Shifting Minnesota’s Defensive Focus in 2022
strumdatjag replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
No problem with no more than 3 in the outfield (even short field). But the Third basemen and first basemen must be allowed to play on the infield grass if a bunt is suspected. -
Shifting Minnesota’s Defensive Focus in 2022
strumdatjag replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
My favorite play is a lefty bunting to a third base area emptied by “the shift”. Teach it at all levels. -

Agreed. Many players put in greasy seasons during the Great Depression and during times of war. -
CBA Musings (2/18): What’s Happening and What’s Next
strumdatjag replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Tying salaries to revenue makes some sense. Still, MLB doesn’t have the popularity of the NFL and NBA, and therefore the comparisons are misplaced Nevertheless, it’s not a niche sport like the NHL or MMA either. It’s somewhere in between. -
CBA Musings (2/18): What’s Happening and What’s Next
strumdatjag replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I’m more likely to just BBQ at home more. It’s cheaper, even after factoring in inflation. The point is that MLB, the orchestra and others in entertainment and Sports take a risk when they give their fans a hiatus from going to games, concerts etc. Many of the fans will find other things that they prefer to do and others will determine that their lives didn’t need the Sports or Entertainment activity and the expense and commitment. -
CBA Musings (2/18): What’s Happening and What’s Next
strumdatjag replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
My wife and I used to split a season ticket to see the Minnesota Orchestra. Then the Orchestra went on strike. We found other things to do. When the Orchestra resolved its dispute, we decided that we were not going to buy season tickets anymore. I’m a bigger Twins fan. I have split Twins season tickets since 1986. Still, after a few pandemic years and this CBA year, I’ve learned that there are more ways to occupy my time during Minnesota’s warmest months. At this time, I’m coming back. But my mind could change in the future as my time away from baseball gets longer. -
The Man that Brought Us Tomorrow Night!
strumdatjag replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
By far, my all-time favorite Twin for every month of every year. Don’t think there will be another to overcome Kirby’s #1 position in my lifetime. I hope so (and Kirby would agree) - because that would mean the Twins will find someone to lead us to another two championships at least. -
Byron Buxton: The Heart and Soul of These Twins
strumdatjag replied to Nash Walker's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I can agree with all the positives. Still, this is the second “nice guy” face of the franchise in the last 10 years (Joe Mauer before BB). Byron doesn’t have to go full AJ or Josh. He plays with reckless abandon already. Yet, wouldn’t a little “edge” sometimes help? -
The Lockout Diaries: Week 9
strumdatjag replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Some may disagree, but starting the season in Late April or Early May would be no problem with many fans. I belong to a large season ticket group. The late March and April games are the least popular ones. I know - don’t wish for a work stoppage or it could go till August. -
Except for Torii Hunter, there ain’t much to get excited about there. I guess we wait a few more years for Joe Mauer to.appear on the ballot.

Do You Remember These Guys As Twins?
strumdatjag replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I remember Jason Bartlett was such a quiet guy, that he had trouble communicating with his teammates in the field. Being able to shout “I got it” really helps in baseball. Sonebody correct me if my memory is wrong.- 24 replies

Josh Donaldson is Better Than You Think
strumdatjag replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Don’t trade him now! If the Twins are in the hunt at the deadline (presuming this season isn’t dead- CBA?), then Josh Donaldson will probably be an important piece (at 3B and part-time DH) to keep for the season and post-season. if the Twins are out of the picture, then trade him prior to the deadline. One caveat: this strategy only works if JD stays healthy and is productive.- 25 replies

You’re right on Game 6 in 1991. However, as much as I appreciate all things Kirby Puckett for the Twins, he was NOT the center of attention in Game 7. That designation goes to Jack Morris. Rodney had the greater overall career due to longevity - Kirby’s years with the Twins we’re better than Rodney’s.

