    On the proposed rule change. If implemented it should be conditional on where the batter is within the batters box. If feet are close to the outside of the batters box then yes. If feet are close to the inside part of the batters box then no. One reason players are able to pull outside pitches is that they are crowding the inside part of the plate. There have been players who have been hit by balls that are almost strikes.

    This is a very good article. Just curious how they calculate a run or lack thereof because of a missed call. Are they just taking the MLB average expected run differential between 2 outcomes.

But I don’t know how to fully interpret the heat map other than to indicate that he is being pitched down and away. I couldn’t find a legend and don’t understand the meaning behind the different shades of red and blue.

    I don’t think it is that simple, Buxton could be pulling the ball because he is anticipating (i.e., guessing) fastball and starts his swing earlier thereby making him very susceptible to sliders and other off speed pitches.

    Buxton has always had a long swing. Early efforts to rework his swing were not successful. When he pulls a pitch of the outside part of the plate, I wonder if this is what the Twins are coaching or is it just Buxton. Absent a change in his hitting approach—and he is going in the wrong direction—this is what we can expect from Buxton going forward. 58% pull rate. That is Brian Dozier territory and he flamed out quickly. He doesn’t need to look to the Yankees to find hitting success. Max Kepler is a much better hitter now that he has stopped trying to pull every pitch into the bleachers.

    Have the Twins won a series against a team with a winning record this year. I don’t think so. They are several position players away from being a playoff caliber team. Maybe internally some players will step up like last year. As currently constructed the team is more than one starting pitcher away from winning a playoff series and therefore I would be hesitant to make a deadline trade for a starting pitcher.

    A failed starter turned reliever who is lights out for the first half of the season and whom the selling team wants half of the farm. I have seen this before. Oakland will win this trade just like Baltimore did in 2022.

    This comment isn’t necessarily about Julian but about the Twins hitting in general. I have seen this year too many occasions when hitters would not swing at a fastball right down the middle of the plate. It seems that they are being coached to look for a certain pitch in a specific location that they can drive and if it is not that they let it go. I have often wondered how many times in his career Ted Williams did not swing at a fastball in the heart of the hitting zone.

    The Twins made it to the playoffs last year because the team got hot in the second half led by Lewis (IL), Julian (0.210), Wallner (AAA), and Kepler. Of these only Kepler is putting in a similar performance as the second half of 2023. Otherwise we are seeing a team with similar offensive capabilities as the early 2023 version and that is just offensive.

    We have known since Buxton was called up that his swing was too long. I guess Paul Molitor had zero influence on that.

    The TV rights dispute between Bally and Comcast was covered in the Wall Street Journal last week. The issue is that Bally wants Comcast to charge all their cable subscribers while Comcast wants to offer a tier of service so that only subscribers to the Twins channel would pay Bally wants the current/ past model of charging every cable customer as it generates the most revenue for Bally. Comcast dislikes this model as many customers are charged for services they don’t use and this encourages cord cutting. Other commenters above have indicated that Comcast is also a competitor to Bally and their may be other motives besides this years revenue/profit in the dispute.

    Hmm! Austin Martin was on the bench. He can hit better and field better than Margot. Maybe I missed something, was there a reason Martin was unavailable.

    To me it seems the FO took the easy road (and perhaps the one that potentially offered the most money for this year). However, Bally’s was in financial distress and that establishing a streaming option seemed to be the long term path forward. To have a contract which prohibited the Twins from having streaming rights seems short sighted.

    I think most people would agree the culture is very important in an organization and on a personal level I have taken less money to work for an organization whose cultural values align with my own. In baseball, culture is also important for winning and having a toxic personality (e.g. Josh Donaldson) can be very disruptive to clubhouse cohesiveness. As the Twins and other mid market teams can not offer the same FA salary as the Dodgers, Yankees or other large market teams, how many baseball players would accept less money to play for an organization with a good culture.

    With regards to the forums, it is nice to have an avenue to post information. It doesn’t get used as frequently as in the past but I think the concept is nice. I do think that there has been an overall increase in the level of negativity on the site with some of it seemingly personal. I don’t like the thumbs down and I wish it would be removed as an option. I try very hard not to respond to negative comments or comment negatively There seems to be more articles on the front page and as a result the length of time people are actively commenting on each article is less (I actually don’t know if this is true, but seems to be my perception)

    Typo. Farmer, who decked the outfielder. should be deeked it would be interesting to see a runner score because he decked the outfielder. The runner would probably be called out for interference or running out of the baseline or unnecessary roughness Thank you for the write up it must be challenging to get a detailed game summary written shortly after the game ends

    There are a number of unknowns. If he can handle the workload of being a starter, he will be more valuable as a starter than a reliever—both in terms of team value and his own career financial value.

The modern version of Nick Punto would not be on this team because he can not hit. But wait, the hitters aren’t hitting and we are stuck with the worst of both worlds.

    “And the softer upcoming portion of the schedule is conducive to going on a run” haven’t they played Detroit and KC 10 times this month. On average it doesn’t get a lot softer than that. The White Sox are bad but still.

    Did not like the idea of PH for Kirilloff and Larnach in the 8th. With RISP 2 players with a combined BA of 0.609 were replaced with two players with a combined BA of 0.278.
