    First off was Buxton. They had to sign the hometown kid or fans would have been real pissed. His injury issues were well known by then and we actually got him on a pretty team friendly deal. Then we had a bunch of young guys come up and perform pretty well. We were set up for a winning window so signing a star like Correa made sense. We played well his first year and we actually won a playoff series last year. What is hurting the team now is the decision to cut payroll and make our GM work around major constraints. Correa signed here with the understanding we had a good core and the money to fill out the roster and be competitive year after year. Ownership went back on that plan and now because of the payroll crunch, we have three players in Correa, Buxton and Lopez that are taking up most of the teams payroll and leaving nothing left to fill the many holes on our roster. Very sad. Even more frustrating because most of us know we are probably only a few pieces from being a legit playoff contender....

    The best solution would be to sign a power hitting first baseman to a couple year contract, but we know that's not happening. We have a few big leaguers who could fight for the job. At this point I have almost no faith in Kiriloff or Julien. That leaves Miranda, who is much better at third base. If Lewis can find his power stroke again and learn first base, it'd probably be the best for the team. We could have better defenders at third with Miranda or Lee and playing first would probably help Lewis stay healthier. As for minor leaguers, maybe see if Severino can hit up in the show, he's got the prototypical 1b power. Maybe Keaschal can play there if he's not needed at second base. Will be interesting to see who gets the job. My guess is it will be a competition in spring training between AK, Julien, Miranda and a few minor leaguers. Or ownership just says screw it and signs Alonso or Goldschmidt lol

    With Larnach in left and Wallner in right, and Buxton probably only playing half a season, our defense will surely suffer. Castro can play left occasionally which will help and I'm guessing it will be Keirsey or Martin backing up Buck. Keirsey at least will help defensively too. In the long run guys like Jenkins, Rosario and Rodriguez will all help our defense in the OF as well as speed on the base paths, but none of these guys are ready yet. It'd be nice if we could sign a RH OF to platoon our lefties and be Buxton insurance, but with our payroll I highly doubt it.

    Pitchers I would pick to help the 25 bullpen would be Paddack, if he's not traded or forced into the rotation due to early season injuries. Raya- good stuff,but doesn't have the stamina so far to pitch deep enough. Canterino and Prelipp. Both have strikeout stuff that would play out of our pen immediately IF they can ever stay healthy. We should have a decent pen. I'd go with Duran, Jax, Alcala, Sands Stewart, Topa, Varland Prelipp/Canterino and another LHRP Waiting in the wings/injury replacement can be: Headrick, Henriquez, Tonkin, Raya or any free agent we could pick up. To fill out our pen we need someone who can go more than one or two innings and we need one or two lefties. I think Theilbar is done, but if we can get him on a minor league deal,give him a look in spring training. Okert and Funderburk aren't the answer. Look to Headrick, Prelipp and free agency.

    If you're contemplating trading one of your most important players to get six million off the books, wow, it's just sad. I get that Willi's not some super star, but he played almost every single day, and played hard and with intensity. Who takes over his 150 games if he's gone? Martin? Helman? Eeles or Keaschal are the only two with promise, but neither has a single MLB at bat. I'd hate to lose Willi. We need more guys who play with heart energy and passion, not less.

    Thing is, if they do trade away all our highly paid players, nobody is going to watch or come to the games just to watch a bunch of minor league players get blown out every day which hurts the teams value. I think they're going to try to find a middle ground with getting payroll down as much as possible, without blowing up the team completely and hurting the overall value and allure of buying the team.

    I'm hoping for a bounce back season for Duran, but if he struggles, Jax would be an all-star closer. Just need to surround him with other good pitchers to get us to the ninth inning in the lead. Of course that means we would have to score runs too....

    The AL Central is no longer a joke. Twins need to get real and decide to try and actually win or start getting used to missing the playoffs.

    All this penny pinching is very sad. Your competitive window is usually before all your core players get expensive. Now would be the time to supplement, not tear down and start a rebuild or trade away assets BEFORE they get expensive. If ownership trades Lopez, the leader of our pitching staff, we are no longer a playoff team. Just because we have a lot of warm bodies SP in the high minors does NOT mean they are ready for the majors. Neither Festa or Mathews looked ready to hold down a full-time roster spot. I won't believe we have a surplus of pitching until I actually see more than a rotations worth of successful pitchers.

    How about Canterino? He sounds very similar to Prelipp. Insane stuff, but with injury and durability concerns. I say get both of them healthy, and try them out as relief pitchers. They both K about 40 percent of batters, if they can keep that up into the upper levels they could be legit late inning weapons for the big league club.

    Rosario could turn into a legit RH HR threat in our outfield if he can make enough contact and limit the strikeouts. I would have liked to see guys like Jenkins or Rodriguez making up all the at bats they lost this year by playing in the AFL,but I guess the plan is to rest them for the off-season and try to get them healthy for spring ball. It should be fun to watch with all these young guys coming up ready to make their debuts and try to find a role in the big leagues.

