  1. The Twins biggest competition in this division is the Twins. Starting pitching, hitting and bullpen all need to work in harmony. They don't. End of story.
  2. This team is exactly what we should have known it would be. Slightly better than last year. Which MIGHT be good enough to win the AL Central. We upgraded most of the team. Slightly. Didn't do enough to upgrade the hitting. You reap what you sow.
  3. Say what you want but 5 RBIs in 106 plate appearances describes a lack of production. Yes, opportunity may factor in but to call it something other than a lack of production is foolhardy.
  4. Advanced metrics are an excellent way of predicting the past. FIVE RBI is actual production. Or lack thereof.
  5. Kepler's got the equivalent of a full season in CF over the course of his career and has been solid if not spectacular there. Seems we have a plethora of corner options. Move him over if need be.
  6. I know, right? Hard to imagine where we'd be without Solano's 5 RBI.
  7. I always love the fact that these types of articles always overlook the fact that signing with the Twins in no way shape or form means any given player would do or would have done the same thing here that they did elsewhere. Sure we all want to believe that, probably mostly so we can believe that we are smarter than the actual folks that make the decisions but those thoughts are just not grounded in reality.
  8. again TEN games
  9. 10 career games in the outfield, eight of those in center doesn't exactly scream outfielder to me. A lot easier to move from a career SS to 2B or 3B than CF.
  10. Less a matter of most of those guys "struggling" and more a matter of most of them not being all that good at baseball.
  11. There is a huge disconnect between "wanting" those 2 guys in CF and those two guys being in CF being the best plan. That's why they're not out there and quite possibly won't be for most of the season even the going forward part of it.
  12. The topic of the thread was a guy with a .503 OPS going on the IL. I'm pushing 60 years old but I might be a better bat.
  13. He's not Buxton in CF but Taylor's not exactly Willie Norwood either.
  14. Offense has been solid of late, but if you normalize the last week, you're once again looking at a club that is on pace to score less than 700 runs which puts you at 85-88 wins, and IF you make the post-season, an early exit from such. The only hope is that Kirilloff stays healthy and hot and one or more of Lewis, Lee and / or Miranda comes up and makes a splash . Kind of scary when your leading RBI guy is hitting .225. At least your 10 home run guy is hitting .216
  15. Rear view assumes it's behind you, hasn't passed you and is gaining fast.
  16. YOU OR I could be better than a 60 plate appearance season. And as far as Sano's second to last season, Gallo's number were pretty much the same, except Gallo's average was 25 points lower and he struck out 30 more times.
  17. Lot season between now and that outcome. More likely that he regresses to the mean and ends up a lot closer to Sano's last couple full season average of 32 home runs or if you'd like to translate 2020 over a full season the 35 home runs that would have been. Any improvement over even average Sano will end up being nominal.
  18. We had Dave Kingman. We use to call him Miguel Sano. We now call him Joey Gallo.
  19. Advanced analytics are an excellent way of predicting the past.
  20. Have to assume that some of the improvement in our pitching, especially the starting pitching, can be attributed to him but also can't ignore an OPS barely over .500 when the rest of the lineup is scuffling and the other guy is pushing .900
  21. The Dyson trade wasn't a win but it wasn't really a loss either. Gave up Jaylin Davis. Pretty sure our fortunes were not negatively impacted by losing him. Fun fact about the Garcia trade: He won more games as a Twin that year than he did as a Yankee. Seems nobody but me wants to call out the Berrios trade. Yeah, I know, I know. His numbers in Toronto this year and last don't scream "a guy we should have kept." But saying he would have done here what he did there is just lazy. And he WAS rock solid for Toronto down the stretch that first year. I said when we made that deal that with any luck we'd need to trade for a similar guy a year hence. And sure enough a year later, the Mahle deal.
  22. He is what he's been since he got here. Don't let analytics allow you to doubt what your eyes see.
