  1. Nice outing by Cory Lewis. Prelipp seems to remind me of Canterino (remember that guy)? Absolutely lights out IF we can just keep him healthy. It's hard not to be optimistic about our pitching pipeline of late. Zebby, Festa, Morris are probably closest. Still say we need another SP vet in our rotation for next year. Lower down we have Lewis, Raya, Culpepper, Rozek, maybe Canterino. Sure looks like Okert isn't making it back to A major league mound anytime soon. We couldn't even get a random A baller for him at this point. Sad that EVERYONE signed to pitch for us this year was a total bust. Seeing as it looks like we're not going to go out and sign anyone real, the Twins will be increasingly dependant on our minor league system. Hard to rely SOLELY on that, but we'll see, we've got some good promising players coming up
  2. With our stars hurt or slumping, 2 out of five starters that should still be in AAA and a bullpen held together with spit and glue it's really not looking like our year. Call up Keirsey and Eeles, dump Farmer and Margot and see if we can find any studs for next year. Sad take, but after scoring what, 5 runs the last two series does anyone think we look like a playoff team? I'm guessing a third wildcard spot at best quickly followed by an embarrassing 2 game sweep, one or both being blowouts. Getting beat by 10 runs in a playoff game will not be a good look for this team...
  3. Good game from Pablo, heck of a streak he's on. It looks like he made a real adjustment. Sacrificing a ton of strikeouts for quicker ground outs so he can go deeper into games. Rocco will take that everyday. I was so mad, yet totally unsurprised to see the 0-29 Margot pinch hit for Larnach. Why does he keep putting him out there, Larnach was a much better option, lefty or no. Plus, Margot is a TERRIBLE late game defensive sub. He's a butcher out there, which is why I'd like to see if Keirsey can outperform him. Wouldn't take much. Lewis and Castro look lost at the plate. That's all we need is for one of them to go down now too. The lineup is looking as burnt out as the bullpen lately. The only part of the team looking good now is the rotation, and how long can that last?
  4. Nice to see Morris and Raya pitch good games. I worry about the walks though. Not just these two, but it seems to be an organization problem. Other than Zebby it seems all our top pitching prospects have the same story. Great stuff, lots of K's, but a ton of walks. Maybe it's just the last skill pitchers develop these days. Keirsey and Eeles just keep on hitting. I hope we don't lose these guys in the off-season, they could be good depth pieces for us. Everyone knows you can NEVER have too much pitching, but with the Twins injury problems and injury prone stars, you can NEVER have too much depth in the field either.
  5. Doesn't look all that soft the way we've been playing. Relying on the schedule and hoping for other teams to start losing is not s good playoff strategy. Twins are going to have to find a way to get hot and win some series. It would help a lot of we could get Lee back this week and then get Buxton back for the big weekend series against KC. I think the games remaining against KC and CLE will determine the AL Central playoff picture. We need our best players out there for all these games.
  6. It just seems real sad to me that our teo "superstars", our highest paid players, can't be bothered to play these very important games to get us into the playoffs. But, if the rest of the team is able to rally and get us in as a wildcard team, both Correa and Buxton will swoop in at the last moment to play in the playoffs in front of a national audience. Not a good look, our highest paid players are way too comfortable sitting on the IL for long periods of time. I know Bucks contract has incentives, but I bet these injuries and timelines would be completely different if they're contracts were dependent on amount of games played. Buxton will always be a half season type of player and Correa is moving in that direction too. If the Twins, a team with serious payroll limitations, are going to pay 50 million dollars per year on two part time players, it's going to be real tough to field a competitive team around them. You have to include Lewis in this discussion as well. Long story short, our three best players are essentially only going to be part time players because of injuries:(
  7. Looks like K Culpeper is the real deal. Small sample size sure, but he looks like he can really hit. Keirsey has gotten the shaft all year, he's done everything you're supposed to do to get a call up. I know Margot hits lefties well, but he's an absolute butcher in the field and he's going to be gone next year. Should have called up Keirsey earlier in the year to see if he could outperform Margot for the stretch run. But, we were paying Margot and God knows we can't have any sunk costs on this team, even at the expense of performance.
