    1975. Disco Danny Ford hit .280 with 15 home runs and Lyman Bostock hit .282. Nobody really noticed them as Fred Lynn & Jim Rice finished 1, 2 in the ROY race and nobody else got votes and Lynn & Rice also finished 1,3 in the MVP voting that year. Jim Hughes won 16 games as rookie SP, besting Bert Blylevin by one for the team lead. If you're not old you won't remember any of that.

    But at least now we can be excited when we are bringing them. Some of those guys 8-9 years ago were terrifying at just the thought of them coming up. And I'm not saying we don't have a way to go yet. The mere fact that you used the word Garlick cements that.

    Yes. Turns out that maybe, just maybe, the guys that get paid to make the decisions actually know more than those who wish they did.

    and yet we still ended up calling up guys like bernier, albers, mastroianni, burton, fryer, achter, schafer, light, granite & busenitz over the next half decade. Just feels like we're at a point where calling guys up seems like positive rather than scary thing.

    The difference between this team today and Twins teams 5-10 years ago is the what they have on the farm. Every year fans spend the whole spring wondering what the opening day 26 is gonna look like. We've over a month to go in the season and already nineteen guys not on the opening day roster have played on the big league club. Now look at the names. Guys like Julien, Wallner, Lewis, Varland and Balazovic. Now go back and look at the guys getting big league action 5-10 years ago. Names that would scare the s#@! of you: Bobby Wilson, Nik Turley, James Beresford, Tim Stauffer. We once got excited about Chris Collabelo. Night and day. We now bring up guys we look forward to seeing. And best of all, we have to go to Philly to see Jake Cave.

    I never said it is a "bad" stat just said that I don't have much use or time for it. Probably because I spend too much time attending all of the Twins parades since they've become so ensconced in the advanced analytics game. Or Tampa Bay parades. Can't forget the Dodgers parades since they've fallen on the altar AND had more payroll money than God. Bottom line is the bottom line. Advanced analytics are an excellent way of predicting the past.

    Bold is kind of my thing but I like guys that hit home runs score runs and drive runs in. To be totally honest I don't give a s$@! about wRC+ and whatever comeback you're gonna come up with ain't gonna sway me so save your keystrokes.

    Argue. Why argue? Your statement is a slam dunk. If you take out Hiem, Rutschman, Jansen, Raleigh & Rogers. Or limit the discussion to guys who might be starting to wear down based on being scratched from their last start due to back tightness. Oh. WAIT. You're gonna use batting average as your criteria. Which I don't really have an issue with. Of course I get called a dinosaur when I use that stat. NOW GET OFF MY LAWN.

    Not a single one of the 10 catchers who played over a hundred games had an OPS of .800 Three of the ten who played between 87 and 99 did and one of them was over .900

    You are correct that the debate may have been about the fatigue of doing it thru 162 games. 162 games which are meaningless without said Playoffs.
