  1. Agreed, I think we've seen the last of Lewis in a Twins uniform. Too bad for him and the team both.
  2. Really great to see Canterino back. Hope he stays healthy the rest of the year and gets some work in.
  3. Why is Burrows still on this team? One appearance in a week when four guys pitched three times and everyone else pitched twice. What are we learning about him?
  4. I turned off the game and thought Berrios might have cost himself some real money by falling apart in the seventh inning. Really a shame for the team. I wonder whether other teams think that's just who he is, or if it was bad luck. Because we've seen enough to think it's just who he is. I was watching the game with my mother (turns 87 on Thursday). During the last at-bat of the sixth she said "He's tired, better get him out of there." When he came out for the seventh she said it was a bad idea. She and Rocco should talk.
  5. Agreed, but it wasn't my statement. I think we have some good prospects at short.
  6. "Sounds logical, but for two things: 1. Their overriding need is pitching so why not use their second highest pick for another high risk/high upside guy? 2. The 2022 FA market is loaded with proven SS. Rather go that route than wait 4-5 years for a HS prospect(assuming we're in a retool stage than rebuild). And if these FAs are all too pricey, I would resign Simmons. From everything I've read, none of the SSs on the 40 man roster, nor any other non-40 man minor league player, is said to have the skills needed in a ML SS." I was just arguing with the logic, not the statement. If the system needs shortstops badly, as the poster suggested, we should get one, not refuse to draft one. I certainly don't think a HS shortstop is going to be in the majors in two years, and I also certainly haven't given up on Lewis or on everyone. Just seemed like a statement that deserved a little more thought behind it.
  7. If you believe they have failed with all the shortstops in the system (some of whom they didn't draft), doesn't drafting a shortstop seem like a priority?
  8. I wonder if there's ever been a Twins team with 5 ex-players on it before. We got value for Pressly and Escobar. Rijo may still turn into a player from the Lynn deal.
  9. That might be- Steve Stone was basically done after his Cy Young year and says he knew he was throwing too many curves and wrecking his elbow, but as he said, you don't get many chances to win a Cy Young. On the other hand, you have guys like Frank Tanana who were fireballers, got hurt, and then started throwing breaking balls because they no longer had heat. I suppose different injuries lead to different outcomes. I think he had a shoulder problem, though I'm not sure I remember that correctly.
  10. There were an awful lot of guys back in the day who had a really good three-year run and then were never the same. Consider Dave Boswell from the Twins. 19 years old in 1964, 23 IP. Worked his way up to 106 IP, then 169, then 222, 190, and in 1969 he threw 256 innings at age 24. Went 20-12 with 10 complete games, ERA+ of 115. That was it- he threw a total of 130 innings over the next 4 years. Career over at age 24. He said that his career effectively ended when he threw a slider to Frank Robinson in the tenth inning of a game (he lost 1-0 in 11 innings).
  11. And we were all so looking forward to putting 2020 behind us. Be careful what you wish for, I guess. Good luck, Mr. Enlow, I hope the recovery goes well and perhaps you are fortunate to be able to sit out the rest of this train wreck.
  12. Absolutely inept in the field, no clutch hitting, no apparent thinking. Granted, there are a lot of injuries, but can't even minor leaguers generally be expected to catch and throw the ball accurately most of the time? Reliever has a great inning, hey he threw 12 pitches, gotta get him out of there so we can bring in...anyone. Ridiculous. I continue to believe that Astudillo has no business being on a major league team (I know, everyone loves him etc), but he's just one problem in a whole broken toolbox right now. Just think what the score would have been if the Yankees were hitting at all. Tonight should be another laugh-fest. Clown show describes this pretty well. I've never been so disappointed in a Twins season, not even close.
  13. These games were closer than the Twins game??? The Falklands War was closer than this game. The "war" also lasted 72 days, roughly as long as the first two innings last night and hopefully about as long as Shoemaker's career with the Twins. (The United Kingdom vs. Argentina in 1982, for you young 'uns.)
  14. Happy to trade Donaldson for anyone who might be able to help us in the next few years. That does not include anyone mentioned in this article.
  15. My understanding was that Donaldson would make us a better team, as long as he could stay on the field. I believe that I was badly misled.
  16. New Twins strategy: pitch a shutout, have a chance. I've never been this disappointed in a Twins team, ever. Very short time left to man up and right the ship.
  17. Gagne was very solid with a strong arm. Simmons appears to have far more range and surer hands. I don't think there's any real comparison, and I thought Gagne was a good player.
  18. Trust the process...grrr...trust the process...argh...trust the process...don't say bad things...trust the process...*#$&$%^ Sorry, just couldn't hold it in any longer.
  19. In related news, Anderson needs ligament surgery and will be out half the season. Bad break. Great news for both parties here, I think. Let's hope Dobnak gets some good financial advice. He's only set for life if he plans for it. My guess is he's got that under control. I hope it's true, for him and all the other players who sign good multi-year deals. I have a friend who worked as a financial planner for a sports agency. She said that it was an incredible chore keeping players from investing in whatever their friends thought was a good idea (Burger King franchises were very popular ideas for a while). She also said that of all the athletes, baseball players were the hardest to manage because a lot of them had not only never been to college but sometimes hadn't finished high school and the amounts of money just seemed unlimited to them. Not much life experience or trying to manage money independently. Fortunately for Randy he's got a ton of life experience. It would be interesting to know what kind of help agents give, or don't give, their clients and how it varies.
  20. Sorry that a quote from a radio announcer has you so perturbed. They must be working on their deliveries as well. Haven't we heard about pitchers using spring training games to work on location many times before? It was his second appearance. The way it was worded was kind of strange, but that's what I took it to mean. Anyway, I have no idea if Happ is going to be a decent #4 or not, but I hope (and expect) that the Dobber gets a chance and does well.
  21. Eno Sarris has his fantasy rankings for starters published at The Athletic. Fun read. #10 Giolito #14 Maeda #19 Berrios #23 Lynn He has Keuchel 12 spots ahead of Pineda Happ 14 ahead of Cease Shoemaker 64 ahead of Rodon Kopech and Dobnak rank about even Thorpe is listed about even with Rodon. So only one major difference, and that's at the fifth starter spot. Should be an interesting season!
  22. All I know is what I hear on the radio. It sounded like kind of a weird thing to say. It sounded to me like the announcer thought Happ was throwing the pitches that were called and the Orioles were getting batting practice.
  23. I listened to the Baltimore game last week when he got roughed up a bit. The Oriole announcers said he was pretty clearly just working on hitting specific spots. They made it sound like he wasn't getting hammered, he was just doing what he thought he needed to work on and if the Orioles hit him, so be it. Hopefully he's getting ready. And I wouldn't be disappointed to see the Dobber get a chance either.