  8. He has a major problem with chasing pitches waaaay outside, then cannot catch up to the high fastball. Not every hit needs to be a home run. From what I've seen, when a guy starts getting hits the other way and up the middle, the home runs usually follow.
  9. I think they'll wait until roster expansion. Wish they'd just release Farmer, call up Lee and have him play instead of Julien. Then call up Winder and Varland for our exhausted pen. Wouldn't mind adding Keirsey and Eeles to the 40 man to cover for Buxton and Correa. I mean c'mon, does anybody believe they're even trying to play again this year? Buck was supposed to be out for the minimum, they even thought about just benching him a few days....now look. Our highest paid players are way to comfortable on the IL. This is why I always say these big contracts should be dependent on games played if not other incentives. Of course, it'll never happen. Guys want 20-30 million per year whether they play or not, because teams will keep signing these deals and hoping for the best...
  10. Jenkins finding his power is real nice to see. E Rodriguez coming back is a good sign. Hopefully with a normal off season he can come to Spring training healthy and dominate at AA if they start him there. A move up to AAA and a possible MLB debut could be in the cards for next year. This Beltre guy in DSL sure put up some numbers. Hopefully next year he can do it again stateside. Mercedes is no slouch either. We've got quite a bit of high and lower minors OF's playing well. I'm not so high on Gabriel Gonzalez, I think if we can we should use him in a package to try and get some pitching before his value drops any more. Next year should be fun as far as prospects and debuts go...
  11. I think they need to stick him at a position like 3rd base and keep him there. No moving him around, except for DH days. Then get him continuous playing time so he can get himself into a groove. All the days off here and there, talk about moving him around the diamond looks to be throwing him off, so simplify it. Go out there at 3rd and play everyday. He'll break out of it, as long as he's healthy. I also think this isn't just Lewis but a whole team problem, it seems like everyone is so pull happy. Nobody tries to go oppo anymore. I don't think I've seen a hit to right field all year from Buxton. Getting back to using the whole field usually sparks a good hot hitting stretch. Would be nice to have our best players on the field for the most important games of the year, but that's a whole other discussion.
  12. Nice to know I'm not the only Twins fan that thinks we're either in for no playoffs at all, or, sneaking in with the third wildcard spot but then quickly swept by HOU..... there's always next year;)
  13. Stewart and Topa are still under contract with pretty reasonable salaries, so they'll be back. Falvine needs to finish filling up the pen with competent arms though. If we have to rely on three guys all year again we'll be in trouble. Both Stewart and Topa are going to be coming off serious injuries and lost seasons, so ownership should not count on them to save us.
  14. This one is on Watkins. You can't start waving a guy in, then stop, then change your mind. I like Kepler, always have, but it's time to move on. When he hurt his knee I was actually hoping for an IL stint so we could possibly see Keirsey Jr. Unfortunately I think we'll just see more of Margot who is an absolute butcher in the OF. Next year should be Larnach in left, Buck in center, when he shows up, and Wallner in right. Martin and hopefully Keirsey as backups. I'd like it if the signed a quality OF in the off-season as well, because someone has to split CF with Buxton. We all know it,might as well plan for it.
  15. 2025 pen: Duran, Jax Alcala, Stewart, Sands Varland, Topa, Henriquez Maybe Funderburk or Winder 2-4 free agent signings. Definitely a lefty. Possibles at some point: Canterino, Prelipp, Morris, Raya Bouschly, Winder, Headrick. Any other minor league pitchers doing well.
  16. While I agree we shouldn't spend huge or long term money on relievers, that doesn't mean we don't need to spend SOME. I mean, if we're not spending on starters, what kind of pitching are you going to get. While a 10-15 million dollar per year relief arm is never going to happen, why not 3 different couple million dollar arms. Spread the money out a bit and build depth. But building almost an entire pen with cast offs, injury recovery guys, bargain bin release waiver wire types is not going to cut it. Sure, we got lucky once in awhile with someone like Brock Stewart, but most of the time you'll get as advertised. And we've seen what a waiver wire bullpen gets you this year. We've been too top heavy all year. 2-4 guys you can count on at the top, otherwise, everyone else is probably going to cost you games. This makes you overuse your top guys, they wear down. Get hurt or underperform. Now, I do think we could have a solid pen next year with just a small handful of additions
  17. Looks like Lee is healthy, can we swap him for Julien yet? I'd love to see Keirsey or Eeles get a shot, but this late in the year, I don't see it happening without some more injuries. Service time and all that. Headrick actually could help the MLB team this year though if he can get right. Theilbar is basically a DFA candidate but he's got a spot because he's our only lefty. Nice to see Jenkins hitting well, just too bad he only has what, like 3 homers all year? When are we going to hear something about Rodriguez or Canterino? Varland looked good, why are we wasting his arm in the minors when our bullpen is desperate for quality innings?
