  1. I think the voters get to put ten players on the ballot, right? You can believe Mike Trout is the MVP and still give Cruz and eight other players some consideration.
  2. Hey Scooter, that party at my house- we decided to move it. I'll let you know where it's going to be, unless I lost your phone number.
  3. Oh, heck, I'll take next Tuesday. I would have picked Sunday, but with off days on Thursday and Monday I didn't want to be too aggressive.
  4. The name Spencer Steer has appeared really frequently in these writeups. Is there someone at the higher levels of the minors that would be a good comp?
  5. Love the Dylan call. When I own the team we will play “Tangled up in blue” during replays! Like a rolling stone when Cron gets on base. Desolation Road when we walk the lead off batter. When announcing a demotion: stuck inside of Mobile with the Memphis blues again.
  6. Yeah, I think the crowd singing to pre-recorded music is just fine. I think the national anthem is more national and more of an anthem if everyone (or at least those who want to) sings rather than listening to an elementary school choir try to do so. The Fenway crowd signing Sweet Caroline is pretty fun too. .
  7. The first game in Miami featured a national anthem singer who managed to sing parts of the song it at least three different keys. I don’t value bad singing at games. This especially true for the celeb of the day ‘singing’ at Wrigley. If we have to do this, do it right or do it pre-recorded.
  8. If throwing at players is not acceptable, then the umpires screwed up since apparently everyone on the field knew it was coming. If you are not trying to win, then don't shift. And throw strikes if you want to get the game over with faster. When Cave's in arbitration will the team be willing to adjust his statistics for the at-bats where he wasn't supposed to try?
  9. Yeah, how many of us expected to be a part of the bullpen this time of the year? Not many, I'm guessing.
  10. Is there any timeline for Buxton's (probably temporary) return to the lineup? Man, I love the guy, but geez. I really think the Twins' radio spots should have Buxton doing the ad for the MRI, not Kepler. That doesn't make sense. Let Kepler sell the Sheboygan sausages.
  11. Yeah, based on Martin's response to the swing he was probably in the dugout long before Acuna got there.
  12. Hmm...quoting a fictional character who committed numerous felonies using firearms about how to negotiate. Interesting rhetorical device.
  13. I like the Twins' two pickups. I'll tell you how much I like them in a couple of months. OK, let's settle the betting pool- who had "Yankees zero acquisitions"? No one??? that's what I thought.
  14. Quick, name all the teams that have had multiple games cancelled by snowstorms in the last two years...
  15. Twins have won 3 in a row, now just 2 games back of Houston for 2nd best record in the AL. Let's' keep this going! I'm feeling a lot better about the bullpen now. Go Twins.
  16. Nice article! Here's a quick followup on the players we traded. Escobar- signed a new contract with AZ, having a great year. .284/.341/.873 with 22 HR, 80 RBI. Pressly- still controlled by Houston and doing great, as you pointed out. 2 W, 2 L, 2.03 ERA, 0.86 WHIP. Duke- now with Cincinnati. 3 W, 1 L, 5.01 ERA, 1.67 WHIP, Lynn- now with Texas. 13 W, 6 L, 3.83 ERA, 1.22 WHIP. Dozier- now with Washington. .241/.343/.781, 15 HR, 39 RBI. Rodney: now with Washington. 0 W, 4 L, 5.92 ERA, 1.96 WHIP.
  17. Adding Puig makes the Indians better, except on days when it makes them worse. Let's hope for a lot of the latter days.
  18. Man, I'd love to play with a guy like that. That's an attitude that could elevate an bunch of young relievers.
  19. I really like having a veteran guy in the bullpen, given that we currently have...who, Tyler Duffey and Taylor Rogers as our most senior guys? Not counting May, whose seniority mostly comes on IR. Happy to add more, of course, but this is a good piece. The second pitcher seems to have at least as much of a shot as Diaz, at a position of much greater need. I don't see how the Twins would have added Diaz to the 40-man next year, realistically. I'm happy not to see him traded for "cash considerations".
  20. We need to hit them hard and early, help the Sox feel badly about their prospects. Time for the bats to stay hot. It would be nice if we could refill the bullpen quickly, too. Has any team ever designated this many relievers in this short a time frame before? It's like a mini-contraction. Or a fire(man) sale.
  21. I was stunned that the Twins made a trade for a real player, though I was nervous about giving up Kielty. That took about a week, then it was great. Watching Kielty quickly fade away made it an even more obvious big win since I thought he was going to be a better player than ended up being the case. I remember the Twins trading for Chris Speier in August 1984. Played 12 games, OPS+ of 34.
  22. Or as we used to say about a former employer's approach: there are no secrets here. Just things we don't tell anyone.
