Upcoming Advertising Jersey Patch
strumdatjag replied to Original_JB's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
How about promoting something a little more edgy? Sex World is near Target Field. Or one of the iconic bars: CC Club, First Avenue, Gay 90s, The Dakota. Or alternate each of the Jucey Lucy places - half of the jerseys with Matt’s Bar, the other with the 5-8 Club. -
Corn Crop in Cedar Rapids is looking good.
strumdatjag commented on nclahammer's blog entry in Twins Talk
Great place to catch a game. But bring back the original Mr. Shucks mascot (like Mr Peanut, only an ear of corn). On the way down, Minnesotans should try an Iowa Favorite - The Tenderloin Sandwich (it’s pork tenderloin but true afficianados never say “pork”). It’s also big in Indiana (The Bierstube in Hastings has a Weinerschnitzel sandwich which is really the same thing ). The Susie Q Restaurant in Mason City (pretty much on the way) has a different variety called the Spic and Span (more beer battered instead of cracker crumb). It was once named #2 Tenderloin Sandwich in the nation. The restaurant is in a classic 10 stool Valentine Diner (about 1/4 the size of Mickey’s Diner). The owner has been known to do magic tricks. The Iowa pork producers have also set up a Tenderloin Trail at their website. Susie Q is not on the map, but other restaurants featuring top tenderloins on the way to Cedar Rapids (with a slight detour) are right there on the map. Joensy’s Restaurant in Cedar Rapids claims to have a famous Jumbo Tenderloin Sandwich. Then after partaking in Iowa’s finest cuisine, enjoy the game. Walker Jenkins should be there in high A-Ball next season. -
Many years ago, I went to see a Kernals game in Cedar Rapids. The purpose was to see the number one prospect Byron Buxton. Jose Berrios started the game. However, the star of the game was Jorge Polanco. I am biased as a longtime fan of this player and lean towards keeping him one more year. Next year’s salary seems reasonable for a super-sub utility infielder. Hopefully, Polo is willing to accept a reduced role as talented younger players are promoted.

Keep using Julien sparingly at 2B and more a DH (along with Buxton if or when he returns from Il). With Lee approaching MLB readiness and Buxton with a no-trade clause, the Twins must seriously look at trading Julien in the off-season to a team wowed by his offensive numbers.

Jarrett Whorff was promoted. That means the Twins are one step closer to having a Klingon on the roster. Instead of Harry Potter and Star Wars Promotions - Star Trek will prevail. Make it so.

The Twins also have Solano as an option at 1B (along with Julien or Polanco). Joey’s gotta go.

Twins stranded a multitude of runners again. But the dumbest thing on this night was the whole Harry Potter promotion. Why????

Twins Claim Outfielder Jordan Luplow
strumdatjag replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I heard that MLB rules wouldn’t allow for this acquisition, but the Twins found a “Luplow” in the rules. That stupid pun will probably be the best thing from this acquisition. -
Joe Mauer Makes His First Hall of Fame Entrance
strumdatjag replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Deserves to be in Cooperstown, better if it’s first ballot. I split a season ticket and unfortunately will not be at Saturday’s Joe Mauer induction - Instead, I’m there for Harry Potter night. OK - I like JK Rowling’s first series of stories but really! It’s an English thing - It’s more appropriate for Harry to promote Cricket (or Quidditch)- 11 replies

Twins Pitcher of the Month: July 2023
strumdatjag replied to Steven Trefz's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
IF IF IF - The twins make the playoffs. Based on today - what would be your pitching rotation? Here is Mine - 1. Maeda 2. Ober 3. Lopez 4. Gray 5. Ryan I put Maeda over Ober only based on his longer experience / it’s a close call. At the beginning if the season, this list would have been in reverse. Go figure.- 7 replies

