Maybe he just needs a break in AAA for awhile. If he can rest up and come back for the playoffs ready and willing then I'm fine with it. The flip side is, we need to GET to the playoffs first. Do we think the bullpen is up to the task without him? I kind of doubt it ....

Since the all-star break, Pablo has been pitching like a true ace. If I remember right, he was kind of the same last year. We've been really lucky with him. We need to make sure we keep him healthy and happy. Adding a number two SP should be the off-seasons biggest priority. Even someone on a one or two year deal, just to give Festa, Zebby and the others enough time to finish their development. That way they can force their way into the big league team by performance, not get called up because of injuries and lack of depth. Zebby was rushed this year and it shows. Without Pablo, we wouldn't even be close to making the playoffs.
-
I'm guessing they use him as a biggy back starter and bring him in after Festa, Zebby and Sim pitch their three innings, or once through the order. Irvin doesn't inspire much confidence looking at his numbers, even if we are desperate for lefties. This is what happens when you don't fortify the pitching staff at the deadline. Everyone is worn out, pitching on fumes and getting rocked with no depth or help to bring in except other teams cast offs. I really hope they take a lesson from this year and don't try to budget win their way to a winning season again next year too. We're going to need a legit SP and a few bullpen additions including at least one good reliable lefty. After that we need a first baseman and maybe a RH outfielder. Maybe go ahead and trade from our stock of minor league infielders to get pitching help if we can't afford anything in free agency, (which is total BS). With Farmer, Margot, Theilbar and Santana coming off the books, we should have the money we need to make the improvements we need. Pitching and depth will get you to the playoffs like in 23. Learn from this years mistakes, building a team for as cheap as possible is not a plan, it's a slap in the face to the very fans ownership is trying to grow....

I think Lewis should be higher up on our prospects list than Raya. Lewis has had a much better season and looks more like a legit starter. Raya has good stuff but poor control. Plus, until he's able to consistently pitch deeper into games I think he may end up in the bullpen eventually. Either way, we've got more pitching depth than we've had for a long time and I'm excited to see who all pans out. I really hope we sign a good SP next year so Festa and Zebby can finish their development in AAA. Then we got Morris, Lewis, Raya, Culpeper, maybe Canterino if his arm hasn't fallen off by now. Prelipp a little farther down. Will be fun to follow these guys, just hope none of them are rushed to to injuries like Zebby this year
-
It's ready sad that our bullpen has no depth at all because guys like Duran Jax and Alcala usually thrive in Max effort one inning stints. When they get asked to sit down and come back out for another inning, things tend to go bad. Rocco needs to know his guys and understand who is up for the challenge of multiple innings. Of course none of this matters if we can't score any runs. Buxton and Correa look pretty dialed in already which should help. I just don't get this two year long problem of hitting with RISP. We've got to be one of the worst in the league. You can't leave 10+ guys on base per game while your offense is struggling. Boys better figure it out ASAP otherwise we'll be watching the damn Tigers in the wildcard which would be an embarrassment.

I am one of the lucky ones. I love out of state, so I am able to watch all Twins games on the MLB package. Plus, the package is free to anyone with T Mobile cell service. But all my family in MN couldn't watch them this year, until they got cable again for 200/month. If Twins want a bigger audience and revenue, it's pretty basic that everyone needs easy access to the games. And to improve attendance, you have to field a good team. Who wants to pay 100$ a ticket to watch a AAA team like we were fielding for awhile?
-
Dumb move. Sure, he's struggled lately, but he pitched a perfect two innings last weekend while hitting 101 mph. I'd still rather see him out there than Tonkin or Theilbar. I get that he's coming off injury, but then why does Rocco always have him throwing two innings when he excels in Max effort one inning stints. If we make the playoffs, Im guessing he'll be back since Irvin isn't eligible for postseason. I'm guessing they just claimed him as a long reliever to pitch after Zebby Festa and Sim only go 3 or 4 innings.

