  1. It's been great seeing our young pitching prospects debut and finding success, but relying on rookies for 3/5ths of our rotation in a playoff chase is definitely a huge risk and not an ideal situation. Twins blew it at the deadline and now we're going to have to roll with what we got. Hopefully Paddack can come back and help out in the bullpen at least. I'd also like to see Varland finally converted to a relief pitcher, but with our starting depth being tested so much, I don't see that happening until maybe next year.
  2. Nice to see our top pitching prospects finding success. SWR, Festa and Zebby all having various degrees of success at the top levels, and it looks like Morris is right behind them. If these guys can continue their development and stay healthy, we should have some solid SP depth for years to come. Then we can move Varland and possibly Paddack to the bullpen where they could be a big weapon like they were late last year. As for rotation next year I'm hoping for: Lopez Ryan Ober SWR New free agent. Only worthwhile if they are a 1-2 type pitcher. We have plenty of 4-5's. Festa/Zebby/Morris Raya, Lewis waiting in the wings Varland, Paddack and hopefully Canterino to the bullpen
  3. Is this satire? What turn around? Far as I'm concerned he's totally and completely cooked. I mean, would anyone here seriously like to see him come into a close game in the late innings? I have to imagine he would have been DFA'D after the deadline on any other playoff hopeful team. You can't expect your number one lefty to get important outs when he has an ERA over 6 and gives up homers like crazy. Okert hasn't been much better, so sad to say we're stuck with him the rest of the year. But I've got to imagine he'll get nothing more than a minor league offer if anything in the off-season. My guess is, he'll retire.
  4. When your team is in a playoff chase, you don't sign a 44 year old who throws maybe 88 mph and will give up more runs than strikeouts. What we needed was a Kikuchi, Flaherty or any other capable starter. Relying on three rookies in our rotation is already super risky, but I just don't see Hill pitching any better than Zebby or Festa. I'd rather see them sign some bullpen help if we can get anyone serviceable off the waiver wire, especially a left handed reliever. We can still pick up waiver claims right?
  5. Maybe Twins fans can start a go fund me page to raise money for off season acquisitions lol. Going to need a starter, two lefties for the bullpen and an outfielder to replace Kepler. A power hitting first baseman wouldn't hurt either...
  6. Looks like the Twins finally have a solid pitching pipeline. Festa, SWR, Zebby, Morris at the high levels. Then lower down we have Raya, Lewis, Culpeper. Just need to figure out how to keep these guys healthy and not rush their development and we could be in a good spot pitching wise. Still going to need to pick up at least some free agents, as this year proves. Depth is key and we are now paying the price for not having that depth. Lineup should be good for years to come if we can ever get and keep everyone healthy and in the lineup together. I'm a bit worried about catcher though. Next year will be Vasquez's last, and Camargo does not look like the solution. I believe we only have Jeffers another two years? Might need to try and sign a solid catcher, someone who can handle a young, inexperienced pitching staff like we will probably have.
  7. Buxton is likely going on the IL for a few weeks. Wouldn't be surprised to hear the same about Miranda. Once again, all our stars are hurt. Why can we NEVER get a lineup with Correa, Buxton, Lewis and Miranda in it together. If they could all just stay healthy that's a formidable lineup. I wish we'd call up Keirsey as a true center fielders to replace Buxton. He's not on the 40 man though, so I'm guessing we're going to see Margot and Austin Martin:( too bad Emmanuel Rodriguez has been hurt all this time
  8. Excited to watch Zebby debut tonight, good luck kid. I'm guessing Morris will get the call up to AAA to take Zebbys spot in the St Paul rotation? Between Festa, Zebby, Morris and SWR, the twins finally have some solid young pitchers. I just hope this depth doesn't deter them from going out in the off-season and raising our ceiling a bit. Too bad there's been no updates on Canterino, he could have been in this list too if he can ever stay healthy. The 40 man list here on TD has him listed as in the minors, not on the IL. He could be a future closer or set up type guy with his stuff.
  9. Imagine, our two leadoff hitters being either Vasquez or Margot. Now that will strike fear into opposing pitchers!
  10. DFA Farmer or Theilbar would be the smart move. With our lack of warm bodies both on the field and in the bullpen, I highly doubt either of these guys are going anywhere. I'm guessing we're going to see a bit of musical chairs in the back of our bullpen with Winder, Blewitt, Dobnak, maybe Bouschly or Henriquez. Whoever the fresh arm is and who still has options. Not sure what to think about our deadline acquisition yet, Richards? Had that horrible outing where he walked five guys and hit two batters, but then looked great last night. Is he a pure rental? I think if the Twins could help him develop a third pitch he could be pretty useful.
  11. Uh, no. Sure, he's been a better hitter the last month or so. You don't have the slowest guy on the team hit leadoff. I like Castro as our leadoff guy. Basically our only stolen base threat on the team. Although speedy chubby Vasquez has what, 3 stolen bases this year?!
