

    No sense in making a deal just to make a deal.

    Sure it is. But if you win a bad division you still get into the playoffs. Everybody starts the playoffs with the same record.

    Seems like only a few weeks ago that fans were griping that all the Twins did was beat teams like the Royals. Problem solved and STILL the same griping. sheesh

    Deadline is 5 p.m. Central. Typically a few deals get announced after the deadline but extremely unlikely that anything comes out after the night games that night.

    Still going off the grid with Nick Senzel. Especially now that two former Twins farmhands have helped make him dispensable in Cincy. Can play CF & 3B (and probably all the corners) and is hitting the snot out of left handed pitching.

    I'll agree with almost everything you just wrote. I will question the last sentence though. You're right, you PROBABLY don't need 5 starters for the playoffs. As long as everyone stays healthy. Not just during the playoffs but in the two months of the regular season remaining. One of the, perhaps the main, reason our starting pitching has performed at the level it has this year is because, for the most part, they have remained relatively healthy. Approaching my sixth decade of being a fan of this team I could be a bit cynical. Just because our starters have been relatively healthy thus far is NOT an indication that they will stay that way. In fact, it MAY just mean that the bad stuff is yet to come. So, no, we won't need 5 starters for the playoffs. But I'd have NO issue with waking up on August 2 with 8 guys to choose 4 from among on October 4.

    At least one corner OF spot is needed for Gallo's team strikeout record attempt. AND the team's run at the MLB team strikeout record. Don't mess with immortality.

    They WON'T trade a starting pitcher. They HAVE starting pitching. AND a lead in the standings. You don't trade away starting pitching when you have a lead in the standings. You trade FOR starting pitching. No matter how much you have. We've traded away starting pitching at the deadline before. J.A. Happ, Jose Berrios, Lance Lynn, Jaime Garcia, Kevin Correa, Tommy Milone, Kyle Lohse. Some of my favorite Twins memories in recent decades are all the World Series parades in years subsequent to trading guys like that for impressive, franchise changing hauls at the deadline. Can't wait for the next one.

    Twins won't move a big major league piece unless they're BLOWN AWAY with an offer. Don't see that happening.

    Some things you just can't coach in some guys. The ability to hit breaking pitches is that thing for many guys.
