  1. Would be fun to see if his power translates to the MLB. Could be Santanas replacement next year if he has a good spring.
  2. I get that Keirsey is a late bloomer and not on the 40 man which hurts his chances of a call up. But with Kepler leaving next year out outfield will probably be Larnach in left, Buck in center and Wallner in right. Both corners are bigger slower power guys, I think a speedy Keirsey who can play all three OF spots well, would be a solid 4rth outfielder. Both Camargo and Severino have been mashing for St Paul this year. Too bad we're stuck with Vasquez another year, otherwise I think Camargo would get his shot. I'd like to see Severino getting reps at first base. With his crazy power I'd like to see if it translates to the majors. Maybe he could be our home run hitting long term first baseman we've been needing. I will say he'd need to limit his strikeouts for this to work, but it could happen.
  3. Ober has probably been our best starter lately. Nice to see him going so deep into games. We need to keep him healthy for October. Alcala has finally put it all together. Saw him hit 101 mph this year. As long as he keeps his walks in check he'll be a solid set up man for years to come. I like Sands too. That splitter is filthy. I think if we get anything out of Stewart or Topa this year it will be a real bonus. I think it's time however to put Varland out in the bullpen, same with Paddack if we ever get him back. They looked good in the bullpen last year and they can always come on in long relief to rest some of our other arms as needed down the stretch. Ps, Theilbar needs to be released immediately, but won't happen because we're desperate for lefties.
  4. I always liked good ole' Doofy. Hope he finds success. Just not against us:) Royals pitching got better, we better be careful or they'll pass us up for the second wild card spot.
  5. Who could have seen this coming? Twins bust on another trade deadline and then for the next week we get daily articles explaining why it wasn't our guy's fault. The asking prices were too high, nobody wanted to trade with us in division, we have NO money to add any salary whatsoever......Oh wait no, Falvey said that wasn't the case now lol. Really dude? Asking prices are high sure, but that's what it takes to win a championship. Nobody would do intra division trades. Really? The Royals were able to figure it out. Money is not an issue? Then why did we not add anyone of real value when the needs of this team are obvious even to the occasional fan. Not to mention why we haven't dumped some of the dead weight on this team like Farmer or Theilbar. Well we're stuck paying them, so we have to keep playing them even if they sacrifice wins. It's insane... We have a good minor league system, you can't tell me there's nobody to replace those two that would not easily put produce them by a mile.
  6. The deal for Chafin from DET was dirt cheap but I understand the asking price would have been way higher for us in the division. But you can't tell me Aj Puk wasn't attainable for us. He's exactly what we needed, a good left handed reliever. Plus he has two more years of control. A perfect replacement for Theilbar as our go to lefty. He is on a cheap contract and all it took was two mid level prospects. When I saw that, I knew we were passing on the deadline.
  7. As long as the rest of the team, especially our stars, aren't striking out a ton, then we can deal with a higher K rate from Wallner. If it comes with HR power. Still would like to see him continue to develop and get his K rate down below 30%. If he can stay healthy, keep his strikeouts manageable, he has 30 HR type power, plus a cannon of an arm. He'll most likely be our starting right fielder next year, so hopefully he can put a whole season together for the first time. I think we'll need to look at a FA for the left field job, but that's a problem for the off-season.
  8. I thought players could only be traded or claimed if they haven't been on a MLB roster or MLB IL all year? Twins can still make waiver claims for major league players? That's news to me, but I don't see us grabbing anyone else. I think we're hoping for returns of Stewart and Topa. I hope they move Varland to the bullpen. I think he's cooked as a starter but could possibly be a real relief weapon for us like he was late last year.
  9. Severino and his raw power look real nice right now. Led the minors with 35 hr last year, might hit another 30 this year. If he can keep his strikeouts within reason maybe he takes the first base job next year. Santana isn't resigning. Severino has the typical 1b power. Switch hitter. Him at 1st, Lee/Julien at second. Correa at SS and Lewis/Miranda at third. Not a bad infield. If Severino isn't in our long term plans, I would think he'd have a lot of interest from other teams as a good trade piece. Personally, I'd love to see if his crazy power translates to MLB and he hits 30 homers for us. Or, he turns into a k machine, Sano 2.0?
  10. We have some very important games against CLE and I believe one more series with KC. If we can get healthy and play well in those games we have a real good postseason shot. It'd be great to catch the Guardians, win the division and get a bye. We do NOT want to play the Yankees in a three game wildcard series. We all know how that will end...
  11. We get it. Ownership is cheap and has hamstrung the GM and limited his ability to acquire players. Even if Falvey is towing the company line and not blaming financial limitations for our pathetic deadline. The team is what it is. Now we need to get healthy, stay healthy and perform well. Particularly in the 8 games against Cleveland. Pretty sure those two series will determine the division winner this year.
  12. Good team win. Hopefully Lopez can continue this really good run he's on throughout the second half. I'm worried about our bullpen, especially after losing Stewart. Who knows if we'll get him back at all. Hopefully Topa is not too far away. Other than him, I think we should try Varland out there like we did last year. It's past time to give up on him as a starter. If he can be a hard throwing late inning guy that would be a huge boost for us. I really like Lee, but he looks a bit overwhelmed at the plate right now. I think he gets sent down when Correa gets activated. Lees a good player though. His defense has been great. He'll be back. He's an integral part of the Twins long term plans. I'm guessing he has the starting 2nd base job next year. Especially if Julien doesn't make drastic improvements.
