  1. I believe he does have an option left which is valuable. I've got to believe because of his draft pedigree, youngish age and years of control, he could be the second piece of a trade possibly. I like Miranda better, but don't think he should be our everyday first baseman. I am intrigued by Severino's power, but think he'll strike out too much. We need a first baseman in free agency, if we're going to try and compete this year
  2. I think if any of our outfielders need to be traded it'll be Larnach, if only because we have way to many left handed corner outfield types. I do hope we keep him though. I could totally see him turning into a Brent Rooker with another team...
  3. Jenkins, while promising, is still a ways away. He only played a couple games at AA last year. My guess is he'll spend most of the year there, maybe with a promotion to st Paul later in the year if he's crushing it. He did only hit what like 5 home runs last year though? Rodriguez has the best chance of an impact since he reached AAA. My guess is he starts the year there and either due to playing well or more likely injury, we may see him by mid to late season. Keaschal could go either way. I could see the injury lingering and then a sophomore slump which keeps him in AAA or AAA all year. Or he could show up healthy in spring and compete for an IF job. If Castro is traded they will definitely need either him or Eeles to make the team as a backup IF to Lee and Julien.
  4. I think we could have a solid pen in '25 IF we are healthy. Duran, Jax, Sands Alcala, Stewart, Topa, Varland Henriquez, Paddack, and hopefully a lefty free agent Add in the possibility of a Canterino, Headrick, Moran or Prelipp and we could be ok. As we all know though, Injuries happen and we need quality arms ready to step up.
  5. I always liked Kepler, but it's time to move on. We've got lots of OF prospects making their way up the ladder. Jenkins, Rosario, Rodriguez, Mccusker, Eeles, Keaschal, Martin, Keirsey.... I will say we will miss Kepler's defense in RF. Wallner has a cannon, but nowhere near the range or experience Kepler brought.
  6. Nice to see Rosario hitting. Lots of singles though, some more power would be nice. Of course he's still young though. If his defense is at least average I can see him playing in St Paul this year. Twins could use some RH outfielders. We'll always need a backup center fielder as Buxton insurance.
  7. I also think Rocco needs to give our pitchers clear cut roles. That way they can be prepared and know when they're going to be needed. I've got to believe the consistency will improve performance. I'd love it if we could get Chapman. He still strikes out a ton of guys and having him hurl heaters from the left side is a look our pen hasn't had in awhile. As for starters, I think we should go after Mathew Boyd. He proved he was healthy through the end of the season and pitched well in the playoffs. He's a lefty starter which we also haven't had in awhile and he should be within our price range. Another positive is we wouldn't have to instantly rely on Festa or Mathews, they could start the year in AAA, finish their development and find a groove before their next call-ups.
  8. Graterol looked like a future elite closer but while he does still throw hard, he doesn't have very good strikeout numbers. Plus he's always hurt.
  9. While I'm glad we finally have some intriguing pitching depth coming up, both Morris and Raya haven't even really pitched much or found success above AA and Prelipp hasn't pitched above high A. I think all these guys have a chance to help the team event, but we shouldn't get ahead of ourselves and rush these guys before they're ready. Looked what happened with Mathews. He never should have been called up after starting the year in A ball. I think Mathews, Raya and Morris need to show consistency and results in St Paul before relying on them in the majors. I think if Prelipp is going to be a reliever, he's got a chance at moving up faster than the other guys. Both him and Canterino could be the bullpen weapons we need to fill out the rest of our pen.
  10. I think the Twins should tell him he's an outfielder now. Start the season in AAA and play everyday in left and center field. If he can improve his defense with more innings played, it would be a huge step towards earning that very important fourth outfielder job. Offensively, we know he has limited power, so they shouldn't have him swinging for the fences. Try to have him for the Arraez mold. Hit for singles and doubles, and then use his speed to steal bases. If he could hit .250+ and start stealing bases at a good clip while playing avg to above avg defense, he should be at least a good 4rth outfielder until Rosario and Rodriguez are ready to play out there.
  11. Signing one, maybe two reclamation or Injury return projects is ok. But when that is all you do and are actually relying on these projects to be THE guys in your pen, you're setting yourself up for disaster. If we are going the free agent route, then we need to get in there and grab our targets before everyone is snatched up. It seems we wait until the last minute every year, then say we had to grab dollar store arms because that's all that was available. I think we need to sign a veteran lefty at a minimum. As for the other spots, maybe give some of our AAA or AA starters a shot at a bullpen spot to make their debuts. We're going to have to get creative with seemingly no money available to upgrade the team.