    Twins have needed a real everyday first baseman who can hit for a few years now. Sure, Goldy would be a nice pickup for a year, but my guess is he'll want more than a year and he'll be too expensive for the Twins. Remember, we still need a backup CF, bullpen arms, and a catcher if we can find a taker for Vasquez. My guess is they roll with Miranda AK and maybe give Severino a shot when the first two don't produce. A power hitting first baseman would be a huge boost to this lineup and might even propel us to AL central favorites. Alas, we won't have the payroll to pull the trigger. IF we did sign someone it'd probably be a one year deal for Santana or someone like Solano.

    Anything to make the game more accessible and affordable to all fans. Discount days, free trial TV plans. The more fans we can interest, the more money they'll make. And with the right kind of owner, that extra cash could be used to improve the on field product. I saw the earlier posts about Santander. The Twins need a first baseman and a boost to our offense. Can you imagine if we could snag a Santander, Vlad Jr or Alonso for first base? A lineup with Correa, Buxton, Lewis and a power hitting first baseman would be deadly. My guess though, they'll roll with Miranda, AK and maybe Julien to start, possibly trying out Severino eventually.

    I'd have thought all those Trevor Richards pitches that hit the ground five feet in front of the plate would have been top of the worst pitches of the year list. I sure hope we stay away from those types of pitchers this year, but it has become Falvey's bullpen plan. Find a handful of guys that are cheap. Either waived guys, huge injury risk or coming back from injury, or just coming off a horrible season and hoping we can turn them into a new pitcher. Look at how all the 2024 relief pitchers we went out and got turned out:(

    I sure hope at least a few of these so called prospects pan out. With no real money to sign free agents, it's going to be up to our minor league guys to fill the holes in our roster. I will say, it's hard not to be at least a little excited about some of these guys that are close to making their debuts. Eeles, Mccusker, Rodriguez, Keaschal, Keirsey and Severino. Maybe we get lucky, but most prospects aren't going to be stars, and relying almost solely on our young guys is a risky strategy. We'll see how 25 plays out. I'm guessing we see a lot of player debuts.

    Twins just need a solid lefty or two and some mid level guys that can effectively eat a few innings at a time. With Duran, Jax, Sands, Stewart and Alcala at the back end, we should be ok. Just need to find a way to keep our A team healthy. Hoping for bounce back seasons from Topa, Stewart and others is a lot of what ifs, Falvey is going to have to go out and get some depth. Relievers are cheaper than starting pitching so maybe if we can build an elite pen like CLE this year, it'll take some of the load off of not having the best rotation in the league.

    They've got to find a way to get more games out of all our "star guys". It'll never happen unfortunately, but can you imagine the numbers these guys could put up if they were to play 150 games? Every year is the same story. So much potential in this group IF we can keep everyone healthy.

    Maybe we get super lucky and get an owner who wants to actually win and not ONLY run the team as a profit making business..... we'll see, maybe this is all just hypothetical at this point. Someone has to actually want to buy this team first.

    Jax and Alcala's slider are wicked pitches. If Alcala could come up with a fourth pitch like Jax he could be one of our best relievers next year. I think we have the makings of a solid pen with... Duran, Jax, Sands Alcala, Stewart Topa, Varland, Henriquez Moran/Headrick/Funderburk and one or two FA Build a top notch bullpen like CLE this year and it'll take some pressure off our rotation, which should be... Lopez, Ober, Ryan SWR, Paddack/FA Festa, Mathews and Morris in AAA. But I'm betting they just go with Festa at number 5, if they can dump Paddack and his 7.5 million dollars.

    You can never have too much pitching. Twins will need depth as injuries pile up. If we can trade him for any kind of pitching prospects and or salary relief, we need to use that money on pitching anyways. He's probably more valuable to us in the bullpen than a starter, but 7.5 million is too much to pay for a reliever.

    Sure, Rocco wasn't given much to work with this year,but it sure did not seem like he got the best out of the guys we had. If almost the whole team slumps for that long and has career worst marks in certain categories, some of that has to fall on the coaching.

    I think if they can get anything back for him in a trade that would truly help us this year then go for it. Otherwise, IF he is actually healthy,give him one more chance to prove he can hit enough to be an everyday player. It would really hurt to release him for nothing and then he instantly turns into another Brent Rooker. We're not signing a new first baseman, so he just has to hit as well or better than Miranda and Julien, maybe Severino in order to have at least a platoon first baseman job. I'd say maybe he could do, but Rocco doesn't use an everyday DH so he'll need to be able to play the field most days.

    I think Castro could be traded since they can replace his utility status with a cheaper Austin Martin. Kiriloff I think is done for,but they might give him one last chance this year if he's healthy. Duran and Topa are no trainers, we need all the pitching we can get.