3 Twins Pitchers Due to Bounce Back in 2022
strumdatjag replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Time to vent. I think that names should not start with the letters Jh. I started thinking this when Jhonny Peralta was playing. Jhoan Duran and now Jharel Cotton currently mess with our spellchecks. It’s incredibly inconvenient to have to write their names 3 times in order to get my IPhone to print it out with Jh. The Twins have a legal department. Let’s get them working on name changes for these two. Get the H out.- 12 replies

Minnesota's Top-5 Ranked International Prospects
strumdatjag replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
He’s getting close enough that we should know - how are we supposed to pronounce “JHOAN”??? This question coming from a Dan who remembers Twins announcers for some time pronouncing our shortstop’s name “Ver-sallees”.- 6 replies

Part 6: Seth's Top 30 Twins Hitting Prospects (1-5)
strumdatjag replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
When he was drafted, I remember one pundit describing the ceiling on Royce Lewis as becoming another Derek Jeter. If his injury issues haven’t diminished that expectation, then this “high character guy” deserves the top spot. Part of me, however, yearns for more “characters” (Eddie Rosario, Tortuga, Mike Redmond, Sergio Romo, A.J. Pierzynski …). In fact, during the lock-out, somebody with a better memory than mine should come up with the all-time Twins “characters” team. On the current roster, Josh Donaldson (after last year’s rants) may be the only one true “character”.- 17 replies

Twins to Retire Jim Kaat’s Number
strumdatjag replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Let’s look at the slippery slope created by retiring Jim Kaat’s number. Does that mean that the Twins are now expected to retire Bert Blyleven’s number? Kaat and Bert are both borderline Hall of Fane pitchers who spent a large number of years with the Twins (often in years where they were not the number one starter), and then continued to serve the organization as a color guy on TV. On top of that, Bert helped the Twins win a World Series. Then what about Johan Santana, Brad Radke’ … -
Twins to Retire Jim Kaat’s Number
strumdatjag replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I won’t complain much. Kaat’s a stand-up guy with good numbers as a Twin. He was also the best color guy on the tube ever. I still think the Twins retire too many numbers. Fun to be the villain and I’m not even trolling. -
Twins to Retire Jim Kaat’s Number
strumdatjag replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I struggled with Carew. Frankly, I didn’t want to be accused of a double-standard when I used the “other teams” criteria against Kaat. I’ll admit it’s hard not to retire Carew’s number, but it’s hard to see all the players who had their numbers retired by more than one team (I like Hank Aaron but the Brewers retired his number - really???) -
Twins to Retire Jim Kaat’s Number
strumdatjag replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
That’s a tough one. Frankly, I think the Twins retire too many numbers. Kirby and Harmon are obvious. Tony and Joe are worthy. However, Rodney played much of his career elsewhere (like Kaat) and TK was a manager. Kent HrBek is the most questionable choice. Sorry to be such a negative guy here. Don’t get me started on lowering flags to half staff too much or I’ll be a complete pariah. -
Trade either Arraez or Polanco, then making the other our regular second baseman. The Twins are awash in quality infielders (other than proven defensive shortstops), so cash in that surplus to bolster other areas of greater need (starting pitching!!!). Donaldson and Sano do not have the trade value of Polanco or Arraez.

Part 5: Seth's Top 30 Twins Hitting Prospects (6-10)
strumdatjag replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
For reasons unrelated to their quality of play, here is why I hope to see two of these players make it to Target Field: 1. Best New Promotion: Kalai’i Rosario Umbrella Drink Night. It’s the perfect promotion in the era of craft cocktails. MLB can loosen it’s uptight tie a bit and celebrate our Hawaiian player with tropical drinks at Target Field and free souvenir mini-umbrellas. More pineapple! 2. Best New Walk-Up Song: For Edouard Julien, from Quebec - written on the scoreboards - “Oui Will - Oui Will - Rock You.” Not listed 6-10, but I’m looking forward to the crowd singing “Valderi-Valdera” as home-run music for any player named Wander (that song being “The Happy Wanderer”).- 16 replies

Mike Marshall was Gene Mauch’s go-to guy that closed out Twins wins. He turned a below average Twins team into an average team. But as a 9-11 year old, I am most grateful for Jim “Mudcat” Grant. There were other great years back in the day from Jim Kaat and Jim Perry. But Mudcat was my favorite Jim. Find us some video of Mudcat and the Kittens.

I get it. The Twins didn’t TAKE Johan Santana, he was taken by the Marlins and traded for the Twins Rule 5 pick and some cash. But C’Mon. He was really a Twins Rule 5 guy. I guess it’s how one defines “Take”.