  12. I liked what I saw of Festa. Of all our supposed starting pitchers fighting for starts, Festa seemed like the only one ready for big league innings, other than SWR. Guys like Mathews, Morris, Raya and Lewis all need to find success in St Paul before being rushed to the big leagues. If Festa can become more efficient and get deeper into ballgames, he should be a good starter for us for years to come. If he can't, worst case scenario, he let's it fly in the pen and becomes a late inning weapon.
  13. We need to hold onto Miranda. For one, he's shown the ability to be one of our better hitters. Two, he's as cheap as can be. If we are looking to trade someone to get some salary relief to fix other areas of the roster, you don't trade a cheap player like Miranda who is controlled for years to come. Three, he's the only legit 1st baseman on the roster. Plus, our other infielders are going to be hurt at some point, meaning there will be plenty of innings at first base and probably third base for Miranda to cover.
  14. Castro won't be let go for nothing. He has good value to plenty of teams, we should be able to get maybe a good relief pitcher and possibly some salary relief out of him. Problem is, we don't have a solid Castro replacement. Martin can play the OF and 2nd base, but unless he takes a major step forward this year, he's a borderline dfa guy. Maybe Keaschal or Eeles? I'd say they've got the best chance at becoming our utility guy, if they can continue the success they had last year at AAA and immediately produce in the bigs. Will be an interesting off season.
  15. If he can get season long consistency from most of our hitters, we'll throw the guy a parade. Guys got his work cut out for him that's for sure.
  16. I've got to believe there will be a defensive minded Drew Butera like catcher available for much less than the 10 million we're paying Vasquez. I'd keep Jeffers, only because even if we do hold on to Vasquez, this is his last year with us. Moving 10 million off the payroll could buy a few bullpen arms we desperately need.
  17. Vasquez, Paddack and maybe Castro are all going to be trade possibilities I think. Castro probably has the most value. Problem is, Vasquez would be the best contract to get off our books at 10 million, but we don't have a backup catcher that's ready. I think any of our potential Castro replacements are a big step down too. Martin, maybe Eeles or Keaschal? I think we have decent in house replacements for Paddack, maybe we can get a good lefty reliever for him?
  18. I like Castro and hope we keep him. He might not be the best option as the primary backup SS or CF, but he's solid at every other position he plays. As we all know, injury insurance is always going to be needed on this weak and brittle team of ours. That said, Twins are broke and need salary relief so I wouldn't be surprised if he's traded. Unless he's moved along with someone else though, would 6 million really be enough to upgrade the team in any meaningful way? Who would replace Castro's innings then? Martin? Keaschal, Eeles? If one of these guys could step up and be a quality utility guy I could stomach trading Castro, but until they actually do, I don't think getting rid of our teams mvp will help our offense or defense. Unless by adding in Castro, a team will take Vasquez' salary. 16 million would give us some options. Then again though, we'd need to sign d backup catcher and utility guy.....will be interesting to see how Falvey works this off-season. Knowing him and the state of the team, I'm not expecting much. Maybe one trade and a couple bargain bin relief pitchers coming off of injury.
  19. I don't like it. He's too valuable to our bullpen, probably our best RP. He could end up busting as a starter and then not be as good once moved back to the pen. Too risky, we have plenty of other young starters in the high minors looking for starting pitcher roles.
  20. I like moving Lewis to 1st base. His bat will play there, if he finds his power stroke again, and maybe it'll keep him healthier. I like Lee at 2nd with Julien as backup. SS is Correa with Lee backing him up. Miranda can play third, with Castro and Keaschal backing up everyone. Outfield will be Larnach Buxton and Wallner. We do need a solid RH OF. Maybe Martin takes a step forward but I'm not too high on him. Rosario and Rodriguez look good but they won't be ready for awhile,so I think we need to sign aFA RH OF. Keirsey could be Buxton insurance too. We should in no way trade any of our SP. Sure, we have depth finally, but none have proved anything yet and with an injury to any of our top three we would be right back to relying on Festa and Mathews again who are not ready. I say keep the starters we have and beef up the pen as much as possible.
  21. Who's to say new owners will spend more? It's just as likely they are even cheaper than the Pohlad's and are buying the team as a business investment rather than to win. I sure hope this isn't the case, Twins fans have suffered enough.
  22. The difference between the Twins and the Guardians imo is that the Guards get the most out of each and every player. They play with passion and fire, where as the Twins look like they are asleep out there half the time and losing games just becomes business as usual. Big difference in management between the two teams.
  23. I wonder if the Twins ' obsession with positional flexibility actually ends up hurting some players development. Instead of letting them learn one or two positions and then get better at them, they have these young guys trying to learn five different positions. I've got to believe it makes it a lot harder on these kids to focus on their hitting, when they have to learn a million different positions instead of getting the consistency of the same one or two positions every day.
