  1. I say we send Polanco here...but then I'm insane.
  2. Kipnis hit that ball in the 8th and my immediate thought was "Rocket- Buxton's got it". He's unbelievable. This was one of the most exciting Twins game of my nearly 57 years, most of them slavishly watching the Twins.
  3. Foreshadowing, the sign of a quality motion picture!
  4. And my Buxton mancrush now threatens the sanctity of my married life. On a different note, all those thoughts I had about how we might be able to get Vargas in the lineup have pretty much gone away. His last home run was dismissed by my brain as meaningless, since it was the seventh of the game. He has not shined in the meaningful moments.
  5. My Buck Mancrush is just raging right now.
  6. Last year the Twins hit 200 home runs (and a lot of good they did), the first time they hit that mark since 1964 (and the only other year was 1963). The 1987 team hit 196 and the 2004 version got 191. This year they are on pace to hit 195, but since I'm guessing September gets more homers than April, they ought to be able to do it. If the pace of the last week keeps up they might get there by Labor Day. The franchise low was 4 HRs, done a couple of times. In 1917, the team had 4 HRs and 70 triples. The home field was National Stadium, later Griffith Stadium, where the left field corner was over 400 feet from home plate.
  7. Gibson...what the heck was that?? I think winning Powerball was more likely than getting out of the second and third with no runs. I argued to DFA him during his last start. Now we should trade him, right now, I mean by noon. Pretend we're throwing in the towel, say we're cutting next year's payroll, do whatever it takes. Get something now before Bad Gibby takes the mound again. Good thing I didn't order that Melville jersey. Now a Curtiss jersey...
  8. I've been impressed with Busenitz and hope he plays a bigger and bigger role.
  9. Nick Gordon had two 0-4's and now hasn't played in a couple of days. Do you know if he's got anything wrong?
  10. If the autograph comes from Eddie, my guess is it will be sent Special High-Speed Delivery but end up at the wrong house. <rim shot>
  11. Best wishes to Brandon- a great story, and I wish him all the best. Here's to working hard! PS, I hope I get to see you pitch in the Series this fall.
  12. Phil Cuzzi and Paul Molitor should both be on the unemployment line tomorrow. Neither one can do his job.
  13. As the discussions about who was first kept going, I found myself more and more convinced that the right answer was "not a pitcher". I was surprised but not unhappy that they took the HS field player, who I think may not have the highest possible upside of all picks (Greene, no doubt), but also has the highest likely floor (very low chance of career-ending injury at very early age) and really good tools. Tyler Jay's injury, the latest in a long line of top pitching picks who have had similar results, just makes me more convinced. Cost savings or not, I like the pick. And I do think they saved some money by drafting a player higher than he expected and paying him less than slot, spreading it around to get more signings from better players than otherwise would have happened. Maybe it could have worked out better, but my guess is that five years from now this is going to look like the best Twins draft in quite a while.
  14. I am sick and tired of seeing Rosario throw to the wrong base, or throw to no base at all. He's made mental mistakes at least twice in the last week that have given runners a chance to move up to scoring position for absolutely no reason. He just got his second stolen base of the year last night, which puts him one ahead of Gimenez...except Rosario has been thrown out three times. I'd love to give Granite a shot. Maybe it sparks Rosario to think a little more carefully, or maybe Granite does well.
  15. Mmmm....Hamm's..... RB, that was a great explanation of South Dakota politics, where everything definitely tilts to the right- turns out it is the southeast, too.
  16. I don't know that they have the same routine, it does seem like we are hearing about more and more variations. One answer, which I don't mean to sound snarky, is that perhaps a lot of pitchers have the same routines for the same reasons a lot of players don't believe in them fancy new-fangled nerd stats.
  17. It also may have been an easy way to end the distraction of someone hanging around waiting to see what happens. I wonder if a player would prefer to be traded to a team he may not have chosen, or released to sit in limbo and hope for offers from places he'd like to be. Depends on the situation, I suppose.