  13. Obers been great, real fun to watch. I'd still like to see him pitch like he did against Detroit while facing some of the better teams in the league before I'm completely sold. I really think Rocco needs to do something to keep Lopez, Ryan and Ober fresh for the postseason. If we make it there of course. I like the idea of trying out Varland, Dobnak and Paddack if we get him back as long relief guys. We have to find a way to keep our starters fresh and healthy without blowing out our bullpen.
  14. Remember back in like 2009-10 when ownership said if we give them a new stadium, then they were going to start adding payroll, signing stars and bring a championship to MN? Lol now they cut payroll, screw up TV rights and then adding insult to injury, they blame this on the fans and poor attendance. What a slap in the face to us fans. Players too. Even if they decided to try to sign some free agents in the off-season (won't happen) why would any player want to come play here with this financial mess of ownership?
  15. I find it hard to understand this lineup. All year it's been the same. Either hitting great, like on of the best lineups in the MLB. Or, we're getting shut out and striking out 15 times. Where's the consistency? Last night was a real eye opener. Our three best bats Buxton Lewis and Miranda went what, 0-11 with ten k's? Buxton w the golden sombrero and Lewis with three? If this is what we're going to get the rest of the way there's no way we even make the playoffs.
  16. Nice to see Topa pitching well in AAA. Hopefully it won't be too much longer until we get him called up, we need the help. I also like the idea of a Dobnak/Festa or Festa/Dobnak opener or piggyback situation. Save the bullpen some innings and give Dobnak a chance to fight for a rotation spot. Another three strikeouts for Julien:(. What happened to him? He's striking out at like a 40 percent mark. He needs a total rework of his swing. Maybe send him down to A ball for awhile like they did with Sano years ago. Whatever he's doing this year is clearly not working. He is sapping his value away day after day...
  17. He needs to show he's even healthy first before we can pin our hopes on him to be our lefty. Look what happened with Stewart. I think the best way to shore up the bullpen is to get Stewart and Topa healthy, then move Varland and eventually Paddack into relief roles. Maybe Paddack and Festa switch places depending on who's pitching better. Would love to see Headrick if he can get healthy and productive quick. Love to see Zebby too, but that's a lot to ask out of a guy who's had one start at AAA.
  18. I think we have a decent 1-3 in Lopez, Over and Ryan. I get that we have some young SP coming up like SWR, Festa and Mathews, but we are one injury away from a pathetic rotation if we lose any of our top 3. We really needed bullpen help. Puk would have been very attainable for us and was the perfect fit for us. We need to play well in our 8 games against the Guardians of we're going to have any shot at all of even making the playoffs. I know anything can happen once you get there, but I have a hard time seeing anything other than a 3 game sweep early exit from playoffs with our pitching staff as it is.
  19. This team looks to have absolutely no fight to them lately. No momentum whatsoever. What's even more alarming is this lineup is looking more and more like the lineup from the start of the year when we were striking out 12-15 times per game. Hopefully tomorrows lineup isn't a typical Rocco rubber game lineup with no Lewis, Buxton or Miranda. I really think our playoff chances are going to hinge on the 8 games we play against Cleveland. Hopefully we can get fully healthy and on a bit of a roll before we play them. Since we didn't upgrade our pitching at all, anyone think there's a chance we see Zebby out of the bullpen? I think Varland will be first man up, but if he struggles like he has as a starter, we're going to need someone to pitch quality innings
  20. Didn't get the starter or impact lefty reliever we needed. This guy would be a DFA candidate on a lot of teams. Our bullpen is in real trouble. Time to move Varland there, hope Stewart isn't out too much longer and can regain his form, hope Topa makes his debut soon and pitches well. That's a lot of hoping and lots of pitchers needing to pitch above their ability. With both CLE and KC improving, I wouldn't be surprised if we miss the playoffs completely. This team looks to have no fire or fight in them. And the front offices decision not to even try to improve the team for the stretch run has to be bad for morale...very frustrating as a fan.
  21. So far this deadline we've lost Stewart and Staumont and replaced them with Dobnak and Richards..... There's got to be a joke here somewhere.
  22. Yup, guess we're staking our "upgrade" hopes on Dobnak dnd Topa lol. Wouldn't be surprised if KC passes us up and we miss the playoffs altogether:(
  23. Haven't heard much about Plutko, SP for the Saints? Between him, Mathews, Morris, and Festa we should have some decent competition for final two rotation spots next year. I just hope we can turn one of these guys into a TOR type starter. We seemingly have a huge supply of number 4 -5's....
  24. I'm guessing we do nothing at all by the deadline. They'll say we have all these reinforcements on the way in Correa, Farmer, Topa, Paddack and Varland. I just think without some serious pitching upgrades, me may just miss the playoffs altogether, which would make us lose out on more money from the playoffs bonuses....
  25. Sad state of affairs when a playoff hopeful team can't afford to upgrade ANYTHING on the team.
