    The Twins did it back in the 60's. And the fifth batter got booked because he hit a double that missed going out by a couple feet.

    Picture yourself as the manager of the Twins. Your starter went four innings and one gave up one hit and one run but also walked six. He's already thrown more pitches than in any other game this year. Would you pull him? I think you probably would. Your four bullpen options are Duffy, Moran, Thornburg, and Cotton. The others were not available without risking arm injury. You go to Moran and then Duffy. Surprise! They give you three scoreless innings. It's now the bottom of the eighth and you have a 3-1 lead. You look to the bullpen and all you have to work with are Thornburg an Cotton. Who would you go to? Cotton, who gave up the winning run yesterday, or Thornburg who is pretty rested? To me, there isn't any choice other than Thornburg and it did not turn out well. But I think Baldelli's decision is absolutely defendable. What's the old saying? You don't go to a gun fight with a knife? Well, that's the position he has been put it.

    You still don't get it. I am saying I don't like metrics because the end results are predicated on how the algorithms are designed. The fact that Correa is mentioned is because that's who was being mentioned in the article and, in my opinion, it is an inaccurate representation of his performance.

    I dislike a metrics based analysis of baseball and there is a perfect example of why in the article above. "Kirilloff's fly out in the second left his bat at 98.9 MPH." So what? If he had hit it 68.9 MPH, maybe it would have dropped in. An out is still an out no matter how hard you hit the ball. And yes I know the arguments about how much better it is to hit it hard, but good contact can be seen with the good old eye test.

    Did I say "manipulate them to say Correa is bad"? No, I did not. I just said that I don't put my faith in them.

    Two brief comments. 1. How many of you predicted the Archer and Bundy would be the best pitches in June? 2. How many prospects does it take to make a trade for both Marquez and Bard? (Sounds like the start of a bad joke.)

    The metrics say that Correa is a bad defender. I think that is all I need to hear to eliminate analytic metrics from any discussion of baseball. As someone who worked with statistics his entire career, I know they can be manipulated to prove anything you want. I've done it. It's easy, deceptive, and should be immoral. But I worked with government and DOD so it was required.

    How about Polanco, Steer, and Sands for Alcantara?

    Polanco is also someone a team trying to improve would agree to take in a trade (probably along with a prospect or two) for someone who might help them now.

    Yes, the Twins are doing a job with Miranda. But is that job good or bad? ???

    The Twins could always trade Polanco at the deadline and insert Miranda at 2B.

    In Baldelli's first three years, he averaged 17 steals a season. I think he has a grasp on the concept.

    Just Say No! - to Jace Jung. The Twins do not need another "strong bat with a questionable defensive future." They have enough of those already.

    Excellent point! I remember when Killebrew got his first $100,000 contract. What a shocking amount.

    My experience at umpiring agrees with you. I don't remember ever using the catcher's glove as a point of reference. Of course, I have to also add that I don't remember why I got up so early either.

    Or if the Twins just would score one more run than the opponents, they would win.

    Relief is the smarter route to take. Especially with the Dodgers, Braves,and others looking for starters (my source for that is the two former general managers on MLB radio on Sirius XM).

    Rocco waited too long. Rocco pulled him too fast. Come on folks. Make up your mind!

    One worry I have about pursuing Montas or Castillo is that the Dodgers will also be doing the same thing. Their pitching has been hit by the injury bug and they will be very active. It's tough competing against them for trade partners.

    Your comment just proves the Baldelli cannot do anything right in the minds of some fans.

    And how does any of the above relate to Baldelli's mindset late in games? Or did you forget which thread you were reading? Your post should probably be in the trades and rule 5 thread.