  18. Twins won't pay as everyone said already. Now, if he clears waivers, he couldn't be worse than Theilbar right?
  19. Part of this has to be on Rocco. Yes our bullpen sucks and is overworked so we have to get as many innings out of our starters as possible. But when a guy clearly is having an off day and getting absolutely crushed, leaving him out there to get rocked and basically throwing the game is not going to help with his or the teams confidence. I feel like there have been way too many games this year that Rocco has basically waived the white flag and given up on.
  20. Tonkin was decent with NY, hopefully we don't break him. Hilarious that our lone deadline acquisition lasted a month before being DFA'D. I really hope the Twins address the pitching staff in the off-season, but for real this time. They tried to bargain bin, minor league signing thing to fill out bullpen this year and look how that worked out. Reliever arms can usually be had for fairly cheap. If ownership cuts payroll again, some trades are going to be necessary. Pitching wins championships, and this year it's clear we don't have it. I doubt we'll see Correa or Buxton again this year which is another problem. For a team with payroll limitations, we can't be OK with our two top paid "superstars" only playing half a season every year.
  21. We sure are playing like a team that doesn't belong in any playoff discussions. With all our starters only going 4 or 5 innings our bullpen is going to have to pitch half the game. We don't have anywhere near the depth for that which means we're going to give up a lot of runs, meaning we'll probably have to out slug the other team to win. That doesn't seem likely with Lewis and Miranda slumping bad. I think Lee getting called up and replacing Julien at 2nd will help. I'm seriously starting to doubt if we'll see Correa or Buxton again this year. It's really a bad look that our "stars" can't seem to find the will to play during a tough playoff chase, but if we do make it, I'll guarantee you they'll be miraculously healed all of s sudden and ready to go in front of a national audience:( PS, call up Keirsey and dump Margot. Dump Farmer too, any replacement level AAA player will outperform him. Severino, Eeles, Castillo. Farmer has no business on a major league roster.
  22. Nice to see Rosario back. It'd be even better to get Emmanuel Rodriguez back, or even just an update on what the heck is going on with him. 3 months plus for a sprained thumb? Did they find something else while doing MRI's? If Lee is fully healthy I think they need to call him up to replace Julien immediately. Julien still strikes out looking way too much and is a defensive liability. As for Keirsey, I was hoping Kepler was going to the IL and we'd finally see him, but I think we have to give up hope of seeing him this yeAr. I just really hope they protect him this year because there's no way a team doesn't grab him from us. Even if he for some reason isn't part of our long term plan, with the numbers he's put up this year, you'd have to think we could get something of value in a trade for him. Or package him with someone else to get something back that we need. IE pitching, pitching and more pitching.
  23. Sure it'd be better for Festa to move to the pen the rest of the year. Of course that just leaves a hole in the rotation though. Glad they released Okert and Richards, but there are going to be a lot of innings to cover the rest of the way. Festa and Zebby only go 4 or 5 innings, not to mention the rest of our rotation looking like they're burning out. Our lack of pitching depth is going to be magnified big-time. Varland and Winder to the pen should help, maybe Morris. Either way the pen is going to be overworked and most guys are going to have to go multiple innings. I really hope they address the pitching staff in the off-season. And for real this time, not the bargain bin signings like this year. We all saw how that played out. Not a single RP signing has panned out.
  24. Larnach is a man on a mission. He looks like he wants to lock down the starting left field job for next year. I think if he is a full-time player next year and stays healthy, a .250/25 HR season would not be out of reach. Combine that with Wallner s power in right field and an occasional appearance from Buxton and we've got a decent hitting outfield. Both Larnach and Wallner have kept our lineup afloat recently with Correa and Buxton giving up on the year and Lewis and Miranda slumping hard
