  1. Thanks- I'd characterize that as however long it takes to show he's back to pre-injury form. That makes sense to me.
  2. Fair enough- what do you think constitutes "proving himself" for a prospect? Two full seasons somewhere? A year at AA or above? I'm never quite sure where that line is for myself and it's interesting to hear what others use. The age-old potential vs. track record debate, I suppose. Anyway, just wondering what your personal stance is on that.
  3. Agreed with above, another Matt Lawton would be a nice piece to have.
  4. MLB.com lists Wander Javier as one of "12 prospects who just missed the top 100", saying "Javier could shoot up the top shortstops list in a hurry." https://www.mlb.com/news/12-prospects-who-just-missed-the-top-100-list/c-265553816
  5. Plus we've done pretty well trading for and trading him, so I'm willing to get back into that market.
  6. Agreed, though I think it might be more accurate to say that he hits well off the Twins. Even a better reason not to sign him!
  7. Eddie Rosario: figure out when to either hit the cutoff man or just throw to second to keep the runner from advancing. Then go to the All-Star game.
  8. I like the trade but would like it a lot better for 3 years of control rather than just two.
  9. mlb.com says that the Tigers would listen to offers for Michael Fulmer. Not a huge stud, but maybe we can trade with Gardy...Casilla, Lew Ford, Duensing, and Toby Gardenhire to manage one of their minor league teams? Get 'er done!
  10. Agree with jimmer and Linus. Very glad to see Joe with a 3.4 WAR rather than the 1 or 2 the last few years. I'm thankful we don't have the Ghost of Albert Pujols signed for four more years at an average salary of $28.5 million (plus a $10 million personal services contract after the baseball contract expires).
  11. I'm still amazed that Stuart Turner stuck with the Reds all season, with a short DL stint. 82 at-bats...not much of a season. The Reds didn't have much to lose, I guess.
  12. If a 4 means better than a marginal major leaguer, I'll take the under on Turley. He's going to be in ML bullpens, I bet, but I don't think he's going to be a major part of a good one. I was a little sorry to see him go, though, but of course I'm interested to see what happens with the new additions. After being worse with the Yankees for a year than he was with the Twins, Aaron Hicks had a great half-season this year, then fought injuries. I hope he has a good career, but he's not exactly David Ortiz yet. Swarzak's had a good year, a bad one, and a very good one since he left. Swarzak's 32 already- how did that happen?
  13. Buzzkill...In related news, every cute kitten will die someday. I'd like to win a playoff game soon. Then we can go from there. Let's get some pitchers. Do this.
  14. Good Reliever = Fine Closer, except when it doesn't. Ash pointed out the Ron Davis example, and LaTroy Hawkins is another one. He went 14/14 in save opportunities in 2000, came in as the New Big Closer and promptly went 28/37. He got moved to earlier situations and was great, so the Cubs signed him as closer. 25 saves in 34 chances. I guess my advice is that once it's clear it isn't working, better move on rather than hope things change.
  15. Quick update from the AFL, games as of 10/15 The Surprise Saguaros (did they not know they were Saguaros?) are 2-3. Chris Paul, 3 games, 5/12 with 1 BB, 1 K .417 BA .962 OPS LaMonte Wade, 4 games, 2/14 with 3 BB, 1 K .143 BA, .548 OPS Sean Miller, 2 games, 1/9 with O BB, 3 Ks .111 BA, .222 OPS Tyler Jay, 2 games, 2 IP, 1 H, 0 BB, 3 Ks Andrew Vasquez, 2 games, 2 IP, 1 H, 0 BB, 3Ks Ryan Eades, 2 games, 2 IP, 2 H, 1 R (unearned), 1 BB, 1 K Tom Hackimer, 1 game, 1 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 1 K Zero earned runs so far. If we're placing bets on the fall season, I'll put $100 on the over, but I like how the pitching has started out of the gate.
  16. Wow, this might have been at least kind of fun without the constant bitching. Have a great night everyone.
  17. We got one of those, too. Let's get some more.
  18. C'mon Jose- good stuff, just stay in control.
  19. All right, we held us scoreless! Now let's do the same to them.
  20. Just asking- do you get invited to many birthday parties?
  21. All right, if that was the obligatory ScrewTheTwins call, all it did was get it even. We can still win this thing.
  22. All right, 8-inning game. Here we go. Just like it was 0-0.