A few moves the twins could make in the off season
LambchoP commented on C-Gangster's blog entry in March To October
I doubt the Twins will have the payroll for either of these guys, as much as I'd love to see it. I think our biggest need would be a solid SP to pair with Pablo at the top of our rotation. We also need at least one reliable lefty for our bullpen to replace Theilbar. As for the offense, I do think there are a few ways we could upgrade our OF. But with so many young outfielders coming up soon, I think our biggest need is at first base. We should look for a true slugger to man first and hit in the middle of our lineup. Someone like Alonso or Vlad. Give them 20-25 million per year for a 4-5 year deal with opt outs after 2. If we can't afford someone like that, I wouldn't mind giving Santana another year. He's been spectacular for us this year and sure looks like he's got plenty left in the tank. -
It's pretty sad that both Buxton and Correa needed the day off after only playing 4 innings on Saturday. If they are going to take up a roster spot then they need to be out there. Aside from Lopez and Ober, our starters have to find a way to go deeper than three innings. Having 3 of our SP basically throwing like openers completely wiped out our bullpen for the rest of the series. I really hope we put Paddack in the bullpen and sign a SP for next year. That puts Festa in AAA as first man up. Zebby needs more time in the minors clearly. He started the year in A ball. These guys were forced the the show because of ownerships lack of moves in both the off-season and deadline. Very important week, get hot and get into the playoffs where anything can happen. Don't just roll over and blow it!

I think Eeles, McCusker and if healthy, E Rodriguez will all factor into the major leagues at some point next year. Lower down the pipeline, Jenkins and Culpeper could be moving up fast if they continue hitting and pitching so we'll. Will be fun to see how many of these young guys pan out as big leaguers. They're crushing it in the minors, just need to take that last final step to the show. I just hope all this supposed depth isn't used as an excuse for not signing anyone of value in the off-season. Big league club needs pitching help. One starter and at least one legit lefty for the pen. Wouldn't mind Santana coming back to man first base either, if we can't get anyone better.

Week in Review: Running Out the Clock
LambchoP replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Real important week. Our starters that aren't names Lopez and Ober are going to have to find a way to pitch deeper than 3 or 4 innings. Our bullpen simply cannot handle pitching over half the game day after day. For our lineup, Buxton and Correa are going to have to suck it up and get out on the field. Having them on the roster is only going to hurt the team if they only play 1 out of every 3 days. We need them out there as much as possible. As much for their defense as their bats. This team needs some kind of spark, this is the week to find it. Go twins, don't blow it!- 13 replies

They are not being used optimally if they aren't being used lol. Seriously, Correa needed a day off after only playing four innings the day before? It really is sad we have to baby our top paid players seemingly every year. Look at Larnach. Clearly he's playing hurt, but he's still out there hitting every day, doing whatever he can for the team. We need more guys with that kind of drive and heart. Not super rich guys who decide they need months off Everytime they wake up a little sore....
-
I think the results of both series are going to depend on how well our bullpen is managed and how well they pitch. Over the last few weeks it seems the only starting pitchers that are going more than 3 or 4 innings are Lopez and Ober. That means each start by Zebby, SWR and Festa is basically a bullpen game, which really wipes out a lot of relievers for the rest of the series. It's nice Buxton and Correa are back, but if they are only going to play 1 out of every 3 games or so, can we really expect them to save our lineup? Kepler coming back instills even less confidence the way he's been hitting this year. If we sneak in as the third wild card, I'm expecting an embarrassing blowout sweep against HOU.

Did Bender actually think this was Ok and nobody would find out? Even if he was never caught by the coaches, dude would have to be the most hated player on the team. Poor way to start out your professional career pulling that crap because you "want to go home". Glad we dumped this guy, not someone we want in our system. Sucks we wasted a pick on him though...

