  1. The Twins should pick up one big time FA starter. Otherwise, they will probably be bottom feeders again and hope to develop some of their young pitchers for sometime in the second half. Longterm, that latter option could be the best course. In other words, don’t break the bank to boost a below average team to mere average status.
  2. I wouldn’t make too many moves based on the last two injury-riddled, pandemic years. We are only two years removed from the Bomba Squad. Relax - but next year get a short-leash ready.
  3. I like targeting shortstops since they often end out playing in a different position. But it would be nice to see at least one top pitcher targeted.
  4. More than a few years ago, I went to a low A-ball game in Cedar Rapids to see Byron Buxton play. Jose Berrios started. But the player who made the biggest impression was Jorge Polanco. He is one of the proven cornerstones of this franchise going forward. Who else? Mitch Garver and uh uh uh uh
  5. If Albers is showing success, the Twins must give him a call-up to see if it’s the real deal or a mirage. Nothing to lose
  6. Maybe one or two cast-offs from other teams or Nick Gordon to be placeholders until Martin and/or Lewis (or someone else in the system, possibly Gordon) is ready to take over the position. Otherwise, get some cast-offs in the off-season and let the competition begin.
  7. Andrelton was involuntarily inoculated by the virus itself. Sooner or later most of the Vax-reluctant Vikings and Twins will obtain their own involuntary inoculation. The Twins have hardly anything to lose. Unfortunately, the NFL will make the Vikings pay in the win loss column and on their balance sheet if a game gets canceled.
  8. I like Sano and Kirilloff splitting time at 1B and Kirilloff and Arraez splitting time in LF. All three then split time at DH with Josh Donaldson. Get a SS to hold a place for Dean and Jerry 2.0 (Martin and Lewis) or someone else, Polanco at 2B. Larnach, Rooker, Miranda and more fight to get into those competitions listed above.
  9. Hoping he is related to Ron Gant, so we can re-live the Hrbek/Gant moment one more time.
  10. It ain’t “Dean and Jerry” but the Twins now have “Martin and Lewis” (Austin snd Royce) as potential future “shortstops or wherever they end up” type players. “My Friend Irma” and I both like it.
  11. Trade Robles for a cheap box of rocks after his past performance
  12. Overpaying can haunt too. Bobby Bonilla.
  13. Not to be a jerk here - But - Has TD ever posted a prediction of a trade and then that trade actually happened exactly as predicted? Check the archives!
  14. As Bud Grant has said, durability is as important as ability.  Royce Lewis has been touted as a potential future Twins CenterFielder. Make offers, but Byron is free to reject them.  Don’t bet the farm on this fragile player.

  15. Part of me hopes Berrios stays, but the rest of me, my brain, says the Twins better not turn down any reasonable offer. After tonight’s great performance, the price just got a little higher.
  16. Arraez at 2B with Polanco as super-sub (SS,2B snd Dh). Go to the free agent market to pick up a SS for defense I prefer Polanco in the role as super-sub over Arraez because Jorge is a switch-hitter who is better to move around the Diamond to sub for players who have trouble with particular pitchers.
  17. Arraez. Sano, Larnach and Rooker are all likrly candidates for a potential Twins DH by Committee, while backing up other positions. Miguel Sano, however, may never be able to cut down his strike-outs. So, the Twins need another right handed bat to be ready if Miggy doesn’t cut it next year. Rooker is the most likely player in waiting. Gotta keep him.
  18. I just think it’s amazing that Washington is now viewed as a “big market” team. The Senators came here in 1961 because they couldn’t make a buck in DC. Maybe, it says more about the growth since 1961 of government and private industry servicing government in Suburban DC (northern Virginia has some of the richest counties in the USA). Still, I don’t view The Nats as a big market team. Baltimore still has a team 65 miles away. Some smaller markets (like St Louis) just spend more than other smaller market teams.
  19. If Larnach looked a little more comfortable at the plate, I wouldn’t be against a Kepler trade. But even then, Larnach is not a great defensive fielder, Buxton isn’t durable and could be traded or play out his last year, Kirilloff is better at 1B, Arraez is a defensive liability (at least in last night’s game). I think the Twins should hold onto Kepler, who at least provides above average to excellent defense, and has decent at-bats. .
  20. With one exception, the Yankees would be particularly dumb to be sellers or buyers at this point. They are back too far with too many teams to leapfrog. They have a chance, so they shouldn’t sell but the chance isn’t big enough to dump any elite prospects. However, making a trade for Buxton makes sense shirt-term and long-term. They would help themselves this year snd be in a better position to sign a longterm superstar in center field (as long as Buxton’s health issues are just a series of weird flukes). However, if Buxton’s durability problems persist or even cut his career short, they are one of the few teams that can afford to eat that longterm contract, shrug it off and sign more players.
  21. According to the article, the Twins are only “reluctant” to trade players with team control after this season. This makes sense (except arguably for unloading Josh Donaldson snd his contract), The Twins we’re favorites to win the Central this year and could field a World Series caliber team next year. Max Kepler and Jorge Polanco are producing again, Byron Buxton can be a top ten major leaguer if he stays healthy …. Still, they should keep a high asking price on Berrios and Buxton and consider taking an “offer they can’t refuse”.
  22. The trades at the trade deadline will determine much about the longterm role played by Luis Arraez. For example, think about what happens if Josh Donaldson is traded (with Arraez and Jose Miranda as longterm options at 3B). . Nevertheless, despite any future developments Polanco should stay here and remain longterm at 2B. Shortstop is a position the Twins will need to address with another player, Royce Lewis or another free agent. Frankly, I’d like to see Wander Javier succeed just so the organist can play the stupid “Happy Wanderer” song when he hits a home run or makes another great play - the crowd then can belt out “Valderi, Valdera, valder- ra-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha …”.
  23. The Twins took three catchers in the draft, so their need for depth at that position is less than you think.
  24. I was so optimistic about this season. Now I’m more interested in seeing the Twins after the trading deadline than the current group. I recognize the last half could be brutal - but I’m more curious about the future than the present.
  25. That’s a tough one. I picked Charlie Barnes who is at least at AAA. He’s a lefty. Who knows if he can “help”.
