  1. Three at bats with RISP. Article mentions Castro taking a ball down the middle of the plate on call strike 3. Correa also took a fastball down the middle of the plate with RISP in the 7th or 8th inning before weakly popping out. No doubt Castro and Correa were waiting for “their” pitch to drive. Contrast that with Altuve’s at bat in the 9th. Altuve was just trying to make contact. The outcome was a lucky infield single with the runner taking 3B. But it was his approach that made the difference. I doubt that Altuve would have taken a pitch down the middle of the plate in that situation.
  2. Of the 113 qualified OF he is 111th with -7 OAA. Basically he profiles as a DH unless he can play 1B. (can’t paste Baseball Salvant link, not sure why).
  3. Weak hitting shortstops (Correa’s WRC+ of 85 is 40th in the league) even with stellar defense who are paid $35 million dollars do not have much trade value. If the Twins are lucky there will be a rich market team in need of a SS and is willing to take on his contract. Most likely the Twins would need to kick in $$ for a trade. Correa also has a no trade clause in his contract.
  4. The Brewers had a say in this trade as well. One possible explanation is to send a message to other potential malcontents who might demand a trade in the future. Be careful what you demand.
  5. The Twins are only 9 games out of 1st place in the division and are 1/2 games up in the wild card standings. It wasn’t that long ago that the Yankees preferred the wild card position because it provided a more favorable matchup in the playoffs.
  6. The article confirms what my eyes can see. Lots of call strikes on pitches that were balls in situations that really mattered.
  7. If the Twins do not make the playoffs, Ty France will not be the main reason.
  8. Why remove defense from consideration. Some defenders are better than others and the players know who they are when they come to bat. To put it in another way, the outcome for a ball that hangs in air for 2.5 seconds that Buxton has to move 50 ft to catch is not the same as a similar ball the Wallner has to move 50 ft to catch.
  9. The problem the Twins have at the trade deadline is that the offensive positions they are most below league average is SS, 3B and C. It is really hard to move any of these players for an improvement. The best to hope for is that Correa, Lewis and Ryan improve. Hope is a poor strategy. But making a trade for 1B were France is about league average will not offset the dismal production on the left side of the infield.
  10. I think it is a really good idea to have someone who can throw 4 innings when our starters get 5 or less. It would save the bullpen. Good luck to Travis Adams. I hope to read about a lot of good pitching from him over the next many years.
  11. “Finally, Keaschall was moved to the 60-day IL and is expected to be out for the foreseeable future although should return this season.” The original projected return date was end of June. Has there been any info communicated that it will be much longer than that. The injury occurred at the end of April, so a 60 day IL can align with the original return estimate.
  12. DH. Jim Thome’s 2010 season was better. 283 .412 .627 25 HR and 59 RBIs
  13. This was in the WSJ but can also be found elsewhere. Tony Clark and other MLBPA executives are being investigated for allegedly siphoning off some of the windfall generated from their arrangement with OneTeam Partners. The link below gives a detailed explanation of what is known. OneTeam Partners was formed to capitalize on players marketing rights and a portion of the proceeds are distributed back to the players. The payments are known as “Madden Checks” OneTeam Partners is not thought to be under investigation https://frontofficesports.com/mlbpa-oneteam-tony-clark-federal-investigation/ Not linking the WSJ article as it is behind a paywall. It appears in the June 5, 2025 print edition on pg A14.
  14. How to manage the Royce Lewis 3B situation is problematic. Baring a season ending trip to the IL, bringing in an additional 3B likely facilitates a divorce. Also, a return to the earlier version of Lewis is better than most available external options. A fellow TD member mentioned that Alex Bregman might be available. If so, he is likely the best option. At $40 million/ year he is not likely for the Twins and his opt out after this season complicates trade discussions.
  15. Lee was considered the best college hitter in the draft and dropped In the draft because of his injury history (back) in college.
  16. Lopez left last nights game with right shoulder tightness. I haven’t seen an injury update, but just when we think the Twins have expendable pitching someone gets hurt.
  17. Defense is really the challenge as you have pointed out. While I understand the logic and flexibility of having multiple utility players, how the Twins have constructed their roster means they are below average defensively at multiple positions.
  18. I am very happy that us Twins fans are finally getting to see a healthy Buxton. I think he is being given too much credit for a few opposite field hits. Elementary students learning baseball are taught to hit an outside pitch to the opposite field. It is one of the skills that has seemingly become rare in today’s game.
  19. The challenge is that the Twins are in need of more than one bat. The needs are 1B, 3B and possibly LF. Bader, after a hot start is cooling.
  20. I think the reason is about availability and managerial flexibility. A RP who throws only one inning will be available the next day. This availability then needs to be weighed against winning a game tomorrow vs burnout and also protecting a pitchers career.
  21. There was article in the WSJ sometime ago about the San Francisco Giants asking their minor league pitchers to throw deeper into the game. I have no idea how successful this will be. All of MLB realizes that there is a pitching utilization problem. There not many solutions. Ask starters to pitch more. Ask relievers to throw more innings per outing but with less frequency. Expand the roster (includes increasing number of times a player can be sent to the minors in a season). Get position players to pitch. https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/mlb/baseball-s-pitch-to-fix-pitchers-make-them-throw-more/ar-AA1D1Lv8
  22. I think this level of usage for a relief pitcher is approaching burnout. While they may have success for 1 or 2 years their effectiveness will not be sustained.
  23. I thought France had a very slow release on the last play
  24. Also a poor slide by Wallner. If he slides feet first he is likely safe. Agree that it was a poor send.