3 Trades the Twins Must Make Today
strumdatjag replied to Jamie Cameron's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
MUST??? A right handed bat would be nice and comes closest to being actual need. It doesn’t help much, however, if the rest of the line up doesn’t produce AND is less of a necessity if they do produce. The other MUSTS are not necessary. and can and will be addressed internally. Find a way to get Dallas Keuchel up here - there you have your lefty starter (trading Gray or Maeda to make room and adding the farm system or helping to acquire that RH/ lefty masher). Relief pitching can and will be addressed internally.. Thielbar and Stewart will return and there are other options in St Paul. Do not bet the farm on this inconsistent team. There are less costly ways to accomplish these goals. Cost matters. -
Rumor: MLBTR Twins Rumor Roundup
strumdatjag replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
If they trade Sonny Gray, the Twins have more depth than just Dallas Keuchel (Varland, Winder, and more). -
Accept reality with some caveats below. Currently, Pagan is the best #3 option in this bullpen. I don’t expect any additional trades for relief pitchers. Let’s see if the Twins try Maeda or Keuchel or another starter as the third guy (behind Duran and Jax). Maybe Thielbar can return and assume the role of #3 guy. Dread the thought, but what if there is an injury or reduction in effectiveness for Duran and Jax????

Should the Twins Shop a Young Corner Bat?

The Twins won’t deal Wallner because he’s a local boy. Larnach seems the likely odd man out here.- 54 replies

Surprise. Pagan has looked pretty good lately. Until Thielbar gets back and proves himself, Emilio is the #3 reliever (behind Duran and Jax and ahead of Jorge Lopez, Moran etc).

Rumor: Will the Guardians Trade Aaron Civale?
strumdatjag replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Let’s try to keep this conversation Civale. The Twins don’t need another Starting Pitcher, the Twins need more batters who can get on base and some more to drive them home. I’m sure Joe Ryan and Rocco would want it to be said like Jerry at the end of this long, strange trip in Frisco this weekend, “If I knew the way, I would take you home.” -
Again, if we can’t get more offense out of what we have, then it would be a poor decision to deplete our pipeline of future players for a pipe dream this year. If the Twins current team can start to produce at a better level - where is that going to be? If Vasquez starts to hit better, then there is no need to trade an asset for another catcher. The same holds true for the infield and outfield. Finally - Nobody is trading a stud for Kepler and/or Gallo - Not on this planet in the world of reality.!!!
-
Some of you may not have liked him but Donald Rumsfeld said it best when describing the Iraq War - and it applies to the Twins this season: ”You go to war with the Army you have, not the Army you might want or wish to have at a later time.” The Twins made a big investment in Correa and Buxton (and to a lesser extent, Vasquez). They aren’t producing as desired. It isn’t worth selling any bit of the future to add some more vets to this current unproductive group. Do you really want to see another Yennier Cano as an all-star for someone else next year (and he was just a lottery pick that by luck came in for the O’s). So - The fans of this team are left hoping for the current stars to make a 180 and suddenly click this year. If it doesn’t happen, then some major decisions need to be made in the off season. BUT - For this season, we at war with the Army we have - like it or not.
-
It gets a little easier if Buxton plays at least 2/3rds of the games in CF. Then the DH becomes more flexible rotating Donnie Barrels (sometimes Castro) and Kepler/Gallo/Wallner. For playoffs, expected roster - hoping - c: Jeffers/Vasquez 1B Kirilloff 2B. Polanco 3B. Lewis SS. Correa RF. Kepler CF. Buxton LF. Gallo DH Solano Bench: Wallner, Castro, Julien, Taylor, plus 12 pitchers. It’s far from the 1927 Yankees but it’s something - as long as Buxton can play and stay healthy. Again - nothing happens if Correa and Buxton don’t hit. The Twins for this season have to rely on those two bats bouncing back.

Most of the mock drafts had the same top five. There was a clear drop off in the respect given to players ranked lower than those five. Only one of those five was left on the board when the Twins made their pick. TD would be full of outrage if they took anybody else.