  12. And our patchwork rotation and especially our bullpen, which is held together with spit and glue, is most likely going to cost us some games late. Theilbar has an ERA over 6 and would've been DFA'd by just about any other contending team months ago. But, since he's a lefty with a contract, he's safe on the Twins:(. Hopefully Okert can figure something out and take the number one lefty spot. Winder and Sands have surprised me. We just need to somehow keep Duran, Jax and Alcala healthy the rest of the way, because we are going to be relying on them big time.
  13. With Miranda struggling so badly I'm watching for the article stating he's on the IL again. Been hurt since his activation, hence the poor results. Same could be said for Austin Martin. Hopefully that doesn't happen, we can't afford to lose anyone else. We need Correa back. Was supposed to be a two week absence and now we're over a month later. Missed two important series with CLE and KC....I gotta believe he could've helped us win at least one of those CLE games .
  14. I hope you're right. A productive Zebby would be a good send for our patchwork rotation. I wish there was some kind of update on Canterino. I really thought this could have been his breakout year. Because of his injury history, he could have been moved to the bullpen where he could have been a real weapon. I feel the same about Varland too, we saw what he can do in relief last year down the stretch. With SP depth so thin though I think anyone who's been built up to start will remain a starter.
  15. Nice to see Julien with that hit streak going. I wonder what his K numbers have been like, as that was his problem in the majors seemingly all year, staring at strike three at bat after at bat. If he could get hot it'd be a nice boost for our middle infield. Austin Martin has been serviceable defensively, but hasn't shown much at the plate. Hopefully Correa gets his butt back out there soon. Castro is not a SS and Farmer should have been DFA'd months ago. Nice to see some early success from K Culpeper. Maybe we can grow him into a solid power hitter down the road...
  16. Festa, Zebby and Morris should probably all be at AAA throughout the end of the year. Because of injuries and lack of deadline or off-season moves, we're going to be forced to rely on these guys before they're fully ready. We've already seen how it hasn't really worked out either Festa in his few starts. Hopefully Mathews takes the opportunity and runs with it, but I'm preparing myself for some serious growing pains. Not the ideal scenario while in a playoff chase ..
  17. Call me old fashioned, but I tend to not care too much about EXPECTED stats or PROBABLE numbers. I care about actual numbers for what a guy has actually done. I get that some of our main guys have been hurt and on the IL. But when playing a very important game against someone like CLE, there is no reason to sit Royce Lewis on the bench and hit Margot leadoff! That is just bad management by Rocco. I also understand the need for occasional off days to keep guys healthy, but how many times have we seen Buxton AND Lewis sitting the same day? I won't even get into his bullpen management, putting Theilbar in to lose games. Does Rocco want to win, or has the mob paid him to purposely miss the playoffs?
  18. Excited to see Zebby of course, but also a bit worried. He started the year in A ball. He was dominant in A and AA, but has gotten hit a bit harder in his 4 AAA starts. Calling up guys before they are ready, ala Festa, can sometimes hurt their confidence and ultimately their development. Hopefully Mathews takes the opportunity and runs with it. Twins are desperate for quality innings at this point...
  19. Remember when ownership said if we approved the new stadium then in return they would raise payroll and spend more on the team and players lol? It's like they think since they went big and signed Correa, they're in the clear, and don't have to spend big again for another ten years:(
  20. All these injuries just a few short weeks after the Twins did absolutely nothing to add depth to an already thin pitching staff. Chances are Ryan, Paddack, StewArt and Topa are done for the year. This means we're going to have to lean heavily on a lot of unproven rookies. Not ideal for a playoff chase:( hopefully Correa gets back soon. If we can get and keep our lineup healthy, maybe they catch fire and we can slug our way out of any poor pitching performances that are surely coming.
  21. I think we might be seeing Zebby soon. While exciting, calling up guys too early when they're not ready can hurt they're confidence and development....
  22. SWR has been a good send and underrated all year. I thought he was burning out a bit after his last two starts, but he looked great yesterday even hitting 96mph. I am worried about our bullpen. Especially with Stewart and probably Topa being done for the year. Winder has looked better recently, but other than Duran, Jax, Alcala and maybe Sands, I wouldn't trust any of those guys in close games. Our depth is going to be seriously tested the rest of the way. Varland to the pen could help. Canterino would be good too, but haven't seen any updates all year. Zebby has been hit hard in AAA, calling him up too early could hurt his development, but who do we turn to then? Rich Hill?
  23. I would also love an update on Canterino. It's been all year now with no updates. Also, what's up with Emmanuel Rodriguez? Got hurt again June 6th. That's almost two months ago and still no updates?
  24. I think SWR has been very underrated all year long. Without him stepping up this year our rotation would be bad. Good test for Festa today. Just hope to see all our big bats in the lineup. Imo it was dumb to have Royce on the bench yesterday in a very important series. With the injury bug hitting hard lately with Ryan, Stewart, Topa, Lee and Correa, our depth is sure being tested, especially pitching. Do we trust Varland to make anymore starts? I sure don't, I think he'd be a good bullpen upgrade though. Of course that means relying on someone like Zebby for some starts before he's probably ready...