How Carlos Correa has stacked up against the rest of 2023's free agent shortstop class
LambchoP commented on singlesoverwalks's blog entry in Saul Krachinski
Until he ever plays a full season and helps get us deep into the postseason, I'm saying he's being overpaid. 37 million next year? We could get two decent starting pitchers for that kind of money! -
Roy Smalley has to be the worst announcer I've ever heard on a live broadcast. The dude makes completing a full sentence sound harder than rocket science .... I like Provus a lot, but I still find myself missing the legend of Dick Bremer. That guy truly got screwed. He seemed like the type of guy that would broadcast until the day he died, because he loved what he did, and it showed

This team doesn't deserve a playoff berth. Not the way we're playing now. If we sneak in as a wildcard, unless we can turn things around big-time, I'm predicting an embarrassing 2 game sweep blowout...

Keirsey deserved a longer look, but roster crunches happen. If he's not traded, I'm sure we'll see him at some point next year. It is crazy that all our OFers are left handed. Wallner, Larnach, Keirsey, Kepler, Rodriguez, Jenkins....do we look for a RH bats to stick out there, or is Martin going to be our righty outfielder along with Mr. Glass?

Twins 4, Reds 8: Elly De La Cruz Grand Slam Sinks Twins
LambchoP replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
You've got to wonder, is Alcala hurt or something? When he goes from one of the best relievers in the league in the first half to basically un pitchable the last month, something's going on and they need to figure it out quick. Jax and Duran can not pitch every single game. The offense needs to wake up too. These are not good pitchers that we are facing, but Twins lineup is making them all look like cu young candidates. Hopefully with Buxton and Correa back they can inject some life into this team, which seriously looks like it's running on fumes and playing on auto pilot.- 38 replies

And it sure looks like Funderburk isn't going to get a call up and be our lefty reliever for the playoffs. He's been dreadful since coming off the IL. With him getting shelled in AAA along with Okert, looks like we're stuck with Theilbar the rest of the season. I really hope they can sign at least two solid lefties for our pen next year. Theilbar will be gone and Okert and Funderburk inspire zero confidence. Aroldis Chapman shouldn't be too expensive after a down year this year ....

Raya will for sure be added to the 40 man this off-season. Even if I believe his prospect ranking is a little high. Guys got great stuff, but pretty horrible command. He walks 2-4 guys each outing. He's also only gone five innings or more 5 times all year. Maybe next year everything clicks and he can hone in his stuff, but right now he looks like a future bullpen piece, which can still be valuable. Good for Jenkins getting his first AA hit. Does he start there out of the gate next year? Think it depends how he fares the rest of the season. He sure does walk a lot, hopefully he doesn't turn into a Julien and watch strike three go by 4 times a night lol. I think he'll be fine. Imagine an OF of Buxton, Jenkins, Wallner, Rodriguez. Not to mention Larnach, Mccusker, Keirsey, Martin, Castro. They're building quite the position players depth for OF and in the IF. Hopefully that means the few pennies they'll have to spend can be used on pitching. We could use one solid SP and two or three good relief arms, preferably two lefties.

Kind of surprised Keirsey is the one getting sent down for Correa. I thought they kept him on the team as CF insurance for Buxton. Not to mention solid late game defensive replacement and speedy pinch runner. Probably would have made more sense to send Julien down with our ever growing list of infielders, but we'll see how it plays out. I'd have rather Margot just stayed injured and give his spot to Keirsey. Hopefully having all three of Buxton Lewis and Correa together can spark some life into this lineup. Those three plus Wallner and Miranda all hitting the same day, starts to look like a scary lineup if everyones going right.
-
Trust him because he is our closer. Now and the foreseeable future. His K rate has been steadily increasing all year. Same with his velocity. I think the further he gets from his oblique injury, the harder he'll throw. I mean he's still hitting 102, hard to complain about that. Main reason, he's 23/25 in save opportunities. Duran is fine and will be a treat to watch for years to come. As long as we don't do something dumb and trade him. Having him and Jax at the back of our bullpen really shortens the game for us
